Its funny. For the past many months I have assumed that the GOP was going to lose seats in Congress, and lose various state offices as well. And continued GOP mistake after mistake seemed to support my theory. Yet, I am reminded that however badly the GOP can screw up, and the immigration debacle shows the full extent of that, I also get constant reminders that the Democrats are more than eager and willing to show up the GOP in this regard. If the GOP avoids disaster in the polls November, it will because the Democrats are crazy stupid.Posted by Final Historian at May 6, 2006 11:19 PM
According to Norman Podhoretz it's really WWIV. You say that to people it makes them REALLY nervous.Posted by Yehudit at May 7, 2006 2:21 AM
Of course the idea that there are other players besides Bush and the USA in this drama, with their own agendas, never even even crosses their tiny, narrow minds.
They're worried that Bush takes the Bible literally, something I've seen no evidence of, but not at all concerned about the mad moolahs cries of "Allah Ackbar", death to America, death to the Jews!! Nor the Shia belief that a cataclysmic war will usher in the era of the 12th Imam.
Sooner or later we're going to have to fight these brainwashed fifth coloumnists too, I'm afraid.Posted by Paul at May 7, 2006 6:47 AM

Do they not read the same articles in the news?

Then her arms were bound behind her back. A golden locket in the shape of Iraq that became her glittering trademark in front of the television cameras must have been removed at some point — it is nowhere to be seen in the grainy film, which was made by someone who pointed a mobile phone at her as she lay on a patch of earth in mortal terror.
You got my link. Good Post
You forgot the DemocraticUnderground.
The more that I read what the people on the left side of the aisle say, and write, the more convinced that insanity must be an organic disease process.
Or is it simply denial? Perhaps guilt?
I neither know, nor do I give a damn. All I know is that we must foil these people, their plans, and their hopes in order for this country to survive.
Paul... yeah, they have a mini-stroke every time Bush says "God bless America", but that Ahmadinejad intends to bring about the return of the Mahdi by way of a nuclear holocaust is no big whoop.Posted by Watcher at May 7, 2006 2:06 PM
We mere humans are astounded everyday at the quality of the quantity of your posts.
They are very rarely "good" or "good enough" they are, most often, simply brilliant.
Many have the ability to offer insight and they do it well. Few are as blessed with your talent to make those words of insight sing and your, probably innate, wit.
Lordy, now I have to do a second emailing. Glad that I had already started supper before continuing with American Digest today.
> "There's something really dangerous about a guy who believes the Bible literally..."
...As opposed to a guy who believes the Koran literally (is there another way?)??
THAT is A-OK with these nitwits?
If I had to choose (and apparently, we do -- all the ones who don't seem to be pretty much absolute chickensh** weenies), I know which one I'D go with.Posted by Ohbloodyhell at May 7, 2006 6:45 PM

A Link to the Video is included.
Another innocent person, this time a Iraqi journalist, was tortured and executed the Al-Qaeda way. Beheading:
EVEN by the stupefying standards of Iraq’s unspeakable violence, the murder of Atwar Bahjat, one of the country’s top television journalists, was an act of exceptional cruelty.
[…]Bahjat was abducted after making three live broadcasts from the edge of her native city of Samarra on the day its golden-domed Shi’ite mosque was blown up, allegedly by Sunni terrorists.
[…]Two men drove up in a pick-up truck, asking for her. She appealed to a small crowd that had gathered around her crew but nobody was willing to help her. It was reported at the time that she had been shot dead with her cameraman and sound man.
We now know that it was not that swift for Bahjat.........
How can ANYONE excuse this? I know the video will be hard to watch but those who excuse these scum need to see this. They need to hear the terror in her voice, they need to see the pain these scum cause. They need to understand we do not fight against a group that has a bone to pick with the US. We fight against a ideology from hell itself.
These killers said “allahu akbar” just as those who put Flight 93 into the ground did, just as those who flew planes in the WTC and the Pentagon did. Just as those who detonate a belt of explosives do.
Will this teach us anything?.......Curt, Flopping Aces
On 9/11 I knew beyond all doubt that this was World War III, and I didn't need President Bush to tell me so. I also instantly knew that this was a war for our survival as a nation and a civilization.
Yet I don't claim any special genius or insight. It was just, you know, OBVIOUS.
So what the !@#$ is WRONG with these people? I read some of the links Gerard provided; at least as much as I could stomach. The MetaFilter one was especially...uh...words fail me at this point. The poster who compared World Wars to movie sequels was particularly retarded. I fervently hope he or she is too busy playing video games or text messaging to vote.Posted by rickl at May 7, 2006 9:44 PM

Came here from Neo-neocon's web-site.
I think that she and you are touching on a vital aspect of this:
In a world without religious belief, how is one to interpret the passion one sees on the screens, with thousands chanting "Death to America"?
Presumably, one links it to one's own views, i.e., "What would arouse such passion in me?" This goes to the heart of the "we must understand their root causes" line of argumentation.
I know I am rational. I know that as a rational person, I would never get this passionate, this fuming over a mere religion (or mere instructions from some religious figure).
So, all these people, chanting away, must have a real reason for their hatred, and if we could only understand it, then we'd be able to "get to yes," as one professor has touted it.
Calling them evil only obscures that path.

I think this path of thinking is why so many on the Left can blithely equate the Christian Right with the Taliban. Because "those" people will listen to their pastors and preachers, who tout a figure of imagination, therefore, they are functionally equivalent to the teeny-tiny minority of marchers who believe that Allah wills the death of America.
Well, I went to a few of those sites and engaged them--'cuz I actually like trying to teach a pig to sing.
I got my posts deleted for my troubles--I got deleted by just asking them to consider that the people trying to kill us might actually be, you know, Trying to Kill Us....
It's true, they can't handle the truth.Posted by Evan Larsen at May 8, 2006 6:43 PM
Thanks for plumbing the depths of moonbattery for us. I tried to trackback, but it doesn't seem to be working.
In Bush calls war war, left goes berserk, I noted that "this isn't even the first time that the President has agreed with someone else's characterization of the current conflict as World War 3." Curious? ;-)Posted by Richard G. Combs at May 8, 2006 10:49 PM
I agree that beaheading 100 people on video and blowing up more than 2000 soldiers is a far worse crime than blowing up 100,000 Iraqis. I don't understand what the liberals are going on about! Can anyone explain?Posted by Bush Best Friend at May 11, 2006 2:47 AM
