First Thoughts: It's Not Chess. You Don't Win by Toppling the King.

osama-bin-laden-dead-300x300.jpgIt was like a fine mask, suddenly startled, made angry, and petrified. Driven home into the heart of the stone figure attached to it was a knife. Round its hilt was a frill of paper, on which was scrawled:

"Drive him fast to his tomb. This, from JACQUES." -- Tale of Two Cities

1) All members of the team that put a bullet into Bin Laden's cranium and then took the body out with them deserve honors, medals, ticker-tape parades, and all bar tabs covered for life.

2) No more taxes for them. Ever.

3) Whole-hearted approval of President Obama's action in green-lighting this obviously high-risk operation.

4) A deep and grateful recognition of the effort and work of President George W. Bush in putting the mechanisms and tools in place to enable President Obama to carry on and complete this mission.

5) Is there a "Usama's Last Tape" coming where he speaks from beyond the grave?

6) To repeat, all bar tabs covered and no more taxes ever for the team and their support crew.

Seconded.

Indeed. Bravo, lads! Well played!

I've been looking forward to this. I toast the men who did it, the machines that carried them, and the government that ordered it.

Nice shot! (golf clap)

We'll see. I am highly dubious.

No question they deserve but I doubt they want the publicity.

Don't want to become the personal target of the "avengers," nor to have their families singled out.

But God bless them.

I have this nagging thought, brother, that the Dead Man Talking will be allowed to have a funeral fit for a king. That his loving family will request the body of their dear dead daddums back...and our beloved leader will accommodate them most obligingly...you know, in order to allow for all that 'healing' and gettingoveritness - you know- out of respect for The Religion of Peace™

Well, that didn't take long:

From JihadWatch

"U.S. ensures that bin Laden's body handled in accord with Islamic tradition

Here's a telling nugget from an AP story on the death of Osama (thanks to Bryan Preston):

Officials said the U.S. would ensure that bin Laden's body was handled in accordance with Islamic tradition.

But why? After all, didn't Barack Obama say this tonight?

"We must also reaffirm that the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader. He was a mass murderer of Muslims."

So why is the body of a mass murderer of Muslims being handled in accordance with Islamic tradition? Aren't U.S. officials thereby tacitly acknowledging that bin Laden was a Muslim leader, notwithstanding Barack Obama's protestations to the contrary?

And if Osama was indeed a Muslim leader, what are the implications of that for U.S. policy?

There's a question no one in official Washington will dare to answer."

Humph. It's just not the same without GW in charge. But I'll take it.

Posted by: RedCarolina at May 2, 2011 3:18 AM

God bless the Navy Seals!

Posted by: RedCarolina at May 2, 2011 3:30 AM

Nothing is the same since GW left office, but I'll take it too. A bullet to the head put to good use.

Gitmo detainees ID'd his courier? Well, that didn't happen last Summer. Either we've had our eyes on him for a long time, or the CIA needs to cull a lot of dead weight... probably both. From an intel standpoint, once you ID OBL, then you ID everyone he communicates with, and everyone who communicates with them ad infinitum until the network is fleshed out. Maybe we've done that, and it was time to pull the trigger.

Posted by: Casca at May 2, 2011 3:59 AM

It is worth repeating over and over again that we got the goods on bin Ladin by HARD QUESTIONING of GITMO detainees. Liberal idiot friends, mush-headed co-workers, golf-addicted presidents all need to have this chanted at them ad nauseum.

Enhanced interrogation. Gitmo inmates. Dead bin Ladin. Some justice at last for our three thousand slaughtered innocents. Not that we can expect liberals to understand a complicated, nuanced chain of consequences like this, but at least they can be forced to hear it loudly and often. Taunting them with "we told you so" is okay, too.

Yay!!!

Posted by: Mikey NTH at May 2, 2011 6:16 AM

So. The Won-derful handed out a permit to go bin Laden hunting.

Well Done to the guys that did it. No question.

Now we've whacked a guy who hasn't been relevant for five years, maybe six. al Qaeda will go on as before, perhaps with a martyr to triumph, perhaps not, but in any case satisfied that making the Americans focus on irrelevancy is a good way to give your friends more freedom of action.

We get to sing and celebrate. Ding dong, the witch is dead, and we dance in the streets the same way the Islamists did on 9/12, and for the same reason. Revenge is sweet!

Yah. Well, at least "racerism" won't be all that needed any more. Point out that gas costs $40.00 a gallon or that appointing the BPP as nationwide election monitors is a bad idea, and the response will be, "What do you mean? He got bin Laden, and Bush didn't."

