Dear Lord, an honest man. The NJ press must be reeling.

W.C. Fields's aphorism to one side, you can't predict an honest man, either. He'll go where he pleases, do what he thinks is right -- and be damned to anyone who dislikes it. New Jersey's reporters, flacksters, and mouthpieces will have to watch closely.

If only we could get such as Christie elected to high office in New York -- or nationally!

A lot of us were really worried that this guy was just going to be another Corzine/McGreevy/Whitman wimp and spendthrift. I almost considered voting for the third party candidate because I just did not believe that he was going to do anything about our fiscal mess here in Jersey.

I am so relieved that he has proven himself to be THE man to take on the unions, the corruption, the political patronage and asinine judiciary to start turning this state around. He may be making a lot of enemies right now, but he's also making a lot of friends and saving this state from a California style insolvency. Granted, the NJ Governor is probably the most powerful governor in the state, but he at least knows how to use that right.

A breath of fresh air, indeed!

My God, this is wonderful. I've watched it several times since yesterday, and it just keeps getting better.

Christie nails it with that crack about "process." Any man who's been manipulated into marriage counseling will feel an instant recognition of the argument "I don't want to respond to what you're saying because I want to talk about how you're saying it."

Amen. Or, better yet, stay right where I am and vote for him in 2012. I find it immensely comforting to know that we still have citizens like Christie--people of clarity, integrity and determination. The fact that he was actually elected--in New Jersey, no less--is proof to me that better things are coming.

He's the Terminator that the phony on the Left Coast turned out NOT to be. Can he be cloned to tame Mexifornia?

A honest man can speak this way. Why don't we hear this kind of straight talk more from our political class? Must have something to do with that "escape hatch."

I can almost hear the lady in the harbor singing these words now:
