UPDATED: Missing Pages of History Restored: The Obama-Blago Story That Disappeared is Here

"I did not have interpersonal relations with that man, Governor Blagojevich." - Bloodthirsty Liberal

The story that put the lie to the No-O & Blogo Meeting was discovered yesterday. Once discovered it promptly disappeared down the memory hole at News : KHQA. Seeing that it had vanished I searched for it in Google Cache and, sure enough, there it was. For about an hour and then cached page vanished as well. A second story from the same source confirming the meeting also met the same fate.

But, fearing something like the erasure of the cached page, I made a screen shot. Here it is:

UPDATE VIA: Little Green Footballs Found "at the Illinois Government News Network, an announcement that the meeting took place and the Senate seat was discussed, with the headline: Governor Blagojevich Congratulates President-elect Obama and Discusses U.S. Senate Seat

alexishunt.jpgUPDATE VIA THE COMMENTS: Another screengrab from another "disappeared" story from KHQA states Obama and the Governor meeting took place. This one is by KHQA's Alexis Hunt (Left).

UPDATE: In a vaguely worded "clarification" just issued, KHQA states:

KHQA TV wishes to offer clarification regarding a story that appeared last month on our website The story, which discussed the appointment of a replacement for President Elect Obama in the U.S. Senate, became the subject of much discussion on talk radio and on blog sites Wednesday.

The story housed in our website archive was on the morning of November 5, 2008. It suggested that a meeting was scheduled later that day between President Elect Obama and Illinois Governor Blagojevich. KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place. Governor Blagojevich did appear at a news conference in Chicago on that date. -KHQA Clarification : News : KHQA[Emphasis added]

sowers.jpgThe pulled story, as you can see, was filed by one "Carol Sowers." [Left] Ms. Sowers position at the station is given, elsewhere, as "Executive News Director." She also covers other stories on the political beat for the station.

Why this "clarification" has been issued is not cleared up by the item. The original item does not, as you can see, "suggest" that the meeting might/maybe happen. It says that "He's meeting" (He is meeting).... The only question that the clarification raises is about Ms. Sowers' professional ethics: Was she making it up then or is she making it up now?

Let's review what Ms. Sowers original story on November 5 tells us:
Who: Obama and the Governor
What: A meeting is is to be held.
Where: In Chicago.
When: The afternoon of November 5.
Why: To discuss the Senate replacement for President-Elect Obama.

Let's review what Ms. Hunt's original story on November 8 tells us:
Who: President-Elect Obama and the Governor
What: Had a meeting
Where: In Illinois.
When: "Earlier in the week"
Why: To discuss filling Obama's seat in the Senate.

Let's review what today's "clairification" tells us:
Who: No person, just an amorphous thing called "KHQA" which "wishes to offer."
What: A story "which discussed the appointment of a replacement for..."
Where: Somewhere "on our website."
When: Sometime "last month."
Why: "KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place." But perhaps this KHQA could ask Ms. Sowers who does (or did)...

Now recall the statement in today's "Clarification" that says, "KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place."

Well, if it KHQA had read itself on the 8th it would have that knowledge. But since the KHQA story from the 8th has now been erased from the KHQA story database I guess you cold say "KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place." But it would be more correct to say "KHQA no longer has any knowledge that any meeting ever took place. We did have that knowledge in our knowledge base but we dumped it."

Mark this as incident #56,967 of "It's not the crime, it's the coverup."

My own experience tells me that:
1) When a story containing inconvenient facts is suddenly erased from a news site with no warning, that story probably contains the truth.
2) When the removal is followed up quickly by a purging of the Google cache of the story, that story contained a very sensitive truth.
3) When, finally, a lawyeresque non-disclaimer disclaimer appears on the news site to explain the erasures, the original story is a stick of dynamite with a short fuse and the reporter is either posting her resume on Monster, or hiring security, or both.

Conclusion: Neither of the two brief stories from KHQA were important at the time they were filed. Both were just brief notices that what would normally be happening after Obama's win was happening. If you're going to be President, you have to resign the Senate and the Gov. gets to appoint your replacement. As President-elect you are going to want to have a say in that. And you will, to a point, get it.

Both stories are just commenting on Obama's calendar at the time. As such the source was most probably the campaign itself, or a person in the campaign close to local Chicago reporters. Just a couple of dull factoids that stated there was to be a meeting and yes there had been a meeting.

But yesterday, when the official Obama party line, issued by the campaign and spoken Obama himself, was that there was no meeting and discussion between Obama and the Blago., then these two unfortunate -- preciously harmless -- factoids became explosive. Explosive because they exposed the lie. And so they had to die.

