"In my own life, in my own monomanical way, I have tried to take as much money and jobs and positions as I can possibly claw from this country that has given me so much, and is so willing to give me more," Michelle said. "See, that's why I left my dead-end job at a big law firm for a corrupt and high paying career in public service. But let me tell you, the plane is the best bit of gaming the government I've ever done. I can't believe you fools are actually paying for this stuff."
David Vance @ one of my favorites, JammieWearingFool brings us up to date on the woman who would be queen.
That moved me - did it move you? So, how has Michelle been getting on in her role as First Lady? Let's consider those on her staff, shall we?
To put it in context, Hillary Clinton had a staff of three, Laura Bush a staff of one. Long ago, Jacqui Kennedy had one. In these frugal recessionary times, how many has lovely Michelle? Michelle has a staff of...twenty two.
First Lady requires more than twenty attendants Here's what she pays them in this time when all Americans are being called on by the Obamas to sacrifice for the greater good. I note that this information comes to you courtesy of the Canada Free Press, rather than the press of the frothing Obamallatio addicts of America's "Free" Press:

You're being a tad culturally hegemonic. It's called a "posse."
Also, this is good news for the economy, in that Obama has "created or saved" 20 jobs right there.
Besides, everyone knows that man-to-man coverage won't work with Michelle. You need a zone defense to keep her from opening her mouth.
Posted by: Gagdad Bob at August 2, 2009 4:17 PMSo my favorite Beatle has gone off the deep end, and dedicated a song to her, according to ET-online:
"Sir Paul McCartney took to a Maryland stage to dedicate the '60s song "Michelle" to President Barack Obama's wife, according to a report.
McCartney performed in front of 60,000 fans at FedEx Field on Saturday and sang for First Lady Michelle Obama, "I love you, I love you, I love you. That's all I want to say," NBC Washington reports".

So I guess it's now Ringo or nothing when it comes to the Beatles, sheesh.
Posted by: Boots at August 2, 2009 4:50 PMNow who is financing her entourage? Is it us, the tax payers? The hell you say. If this is not a reason for me to tell the IRS I prefer to go to jail instead of paying my taxes, I do not know what else is.

Posted by: Pixelkiller at August 2, 2009 7:52 PMWhy would anyone be surprised? Those that make the biggest deal of sacrifice and serving are those that normally are the most hypocritical. Michelle suddenly was worth $300K when the One became a Senator? Dinner in new York on the tax payer when millions are being put out of work? Daughters in private school when the poor in DC have school choice ripped away from them. The hypocrisy is boundless.
Posted by: Steve MacDonald at August 3, 2009 12:30 PMIt has been said that the title of the head of state has little to do with the reality. For Larry Niven fans, witness the stories that have the Sekgen (an absolute dictator over the entire world) whose full title is "Secretary-General of the United Nations".
The President of the USA has had the trappings of an emperor for quite some time now; much more so than the Queen of the United Kingdom, for example. And the pool of "talent" from which the President is drawn is almost as limited - if you have access to less than $100,000,000 in campaign funds, don't bother trying to get elected.
Pretty soon, the President of the USA won't be called Emperor - but that's what he will be. Arguably, it's already happened. Rome fell. So can the USA. And it will. Hubris and Nemesis.

Posted by: ligneus at August 3, 2009 4:25 PMThe job titles are like a Gilbert and Sullivan opera. Found myself humming the tune of this one that I think sums up the current Administration's views on developing talent:
When I was a lad I served a term
As office boy to an Attorney's firm.
I cleaned the windows and I swept the floor,
And I polished up the handle of the big front door.
I polished up that handle so carefullee
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
CHORUS. — He polished up that handle so carefullee
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
Sir Joseph. As office boy I made such a mark
That they gave me the post of a junior clerk.
I served the writs with a smile so bland,
And I copied all the letters in a big round hand —
I copied all the letters in a hand so free,
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
CHORUS. — He copied all the letters in a hand so free,
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
Sir Joseph. In serving writs I made such a name
That an articled clerk I soon became;
I wore clean collars and a brand-new suit
For the pass examination at the Institute,
And that pass examination did so well for me,
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
CHORUS. — And that pass examination did so well for he,
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
Sir Joseph. Of legal knowledge I acquired such a grip
That they took me into the partnership.
And that junior partnership, I ween,
Was the only ship that I ever had seen.
But that kind of ship so suited me,
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
CHORUS. — But that kind of ship so suited he,
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
Sir Joseph. I grew so rich that I was sent
By a pocket borough into Parliament.
I always voted at my party's call,
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all.
I thought so little, they rewarded me
By making me the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
CHORUS. — He thought so little, they rewarded he
By making him the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!
Sir Joseph. Now landsmen all, whoever you may be,
If you want to rise to the top of the tree,
If your soul isn't fettered to an office stool,
Be careful to be guided by this golden rule —
Stick close to your desks and never go to sea,
And you all may be rulers of the Queen's Navee!
CHORUS. — Stick close close to your desks and never go to sea,
And you all may be rulers of the Queen's Navee!
When you surround yourself with second and third class people, you need a lot more of them to get the same amount of work that a first class assistant can do.
Or else Michelle is doing her part in creating jobs while her husband is out saving them
Posted by: Becky at August 3, 2009 7:00 PMWould it be terribly rude to ask if any of that income has to be kicked back to Michelle?

Those who advocate that others wear the hairshirt seem to have a lot of silk between their skin and the world.
Now, report me to the Stasi in the White House. I have impugned The Won and his wife.
