I commented something along similar lines recently at the Remnant, a Roman Catholic site, after they gave him the same half-hearted endorsement that seems to be so popular these days:
"I'd like to see a little less condescension and a little more respect for Donald Trump---from you and every other Christian who continues to damn him with faint praise. You speak as though the morality of his political positions was an accident, and incidental to who he is as a man. Have you considered the possibility that, despite being successful and wealthy, he is also idealistic and courageous? That he might just feel that he has an obligation to help his fellow countrymen? That he's putting himself through this unnecessary torment in order to assure a better world for his beloved children and grandchildren? To my mind, that has to be his main motivation---that, and God's grace.
What could motivate an otherwise sane, comfortable and successful man to pit himself against a vicious, corrupt and deeply-entrenched political elite instead of enjoying the many blessings of his later life? Let someone else do it. Instead, he sees that the ship of American civilization is sinking, and he jumps in to help. His enemies accuse him of not making sacrifices. Sacrifice comes in many forms. If this isn't sacrifice, I don't know what is.
Do you realize that Mr. Trump is running at considerable personal risk to himself, including risk to his life, his family, his property, and his reputation? He has everything to lose and nothing to gain by becoming president---only a world of endless effort, lies and pain. Ann Barnhardt is right: you have to be nuts to run for office in the US these days.
There is not one single man, much less, politician, you can name who could withstand the onslaught of hatred and vilification he has had to endure at the hands of the devil's slaves. An ordinary man would have collapsed long ago under the weight of this evil. And yet we take it for granted that he will bat 1000 for us every day and persist in being more energetic and more courageous than we could ever, in a million years, be. And we criticize him for the imperfection of his Christianity; and we are not grateful enough that he is fighting on our behalf.
I can't help noticing the ironic juxtaposition of the roles of Pope Francis and Mr Trump: outwardly, Pope Francis would appear to be gold, but he is base metal; Outwardly, Donald Trump would appear to be base metal, but he is gold. He deserves our respect.
Truly, God is wise in his foolishness."Posted by ahem at October 4, 2016 12:57 PM

" Donald Trump turned his back on endless, unlimited fame, wealth, hedonism, luxury and peace. Cincinnatus left a plow, not a throne."
Heck, if you just said that, it would have been enough.
Wow.Posted by cond0011 at October 4, 2016 1:46 PM
If I have learned anything in the last 55 years it is this.. Do not put your hope in man..
That said, I think Donald Trump is probably the last great hope of this age..
He brings to mind other great men of history who themselves were deeply flawed but carried the burden like none of their contemporaries could..
Men like Winston Churchill, Teddy Roosevelt, Marcus Aurelius... Donald Trump??? maybe.. if not him .. who?Posted by Bill Henry at October 4, 2016 1:52 PM
Remember when your mother put merthiolate on your skinned knee? You begged her to put mercurochrome on it but she said, "That's a pretty bad scrape, it needs methiolate."
And it burned like the devils tail was laid on it. You screamed, you squeezed the knee but the burning just kept on and on. Your mother said the burning was the merthiolate killing the infection.
Trump is merthiolate to LIEberal ideology.
They are screaming, they are writhing in desperation, they are clenching their painful selves.
The national infection is being readied for the kill.
Are you ready to do your part?
The clean up.
Dump a can of baby powder down each hip boot cause it's gonna get mess around here and you're gonna hafta wade right in there and giterdun.

Gerard, while I like the sentiment expressed in your cited excerpt, I have a habit of looking at original sources.
The website from which you acquired that post has several thread headings that can only be characterized as anti-semitic.
I get the "I don't give a F*** about being called "racist" anymore", but are intelligent people seriously trying to go towards hatred of Jews and blatant racism?
That strikes me as just wrong, and wrong headed. Can we not support the principles underpinning Western Civilization and not go off into the weeds of racism?

I look for things that have a point and talk to the issues that interest me. I do not, in general, scroll around a site to see if it is full of acceptable attitudes.
When I find these items it is usually via email or some other tip.
Personally, I'm not at all anti-semitic. For confirmation you can speak to my first wife or my daughter. Or any number of others.
At the same time, I'm not in this instance interested in running a purity test on sources. Not at this time.
Besides, you need to read my essay from years ago....
On the Most Ancient Virus to Infect the Soul @ AMERICAN DIGEST
Antisemitism is not a sign, a symbol, a bullet or a gas. It is a Virus. It is the oldest known virus to infest the human soul. In those infected, the virus is clever enough to mask it's existence by renaming itself as "anti-Zionism." Through the renaming of this ancient disease as a “political problem,” infected souls can transmit the virus to their friends, families. They can spread their disease at their schools and in their their community, church, or nation. The virus is also transmitted by exchanging infected fantasies with infected ideologues. By changing it's name the disease made it possible for many to deny that they have contracted the virus, and that their souls are chancre-ridden and rotting. This facilitates the current outbreak.Posted by Vanderleun at October 4, 2016 4:15 PM
I was about to take the same tact as Diogenes as anti-semitism is beyond vile. It an infection of one's immortal soul. I, a failed RC, have lived twice in Israel and still count Israelis as friends. I love the place.
ahem - Whoever you are, I copy each of your erudite comments. Thank you for your wisdom. You say it all much better than most.
And the barbaric "USA USA" filth still support this
Best explanation of anti-Semitism I've seen.Viruses are the insidious bane of mankind, the analogy makes good sense.Posted by Nori at October 4, 2016 8:25 PM
I think the comment makes good points about the patriotic impulse. Trump loves America and Americans. Hillary doesn't. That's the major difference in their "qualifications for office" as I see it.
I noted that the original post did require some . . . editing. You have:
"We joked about road wars to whistle past the f**king graveyard because we knew it'd never be that good. Just slow rot and shitty jobs until we died, getting older and weaker and fewer while an endless horde. twerked in the ruins of our grandeur."
But the original reads:
"We joked about road wars to whistle past the f**king graveyard because we knew it'd never be that good. Just slow rot and shitty jobs until we died, getting older and weaker and fewer while an endless horde of muds twerked in the ruins of our grandeur."
You took out the reference to the "muds." I agree that change improves the message . . .
We may not be able to approve of everything believed or said by some of those who stand with us on the ramparts of Western Civiliation. We don't have to. Remember that during the "Continuation War," Jewish Finnish soldiers fought side by side with elements of the Waffen SS against the Red Army. Jewish officers declined the offer of Iron Cross, but Jewish military doctors tended to German casualties.Posted by Punditarian at October 5, 2016 5:04 AM
I live in south King county, WA. People in King county are so blue, it's like living in Smurfsville. Drove across WA on I90 recently; noticed 4 Trump/Pence signs but no Hillary signs. There's a large Trump/Pence sign and a small Gary Johnson sign on my way to some trails but I've yet to see any Hillary signs. It would be great if Trump would schedule a rally, maybe at the Puyallup fair grounds.Posted by CNC at October 5, 2016 7:54 AM
Thank you Gerard. That makes sense to me, and I am reassured.
And you are absolutely right. "Memes" are a form of virus. Islam is another "meme virus" in my opinion.
