It is accepted by most citizens as an article of faith. It all started out with the best of intentions, but as we know the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Social Security & Medicare are almost 2/3 of our expenditure pie, no? Way outstrips defense, transportation, etc. If economists agree that we can never dig our way out of Obama's 20+ trillion dollar spending, how does anyone come to the conclusion that we can honor $160+ trillion of Social Security & Medicare obligations???
