STATE OF THE UNION: Life During Wartime

Best number from the finest pop concert film ever made, Stop Making Sense. [Full film is HERE.]

David Byrne: I've got a tape I want to play.

Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock,
We blended in with the crowd,
We got computers, we're tapping phone lines,
I know that ain't allowed.
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
Or in a suit and a tie.
I changed my hairstyle so many times now
Don't know what I look like!

You make me shiver. I feel so tender.
We make a pretty good team.
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving.
You ought to get you some sleep.
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
They won't help me survive.
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace.
The burning keeps me alive.

David Byrne: Thanks! Does anybody have any questions?

Two acquaintances who lived on my dormitory floor, Anne Flett and Chuck Raanberg, went on to be Emmy winning writers (Fraser mostly). Not too long ago I reconnected with Anne (we had a fling, back then) via Facebook, and told her about Talking Heads' "Found a Job" (http://www.metrolyrics.com/found-a-job-lyrics-talking-heads.html)
She had never heard of it, I think because she had become a Springsteen fan. Not long after that, I deleted my Facebook account and have never clicked on a Facebook link again.

Demme's single shot on Byrne during "Once In A Lifetime" is masterful moviemaking.

We saw the Heads at the Greek during that album tour...best concert experience ever.
