Mapping Morbidity: "The permanent sunset of the Republican party has begun."

Even if the Republicans recapture the White House in 2016 (doubtful), their candidate will be farther to the left than any previous Republican, including even G.W. Bush

That is because the republicans keep voting for big government, big spending, less freedom republican candidates. Republicans love big government just as much as the democrats, they just want the "R" brand of big government.

If republicans didn't want big government, they wouldn't vote for it... of course if you say anything about republicans being too far to the left you get told that you are too "ideological pure" and should still vote for whatever big government candidate the GOP offers.

I've been speaking of this and related issues since about 1980, and since 1980, I've been called a racist hundreds of times by white 'Pubs. They often screw up their faces and refuse to make eye contact when they do it.

I was just called a racist by the wife of a friend of mine (via email). She's been assaulted and nearly raped twice by blacks. She informed me that I 'didn't know how to approach black men.'

If Europeans somehow manage to survive, this period of history will be viewed with amazement and disbelief.

Postie, that is exactly right. The Republican party is pretending to be conservative - or at least some of them are - but they are not.

Blah, blah. So the U.S. (world?) - economics, culture and society - is dipped in amber and remains exactly as it was the day of November 6th. Excuse me if I remain sceptical. We can be pretty sure Obamacare, with its associated costs, will reach takeoff velocity. We can be pretty sure the debt black hole will continue to expand. We can be pretty sure the 75,000 page U.S. tax code will add a few more pages. We can be pretty sure the 90,000 Federal Register of rules and regulations will soon reach 6 digits. And yet this "woe is me" projection apparently ignores all this?

Hey, we are on the cusp of radical societal transformation. Obama is making sure we hit the wall as fast as possible with little or no time to change course. Would the "Republicans, They Thirst For Death" party have steered us into the calm and tranquil shoals of economic growth and rising employment? There was no indication that R&R really had a clue. No, we are beginning the endgame of H.L. Menken's famous dictum that democracy is a theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard. Well, get ready to step out of the way.

And after the high hard one when we pass the debt black hole's event horizon? Who knows. But this pseudo-intellectual map isn't going to show the new reality. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if in another 10-15 years NEITHER the Republican nor Democrat parties are still in existence.

Lorne, I'd have said that if I don't know how to approach black men, then how come you're the one who got assaulted and almost raped twice?

My problem with the map is that it draws conclusions about the population as a whole based on the subset of the population that voted. (singing) One of these things is not like the other....

Raaawwther, I would interpret this chart as the proportion of producer class to moocher class.

I see a hell of a lot of purple and almost equal amounts of red and blue.

BlogDog hits it. This picture just happens to represent a close marginal win where their candidate's base came out and the Republican base did not. Of course it looks like what they want to believe.

The real question is: Would it be even more blue if Obama revealed himself as an out and proud lefty?

As he has not, methinks the answers is that it would not. Therefore their interpretation of the diagram is nothing more than wishcasting and propaganda.