I've written to both Sower and Hunt asking for comment. I'll report on any response. I doubt any response has been forthcoming. Both "reporters" have doubtless already gotten the word to be quiet "if you know what's good for you."

why would they delete the page?

who are they protecting, and why?

were they asked to do this?

if so, is this a crime, an attempt to destroy evidence?

dId obama tell fitz they didn't meet or talk, and did he lie?

if so, isn't he as guilty as scooter?

Well, that certainly clears things up.

Good grab! I've seen half a dozen references to this and quotes from it online, but although they were late in "disappearing" it it's good to have it saved here.

There is also a screeshot from that same site floating around from later that week that states that Obama and the governor had "met" to discuss this issue. The article was written by Alexis Hunt. Here is a link to the screenshot -¤t=ObamaSeat_110808.jpg .

Two junior reporters at the Washington Post have a source linking the new president to corruption on a massive scale.

There is only one question before them:

"How can we make this whole thing just go away?"

I didn't say the flashback was from this universe.

Oh, wait, it is. Never mind.

The Best and Brightest are maneuvering themselves to preside over the second coming of FDR. The biggest but by far not the only challenge they fail to recognize is that the majority of the country have become entitlement weenies.

The B & B have slaved for generations to produce the Governable Populace.

Congratulations, fucktards. Your 52% is all yours. They are about to be jobless on top of being historically illiterate and possessed of no real qualities of self reliance, ethic, or moral center.

Have fun with that.

I posted the clarification link earlier. I hate to rain on the parade. You seem to be having quite a bit of fun with it. However, I think the level of perceived nefariousness is reaching the point of overload. I live here in Quincy, IL and see these two (Ms. Sower and Hunt) on the tube occasionally. I did a brief search and no one else seems to have reported this meeting on Nov. 5. That would have been the day after the election. I doubt that Obama would have abandoned his post-election glory-basking to meet with the likes of Blago the next afternoon. To discuss his replacement? Just doesn't seem quite like him. What I speculate is that Ms. Sowers reported something she heard without confirming. Ms. Hunt did the same thing. Come on, the day after the election? It should be easy enough to find out what was on the One's schedule. It doesn't excuse the website scrubbing though.

This was the only news article I found through Yahoo that was relevant:

I'm not sure who to trust, the local CBS affiliate reporters or an AP reporter. Oh wait, I was done with that trusting reporters thing. Nevermind.

Posted by: Dan at December 10, 2008 7:09 PM

Great bit of work! There is also a video, here:
where Axelrod states that Obama "has met" with the governor regarding a replacement Senator.

Why is anyone surprised? Obama's campaign was the most corrupt in history, the media's suppression of facts about Obama was the most blatant and unseemly in history. Will this twerp suddenly mutate into the Messiah his blatantly BS campaign propaganda made him out to be, when his entire life has been spent in the cesspool of corrupt, radical left, Chicago politics?

This election and the post-election revelations is nothing more than a demonstration of how morally and intellectually corrupt this country has become. It is pitiful.

Think what you will, reliapundit. But those are the kind of comments that we like to slam the DUers for: If you don't agree with me, you must an enemy troll. Whatever.
A search on Yahoo news turned up this:
Whom to believe? The local CBS affiliate reporters or an AP reporter? Oh wait, I was done with that trusting reporters thing. Nevermind.
Again,I think the reporters reported something that didn't happen. They didn't follow up, didn't offer a correction because no one, until now, called them on it. Then they pulled the bonehead move of yanking the pages. Now they are a national new story. Ever see those Southwest Airline commercials? "Want to get away?" I'm sure they do. Badly.

President elect Obama has been a "habitual" liar from the "beginning". He has turned 180 degrees on all of the issues concerning this country.... on a daily basis, through out the campaign. "Say anything to win! God help America!

For those who doubt this, Foxnews had a picture dated November 5th, 2008 with Blog and Obama shaking hands! "NO CONTACT" stated Obama! Huh? Looks like contact THERE!

FoxNews also interviewed Axelrod who states that Obama has discussed the Senate seat replacement with Blogojovich! Axelrod just now says he was mistaken! Sure sure!

Youtube shut down the Foxnews video, but if you watch Foxnews, they are sure to play it again along with the picture of Blog and Obama shaking hands on Dec. 5.

Posted by: Pete at December 12, 2008 6:35 PM

Why would Fox News suppress the info - or for that matter why would any republican/right wing/libertarian/or other website, news outlet, blog, etc...? This info should be plastered everywhere as it clearly shows that BO lied. The problem is not the contact per se. - it is in the blatant lie.

Not to add to the conspiracy theories here but the message board at KHQA has been in "maintenance mode" for the past couple days (at least since the story broke).

