About an hour ago, Mark Landler, the erstwhile White House correspondent published an item entitled: Politics Put Aside for Unveiling of Bush Portrait @ NYTimes.com. At least that's how it looks now.
A bit earlier, in the first feed headline to go out from the New York Times the same item was titled:
That's all too typical of the kind of grunting insect-level hate and passive-aggressive threat the girly-men of the Times have descended to over the years.
The bio the unfortunate lad Landler reads, in part, "Mark began his career at The Times in 1987 as a copy boy." In many ways, he still is that feckless boy.
I've written Lander to ask if it was himself or his editors who dreamed up that headline. Either way, it's the kind of dumb punk move that is only too typical of the Times. I doubt I'll receive an answer, but if I do I will relay it.
Posted by gerardvanderleun at May 31, 2012 1:53 PMIn all fairness, I believe that the headline is always written by folks other than the reporter. Nonetheless it does tell you something about the mentality at the NYTimes.
