The record makes it clear that the Police Officer did the right thing, that Gates was shopping for a confrontation, and that Obama should have STFU until he had all the facts. This wasn't about racism at all, unless we count the kind of racism that uses imaginary slights to build vaporous piles of victimization chits.

Not that we'd want him to. It's too delicious watching him balance and re-balance his narcissistic pride against the distain of every cop in the country. This episode was just an unexpected, happy coat of ice helping Obama slip over the edge of the "disapprove" ratings slope.

And with the pundits already calling this episode Gatesgate, Gates still sputtering defensive abuse in every direction and Obama thinking he can just intone "finito" and it will magically disappear, that slope is looking steeper every hour.
