Electric Brick: Bad Karma: Our Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid breaks down. Our Fisker Karma cost us $107,850. It is super sleek, high-tech—and now it’s broken. We have owned our car for just a few days; it has less than 200 miles on its odometer.

The iPad is Unbeatable Why Apple’s tablet competitors don’t stand a chance—and maybe never will.

IQ, even genius, has no necessary bearing on wisdom, common sense, morality or character. That’s why a smart elite that’s not wise is worse than useless. --Gates of Vienna: The Bee and the Lamb, Part 5

With US you get "More:" More credit expansion to cure the ills of credit expansion. More loans to nations and banksters who can’t repay existing loans. More technological capacity transferred to China. More subsidized college for imbeciles who can’t calculate 24% of 87 or pinpoint Moscow on the map. More retreat before advancing Islam. More appeasement of the barbarians within. More “minorities” in privileged positions in the ruling apparatus of Leviathan. More police facing Mecca. More women in combat, and toy soldiers confiscated from little boys. More gayness in gay Paree. More persecution of the flyover serfs who notice all that. -- Gates of Vienna: The Bee and the Lamb, Part 4

"On a scale from 0 to 20 points, where 20 signifies full engagement with mainstream American culture and 0 signifies deep cultural isolation within the new upper class bubble, you scored between 9 and 12. Somewhat deceiving test:
1) I worked non-union construction
2) I drove cab
3) I attended by did not finish college
4) I am a self taught IT pro making in excess of 5 figures
6) My father came from white trash in Ohio but was trained as a nuclear physicist while in the navy
7) I hate beer

The test does not do well with people from my background or for that matter age. I would suspect that the late baby boomers are the last native generation to straddle cultural divides. Its second generation immigrants that now have that honor.

For the security minded you might consider Simplisafe.com It's a self-installed home security alarm system that comes with a buil-in cellphone connection for alarm monitoring. The cellphone connection avoids the vulnerablity of having your phone line cut or works for those without landline connection. I believe SimpliSafe can be used un-monitored, it just makes noise when activated. Monitoring costs $15/mo and you can add text notification for $5 more.

There are also home cordless phone systems that link to a cell phone by bluetooth. You can use these to connect some home alarms to cellphones if you have no landline.

You might also consider a full-size gun safe ($600-1,000) whether you have firearms or not. Bolt it down and keep SOME of your valuable in it. The heavier the better for a gun safe, so it can't be easily carted away. You might also mount it so a person can't easily stand in front of door and manipulate a crow bar to open the door.

If you decide on firearms, I'd suggest a shotgun and a handgun. A Shotgun can be had for $350 or less for new, top-quality. 20 gauge is big enough to perform permanent social work, but small recoil enough you can practice and make susequent shots on target.

For handguns, the sweetspot is in 40 caliber pistols. 40 is a devastating bullet, almost as effective as the very expensive 45 caliber, is almost as cheap as 9mm and 38 caliber. Lastly, your firearm is the most valuable item in your home, don't talk about it to anyone in your area.

Security is a frame of mind and preparation, not a device. Do some research and make your plan and then practice.

I can't remember when I discovered this site, Gerard, by I know I found it through Bookworm Room. Among a number of other great bloggers I have read through her site, and then through yours.
We lost another great blogger. Neptunus Lex. The world is sucking at the moment.