Ric

So does this mean waterboarding will become fashionable again? Barack Obama taking credit is the greatest farce in the history of man. One of the few decisive votes he managed during his brief time in the U.S. Senate was voting against the war, then candidate Obama vowed to close Gitmo (where the information was extracted.. via waterboarding) while his cronies ran around threatening to try the Bush Administration as war criminals. It's time for Obama to stand down. We already knew he was an empty suit, shameless and aimless. Now we'll have to wait and see if his handlers have enough class, or at least enough common sense, to call off his act and allow him a dignified political demise. He doesn't deserve that, but at the end of the day, we are Americans. Osama Bin Laden got a proper burial, so I suppose we should grant a proper political burial for Barack Hussein Obama. I'll never have sympathy for our arrogant, lying president, but if we can't impeach him for his action in Libya, then he should stand down gracefully now. This day belongs to Americans, George Bush, the CIA and our military, specifically the Navy Seals.

Posted by: RedCarolina at May 2, 2011 6:22 AM

Can we borrow your Navy Seals please? There are a few high-walled, electronically locked, iron-gated Muslim enclaves in West Berkshire England, adjacent to Sandhurst, our 'equivalent' to the Military Training Establishment overlooking OBL's hideout in Pakistan.

I've contacted our SAS, but they say that the ECHR precludes any such interdiction. However it apparently didn't preclude blowing up Gadaffi's grandkids, because that was covered under the R2P clause of the Useless Nations Resolution 1973.

As for a bar tab for life for your heroes? I'd go further than that. How about multiplying the bounty reward by 10 and sharing it out amongst the 24 guys (any gals?). After all, it's just another ten minutes work for Ben Bernake's printing presses. Tell the snitch/es to go eat Chapati.

In the meantime let's all rejoice. When will the fly-on-the-wall documentary of the whole operation appear on You Tube? Or will we have to wait for Wikileaks - or Hollywood's version, even.

I think it was Twitter this time, Frank.

What a tragedy for Obamessiah, this was suppose to happen just before the 1012 election. I think I saw that they disposed of his carcass at sea. That's too bad, they could have turned him into sausage and held a barbecue on the White House lawn the week before the election.

Posted by: Xbureaucratbob at May 2, 2011 7:22 AM

I keep hearing that the torture of the detainees is what lead to the information and yet no where has this been mentioned except as a myth.

Posted by: muffler at May 2, 2011 7:38 AM

Of course it is a myth, muffler, just like the location of Obama's birth. haha. A Nobel Peace Prize winner is not going to credit waterboarding with his only hope for a 2012 reelection.

Posted by: RedCarolina at May 2, 2011 8:26 AM

These brave men deserve nothing less than bacon for life.

Posted by: Gagdad Bob at May 2, 2011 9:14 AM

Note, too, that the helicopters didn't break down (well, apparently one did on the scene, and the SEALs used it to add to the frolic).

If everything had worked in 1980, we might've had another four years of Jimmah. If Obama was an honest person, he'd be buying drinks for some helicopter mechanics.

Eternity surrounded by British spinsters would be a hell fitting for bin Ladin. Can we arrange for his quota of virgins to consist of Susan Boyle and 71 close facsimiles?

Posted by: raincityjazzr at May 2, 2011 10:53 AM

Hope they saved the casing. That'd be awesome. Just think, there's only one!

Even more important, I hope they saved a toenail or hair or something before the burial-at-sea. And I hope the corpus delicti pics are released.

Don't make us put Donald Trump on the case......

Posted by: Morgan K Freeberg at May 2, 2011 11:12 AM

Good job of killing.

Bad job of burying.

Posted by: MizzE at May 2, 2011 1:08 PM

Virgins to consist of Susan Boyle and 71 close facsimiles?

No those virgins consist of Babs Boxer and Feinstein, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe cloned over and over ad infinitum.

"Is there a 'Usama's Last Tape' coming where he speaks from beyond the grave?"

No, but we do have his last words to his wife: "You feed the goats, and I'll feed the fishes..."

Posted by: BillT at May 2, 2011 5:37 PM

Peter King confirmed waterboarding was the method but overseas, not at Gitmo.

Posted by: RedCarolina at May 2, 2011 6:32 PM

Maybe burying the man according to 'Islamic' traditions isn't such a bad thing...with the proper visual aid.

Posted by: Jewel at May 2, 2011 9:58 PM

Rats, video gonzo!

Posted by: vanderleun at May 3, 2011 12:33 PM

Let's just get two things straight. Obama aint no cowboy but he makes one hell of a hypocrite.

Nice job SEALS and all involved.
