Noted in Passing: Chickens coming home to roost. Real soon now edition.

Remain? I want my account back! I was kicked off three years back when it was still unfashionable. How else am I going to be able to insult the LeftTweeters at will with all the respect they so deeply deserve?

IN THE PREDICATBLE “WE BE GOIN’ OFF TO THAT THAR CANADA” REACTION: Still, it’s hilarious to see the reactions coming to Musk’s possible acquisition of the social media giant.

Leftwing accounts big and small are pledging to leave the platform because of the grave threat of there possibly being less censorship of mainstream political opinions. I add that qualifier because contrary to the hysterical proclamations, I do think Musk will keep a base-level TOS in place regarding speech on the platform. The difference will be that it will be applied equally.

Really? All I can say is:

DOOR. ASS. BANG.

Is there some sort of obscure reason behind why all the social media sites have names conceived by grammar school students?

    Twitter.
Sounds like a word a mom would use in talking with her 4 year old.

That silly name was the main reason (though not the only one) that kept me from even considering joining. I figured that only twee little twerps would sign on to a platform that refers to its posts as tweets.

          tweet·er (twē′tər)
          n.
A small loudspeaker designed to reproduce high-pitched sounds in a high-fidelity audio system.

Tweeters designed for sound reinforcement and musical instrument applications are broadly similar to high fidelity tweeters, though they’re usually not referred to as tweeters, but as “high frequency drivers”.

Did you write about ” high-fidelity audio systems” and “tweeters” and “high frequency drivers”? Ok then! I present to you Magnepan speakers:

            https://magnepan.com/

I have owned Magnepans almost since I became an audiophile 46 years ago. My current model is the 3.3. Audio Heaven. But definitely not wife friendly.

Here is Cynthia “the Audio Belle” interviewing me about Magnepans in particular and the audiophile life in general.

When Cynthia and I parted ways one year ago, she kept the dog. Damn it.

            • Vanderleun April 26, 2022, 11:21 AM

              Leave the dog.
              Keep the cannoli.

Magnepan 3.3s ???? Oh now I know you are ready to be shut away in an institution for the intellectually insane.

              • Vanderleun April 26, 2022, 11:25 AM

And you actually said, “Heavens to Murgatroid”????????? Make that a life sentence. (without the audio system which you can safely store with me.)

                • Mike Austin April 26, 2022, 4:21 PM

Yes. I remembered that phrase from watching too much Snagglepuss and Yogi Bear cartoons as a lad.

My audiophilia disease just gets worse. It’s like cocaine, only more expensive. Since that video I have:

                  1. Upgraded my preamp to a Schiit Audio Freya+—$1100

                  https://www.schiit.com/products/freya-1

                  2. Bought a Jolida 1000p stereo tube amplifier—$2000

                  http://www.jolida.com/product/jd-1000-p

                  3. Bought a refurbished 1985 Harman Kardon ST-8 linear tracking turntable with an Audio-Technica cartridge—$4000.

There is no end to this madness, to this intellectual insanity. No, death will end it. Until then, on with the show!

But if you could only listen to it…simply divine, simply magic…it transports.

                  • Vanderleun April 26, 2022, 5:01 PM

Well, if it transports take it with you on your bike trip.

                  ======
I truly would like to experience that.
I saw large Magnepans similar to yours played fairly loud a long time ago. I stood in front of them and marveled that I could not tell precisely WHERE the sound was coming from from the cabinet. Even up close and paying tight attention I could not tell. It was magical.

To bi-amp a set of speakers they must contain multiple drivers, right?
When I got out of the army in 78 at Ft Campbell I went into the local car audio shop and bought a Sanyo (name I never heard before) rig for my 70 camaro ss. It was a bi-amp AM-FM auto reverse cassette unit and it ran 4 wires to each speaker. The speakers were 6×9 3 ways and I had to cut the jumpers between the woofers and mids-tweets, separating them. The head unit had 2 volume controls, 1 for the woofers and 1 for the high ends, infinitely variable depending on what was being played, as it should be.

I installed the speakers in the rear deck by the back window and inside the trunk I installed custom made insulated boxes around the backs of the 6×9’s, air tight. Infinite baffle – all of the sound was directed into the cabin. To this day it was the finest vehicle sound system I have ever heard and every friend of mine that road in that ride said so too. While I regret no longer owning that car I absolutely mourn not owning that Sanyo bi-amp sound system.

Never had any Social Media accounts save for a few months on Facebook a decade ago. All kinds of weirdos from my past found me and wanted to be my “friend”. It was more than a little embarrassing to be reminded of the type of creatures I had once hung out with. Rather than refuse them all or tell them all to go have sex with themselves, I simply departed. End of problem.

Canada to build border wall, demand Twitter pay for it

OTTAWA, CANADA, Apr. 25 — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this morning that he will work closely with the Canadian parliament to rush building a wall along the country’s border with the United States to halt the mass immigration to Canada of American leftists, journalists, and celebrities fleeing after today’s sale of Twitter to Elon Musk.

I wouldn’t say I like but I view social media.

First think (Typo, should have been thing, but I’ll let think stand.) in the morning, Gab & Twitter to see which way the wind’s blowin’.

Farcebook; many of my friends around the Ring Of Fire, Pacific rim have presences there.

MeWe, plenty of room for the occasional serious discussion, & interesting homesteading, art and Bat Sh__ Crazy groups.

Third cup of coffee (& assuming I’ve thrown nothing through the monitor screen.) & I’m ready for A’Digest, Maggie’s Farm and Small Dead animals.
