Noted in Passing: If we believed in omens… at the pump today in Chico

So I pull into Safeway and notice the flashing gas pump icon blinking “Feed Me!”  I prepared myself for anger since when it comes to gas price anger, I wrote the bumperstrip:

Grumbling and hating Biden (MORE!) I pull up to the pump, stick in the hose, set the catch on autopilot, and walk away. Some minutes later the handle catch automatically clunks off and the pump stops (Hand to God) at:

(BTW I’ve still got a couple of dozen “I Hate Biden More” bumper strips left. $5.00 (Five Bucks) via Paypal or cash check or money order to the Mangrove address

In that case, just drop me an email saying you sent it and I’ll just mail one off to you upon receipt of the email.  As you can see, they look good.)

We’re at about $2.99-3.09 here in my part of Mississippi. But I made the mistake of letting the 36 gallon tank in the truck get almost down to empty. (Never do this. Kicked myself.) 30 gallons. At least the new truck is getting better mileage than the old one.

Here in Will county, south of Chicago, gas is $3.49-$3.55. Fortunately I’m close to the Indiana border and just got gas at $3.15 there.
And I just won a raffle at work and got a $25 gift card for Speedway gas. I can easily remember when that would have filled my tank, rather than not quite half filling it.
    Let’s go Brandon.

Hmm. Maybe that gas cost omen had something to do with that Starbucks post at KA-CHING you just had to share.

Gerard, I love you… If’n I can land a job soon I’ll buy some stickers… then try and get permission from my wife to post them on the vehicle! Cheers!

Diesel, 3.75 a gallon, 160/170.oo,,,,,,,,,to fill the tank on the Ford 350. Southern Oregon. Can go 800 miles.

Brother in law had similar but smaller bumper stickers with dumb ass Biden pointin up and saying “ I Did This”.

Jim’s been putting these stickers on fuel pumps in North Bay , recently he’s noticed these little stickers showing up all over on everything, seeming to be inflated!

    The truth hurts!

This is the logical place to thank Gerard for the “Just Say No” T-shirt and the “Hate Biden” bumper sticker, which just arrived today (Saturday). As for gas prices in CT, regular is $3.59 per gallon, which is not as bad for a deep blue state as it might be. I also get a small discount for filling up at the gas station attached to my supermarket– which is better than nothing, considering the effects of inflation on the costs of cat food, cat litter, and human food in the supermarket itself. Gerard should print up another batch of “Hate Biden” bumper stickers replacing the word “Gas” with “Food.”

$3.59 in the People’s Republic of Masshole-astan. I can’t remember when it cost $53 to fill up any of my cars, at any time. But I know it’s only going to get worse.
One new restaurant we tried found a tricky way to disguise their inflated prices, at first glance the entrees didn’t look to bad compared to other established places we eat at.
But when the check arrived and I went to add the tip; that line was labeled “Additional tips”? So I then went over the bill line by line and found (hidden exactly in the middle) two line items; “Admin Fee” and “Benefits Fee”. Together they added 8 bucks to the bill or two bucks per item.
Yeah, it’s a tough environment to open a new restaurant, but don’t piss in my soup and tell me it’s cream.
We’ll save our dining out money for those places that managed to live through the pandemic closures. Because it’s true, 99% of restaurants close after it’s made illegal to go eat there.

Filled up in mid Nov and probably won’t buy any more til Jan, maybe Feb. Just don’t go anywhere any more, stay our asses at home. It’s still sane here, and controllable for the most part. Cept for nature, which is still unpredictable as always.

Very windy Fri night and while policing downed branches and sticks from the driveway and yard Sat morn I saw a tree directly behind the mailbox was traumatized. The top 2/3 of it broke off and turned 180 vertically in the air and came down on the road, supported by 3 limbs and a crotch hung up on the internet wire. Normally I take care of these things when they happen with chainsaw and whatever else if needed. But this time, where the tree is intertwined with the wire is taller than my tallest stepladder. If that crotch is not cut first the full weight of the tree will bear on the wire and break it. So my wife called the internet provider 2 times and got automated messages both times.

Last night during supper (it was dark) a “good Samaritan” stopped and got out his on board chainsaw and went to work. He cut off everything but 1 support leg and the crotch, the tree remains where it is, so I don’t know why he wasted his time. The internet continues to work but if the winds kick back up that fiber optic may snap and since the provider doesn’t seem to care there may be some angry people on this road this week.

Eatery’s? Haven’t done that since March 2020 and I think the habit has been broken. I don’t expect to do that again in this lifetime. My mostly disgust with eatery’s is a long time coming. Here on the “Estancia” the food and atmosphere is always better, faster, and less expensive than anywhere else on the planet, so why change? The very idea of a stranger touching on my grub gives me goosebumps and makes my back hair sizzle.
