In sharp contrast to the stupid questions of Peggy Noonan (see below), the always astute Neoneocon asks and answers What's behind Obama's Teleprompter addiction?
Obama is addicted to his Teleprompter not only because he knows he sounds better --smoother and smarter-- with it than without. The deeper reason for his reliance on it may just be that he differs so profoundly from the persona he wishes to convey that he quite literally cannot trust himself to speak without it. Shorn of the Teleprompter, he not only runs the risk of revealing a disfluency that could rival (or even exceed?) that of his reviled predecessor George Bush -- he may reveal who he truly is, an angry man with a profoundly radical agenda for America. Why papers and media outlets are paying pundits like Noonan to write tripe, while writers like Neoneocon go begging, is beyond me.
Until this sort of fundamental disconnect is reversed, the MSM will continue to die.
Posted by Vanderleun at March 20, 2009 2:30 PMOur President is beginning to remind me of those fascinating and remarkable stories of successful people who reveal later in life that they can't read. Somehow, despite having to perpetrate a kind of fraud, they managed to build a pretty good life.
The thing is, though, not a single one of them has ever had anywhere near the power bestowed upon Obama.
Abraham Lincoln (a man our President pseudo-idolizes) is quoted as once saying, "If you want to test a man's character, give him power."
How's Obama doing so far on the character part?
Posted by: Roderick Reilly at March 20, 2009 2:48 PMThat was a brilliant reading on the teleprompter crutch. Wow. Frightening in that it feels so true.
We are so screwed.
Look at the bright side. Instead of the hassle of impeaching our leader, we can just bring it back to Fry's and exchange it for a wide screen or something.
Posted by: Gagdad Bob at March 20, 2009 3:47 PMYou are right abour the glaring differences between Neo and Peo. There simply isn't any comparison. Neo eats Peo's lunch 1000 times a day. Good get.

Okay, not that bad. But bad enough.
Posted by: bogie wheel at March 20, 2009 5:15 PMOur Being There guy starts hating this nation with his first breath in the morning and spends his days waiting for the collapse he is furiously attempting to precipitate.
No mystery at all why he's chained to a teleprompter. Maniacal laughter always gives his sort away...
Posted by: TmjUtah at March 20, 2009 5:49 PMI have decided to start calling the Hussein administration the "Insane Clown Posse". I don't know anything about the band, but the name sure fits the clown show in the White House.

And the quality of the comment stream is simply unmatched on the Web.
Posted by: Rob De Witt at March 20, 2009 7:21 PMOne of my young adult children observed that she would pony up actual cash, in advance, to be able to open Neo's blog each day (yours too, Gerard)......and that Noonan isn't even worth the mouseclick she costs.
There's hope for the future, but it's out here, not in D.C.
Posted by: askmom at March 20, 2009 7:38 PMFat Man: Somebody somewhere called it the "Hussein Clown Posse". I don't remember where I saw that.

Why aren't they paying Neo? Why aren't they paying you, Gerard?
Because neither of you would be willing to take the loyalty oath, toe the party line, perform the ritual thousand kowtows to the Wise Ones, et cetera ad nauseam infinitam. No mystery there. Sad, but neither obscure nor complex.

I couldn't agree more and would only add to the above Neo's commitment to thorough research.
