In 1989 our son brought home from the public school he was attending a D.A.R.E. form that he was supposed to fill out. The form had 10 questions on it, Do your parents smoke? Are there any medications kept in your living room? Etc. That was strike one. Strike 3 occurred less than 2 years later and that’s when we pulled him out of the system and started educating him ourselves. He completed his public school obligation 2 years early, then he went on to gain a 4 year degree in less than 3, and after a years apprentice he has been running his own business for the past 19 years. My wife and I then went on, over the next 15 years, to help other parents worldwide to educate their own kids.
In 1998 I created a class for public school students in 11th and 12th grades at a public school and presented it to the superintendent and he said it was the most compelling presentation he had ever witnessed and approved it on the spot. The class was named “Elements of Design” and it was an extension to the existing “AutoCAD” class. I taught that class for about 4 months and that was all I could endure. I quickly found out that the public schools were not about education but rather indoctrination and that indoctrination included the teachers, not just the students. Following rules, at all costs. In hindsight I realized that that was the way public schools were when I attended in the 60’s and early 70’s. Education isn’t the focus. Following rules is. Thinking doesn’t matter. Toeing the line does. Once again, the gov’t ruins everything it encounters.