Posted by: Jason at December 12, 2008 9:21 PM

I listened to Obama's news conference about Health Care reform and he sounded pretty convincing about his statements that he had no content with the Governor regarding this (Senate Seat) matter.

So, one needs to ask oneself "Does this make sense?" for if true paints Obama as somewhat incompetent for at least 2 reasons. First, this is Obama's seat, the last 2 years of his term. If I were the President-elect, I would have found it imperative to give my input if anything to safeguard the people of Illinois. The people of Illinois elected Obama in 2004 and what I assume was his campaign promises, values, etc. and I would at least want some input on any replacement. And second, as the newly elected President wouldn't want to have as many Senators as possible who share your core political believes to make passage of your legislation easier? I would suspect he would want that from both the Illinois and New York Senate seats and would hope that he or his staff would be in touch with the Governors of Illinois and New York. It's only an issue because of what Blagojevich was alleged to have done.

Which leads me to ask, “Is Obama lying”? He stated "no contact". Did he mean no discussions or no "quid pro quo" discussions? And why would Blagojevich get caught on tape saying:

"that m - - - - - f - - - - -," was willing to give nothing but "appreciation" if Blagojevich appointed Obama's friend Valerie Jarrett.

Why would Axelrod change his story? Something makes the President-elect less than forthcoming.

Posted by: Scott P at December 13, 2008 3:09 AM

Nice catch, Van. I also signed up to the message board at KHQA, but it has been in maintenance mode the entire time. Circling the wagons?

Posted by: traditionaljeff at December 13, 2008 7:20 AM

To those asking "Why lie"?

You might as well ask a vulture "Why fly to the next carrion when you could walk?"

The vulture would answer "Flying comes naturally to me, it gets me what I want faster, and rising currents of hot air make it practically effortless."

Guess where Obama gets his rising currents of hot air?

Posted by: sherlock at December 13, 2008 12:13 PM

Just curious, Axelrod wasn't corrected by Obama when he said they had spoke.

But more important, why does Axelrod have his hair cut like Adolf Hitler.

Dude, get a real haircut

He’s a Democrat. Have you noticed how the media never mentions the word Democrat now? I get the feeling that the Democrat Blago has a lot of stuff on the Democratic President elect Obama and he is holding on to his Governorship because of that. He thinks that the Democratic president elect Obama will have to save him - or else he starts singing.

It’s unbelievable that the media continues to say Democratic president elect Obama is not under investigation. He should be the number one target if Fitzgerald was really doing his job. Why should he get a pass when he is right in the middle of the scandal? It is his Senate seat that he also bought in 2002, just like he bought the President’s office for $750 billion. It also appears to me the investigation was ended early to protect Democratic president elect Obama. It also appears that Democratic president elect Obama was tipped off by the biased Tribune reporters and that is why he suddenly with drew Democrat Valerie Jarrett’s name. Fitzgerald is protecting Democratic president elect Obama and Democrat Chief of Staff Rahm(D). Are they above the law because they are Democrats? I wonder how long the Valerie Plame prosecutor will stay popular with the Democrats? The Democrat president elect Obama has already lied numerous times saying he “had no contact” and did not not know what was going on. They have the Democrat governor Blago on tape saying Democratic president elect Obama rejected the deal. That means he had contact with him one way or the other. We now know Rahm was in contact with Blago.

Well - now the transition honeymoon is officially over! Democratic president elect Obama is dirty just like the rest of the corrupt Chicago Democrats are. How long can the corrupt media protect him? Democratic president elect Obama should be the first president elect indicted for being a corrupt liar.

We now clearly see that the change Democrat president elect Obama brings to Washington is Chicago style dirty politics.

Did I mention he’s a Democrat?

Good job people! I hope there will be a lot out there who can really dig up the truth about this scandal. It's time for the Pres-elect to be a man and face this scandal with honesty and dignity.

Posted by: joy at December 15, 2008 6:52 AM

Everyone needs to remember, "it's the economy stupid".

That is going to be the escape hatch for everyone involved in this thing.

The case will be made that with ongoing turmoil in the economy and financial markets, the country can't take the body blow of a presidential scandal or consititutional crisis at this time. So for the sake of stability and everyone's well-being, Fitzgerald will not go any higher up the food chain than Blaglojevich. Rahm Emanuel most likely will walk away from Obama, thus acting as a human fire-break.

I remember very clearly during the Lewinsky scandal, an NPR interview with some idiot woman sobbing and stating that if impeachment meant a worsening economy that would hinder her ability to provide shoes for her children then she would rather the investigation/prosecution not continue.

It is just that sort of base appeal to emotion and fear that the media will employ to prop up their Wunderkind.
