“Stuck in a high place” used to be my worst recurring nightmare. I’d get it in lucid dreams and wake up yelling out loud. At some point I decided that the next time I had that nightmare, I’d make myself jump. And it worked. I had one or maybe two “high place” nightmares where I jumped. So it IS real! I wonder how long they had to wait and/or keep re-scheduling the shoot until the wind was tolerable. As a former structural Ironworker (Local 433) , I frequently had gusts come out of nowhere when on high-rises- without rhyme or reason, and always had to be VERY cautious and prepared for it.
I couldn’t tell from the video, but I’d bet big bucks that woman had at least one parachute strapped on her hide.
And I agree with Annie Rose- those POS bastards have zero regard for anything other than “Allah,” power, and money. I remember seeing an article (maybe last year) about how the UAE decided to “adjust” and “revise” a big pile of their “building codes” to save money, streamline building approvals, get more tourism, etc., etc…

My better half is a fire protection and safety engineer and has spent a career working with developers, most of who would sell out their own mother if they could make a buck, and who endlessly complain about building to national fire and building codes. He was often maligned and sometimes threatened by politicians with his job for just doing the right thing and making them build to code, and that’s just in our little town in the burbs.
His friends in other towns across the country went through the same thing. He showed me articles in his professional journals explaining that these buildings in the Middle East (and elsewhere, like China and Singapore) are thrown up so quickly without any regard for standard safety codes, that they are virtual chimneys just waiting to go up. And they sadly do. The deaths and injuries are covered up. There is no way people came away from these fires unharmed as is reported. Many of those buildings have a type of highly polished, reflective glass coating on the outside of the windows that evidently acts as a magnifying glass and spontaneously combusts when the sun hits it at just the right angle for the right length of time.
You would be shocked and maddened at what goes on between developers and politicians to get buildings constructed. Fire and building officials are often ignored. Why? Because buildings are cheaper to construct when they don’t have to put in sprinklers, fire walls, the required number of exits, fire retardant materials, and space for fire engines to be able to reach the building with the wet stuff. Shady developers could care less if a building burns down-more work for them when it has to be rebuilt. They build and move on. They don’t live or work in those buildings or communities, so a tragedy won’t impact them. It will simply be listed as an unfortunate accident.

Speaking of shady building practices, we only need to look at the recent building collapse in Miami to see indifference and corruption at work in our own country. Everyone from the politicians to the developers, to those who lived there and were fully aware that the building had very serious structural issues but didn’t want to pay for repairs, knew what could happen. They gambled and lost. There are people who should spend time in jail for murder.

It’s a fairly unnerving fact that the safety and habitability of any building is usually dependent on a Building Inspector and his dedication and skills.
Right off the bat, I can recall at least a couple dozen times during my Contracting career when a set of plans came back to me “wet stamped” (approved) that had dimensional or structural mistakes in them, and had to be corrected and re-submitted. Some were minor, some were major.
I also recall dealing with a few Building Inspectors (mostly in L.A.) who were senseless and clueless. One in Orange County admitted that he “couldn’t read blueprints too good,” and that his bro-in-law was on the City Planning Commission. Scary.
After the ’94 quake in L.A., several buildings that collapsed (some killing the inhabitants) were found to be “not to code” or “underbuilt” despite being built under newer, more stringent codes.
One of those was a 3 story apartment on Moorpark Ave. that ‘pancaked’- right across the street from my sibling’s condo. The contractor was later charged with “negligent homicide.”
Fun fact- after the “great quake” in San Francisco, building codes were “relaxed” so as to rebuild the city quicker, and get the tourist trade going again. There’s also a high-rise building in S.F. that’s LEANING, and no one seems to be able to decide what to do about it! And keep in mind that S.F. is built on a major (active) earthquake fault. AND, a portion of the city was originally built on backfill that was not properly compacted.
Now imagine how much worse it is in UAE territory and Dubai.
Never trust anyone who is terrified of a strip of bacon.

Don’t even think about schooling me on how anything construction works. I wrote the book. One more thing, there is not such thing as flammable coating on the “outside” of windows. I also doubt there is any such thing as fire protection and safety engineer. MEP Engineer? Yes. FPS Engineer? Nope.
