In 2013 Markus Imhoof used mini-helicopters and high-speed cameras to capture an extraordinary video of the inflight mating of a queen bee. The ejaculation of a drone bee is so powerful that his endophallus ruptures and he quickly dies [full video: https://t.co/rRLNRpfEOq] pic.twitter.com/Wv6TJvXlR7

His last words were, “Aaaaaahhhhhhh……it was worth it!” Thud.
At least he died happy.
If you listen close you can hear him ask, “Hoosier Daddy?”.
I can think of worse fates.

That devotion to charge ahead, no matter the bleak outcome, is about how I feel about beer. At my age, it’s better than sex. And will likely kill me as well.
A friend once told me, “Booze at first saved me. Then it tried to kill me.”
Yep.
Could be worse– at least queen bees don’t remove the drone’s head during copulation. The female praying mantis, on the other hand . . . As David Attenborough tells it, a decapitated male can continue copulating even after the female has bitten off his head:

From one of the commenters: “Wouldn’t be the first or last time a man lost his head over a woman.”
…aint the first time I seen it. why, I myself was near-mortally inj…
Spectacular clip. *Eros* and *Thanatos* always seem to go together, even in the animal kingdom.
Always. The French call the orgasm “la petite mort”, the “little death”. It is as it is.
I once knew a woman like that queen bee. She attracted many a man, and then destroyed them in a number of ways—some quite colorful, some quite comical, but in every way deadly. She invited me into her arms, but I was by then a mature man and careful in love. I spurned her and, to be honest, I enjoyed doing so.
Hmmm. I’m tempted to tell about Apache Rita, and the most painful orgasm…

If I may ressurect the oldest sex joke on the books
He came and went at the same time
Did you enjoy her BEFORE you spurned her, Mike?
No. That would have been ungentlemanly of me. I watched over time some guys I knew fall into her trap. One never recovered.
my grand kids and me were bee keepers when they were really young. Gave our 12 plus hives to a bee keeper friend. He gives us a case of honey at least yearly. Honey is one of a few foods which will never spoil. Some say the perfect Prepper food. That’s a case for us, and the boys each get their own case.
We would watch the bees for hours. Queens and breeding queens is an interesting process. My friend makes queens and sells em to keepers who’ve lost their queens. Good money to be made.

That’s remarkable footage. No end to the wonders of nature.
Going out with a bang.
Wait until you see how the Blowfly got its name.
