Twilight Politics

Here's a particularly apt description of the current inhabitants of the American left from American Digest commenter, Western Chauvinist:

I've been calling those on the left "vampires" because when you hold a mirror up to them, they don't begin to see themselves. I've been trying to gently explain that they're not arguing the issues, only demonizing their opponents, and they just can't/won't see it. I couldn't possibly be talking about them this way. They are the virtuous ones.

I think this is due to either narcissism (which would be unsurprising given the self-esteem movement of the last several decades) or extreme cognitive dissonance. Either way it supports the idea that liberalism (which is really leftism now) is a mental disorder. My evangelical friend says it is a spiritual disorder, which may get more to the point of the "vampire" label.

Ann Rice emerged from her Christian chrysalis only to prove that at heart, she is still a Vampire. It is all so clear to me, now. All the hateful names we are called....It's just them, looking at themselves, not seeing themselves, but us, standing aghast behind them.

That's exactly backward. Leftoids don't actually see their opposition at all; they see only themselves in the mirror.

Whenever they start shrieking about vile tactics and evil motivations in people who oppose them, they are describing their own tactics and motivations in analogous situations. They have no insight into the tactics and motivations of their opponents because they can't see opponents, only their own souls in mirrors and on projection screens.

Nancy Pelosi calls for investigation of the people behind opposition to the Cordoba House project. Her default assumption is that they are hired shills and doers of political dirty tricks, because if the situation were reversed she would send shills and dirty-tricksters in a heartbeat -- it wouldn't be a question of "whether", only of "how much can we spend?"

They have plenty of mirrors. What they don't have is windows.

They see through themselves, and absolve themselves of all blame.

Leftists as vampires is apt in another way:

Metaphorically they don't like to come out in the light of day. This would require them to operate in the open and do things like petition for Constitutional Amendments instead of relying on judges, and to abide by the results of voter referendums. They've always known that the general public would see them for what they really are if they weren't duplicitous. Our tax money is their life-sustaining blood.

Dennis Prager does more to understand, describe, liberals than most any other public figure. Check out his recent column at

Dennis Prager studied the marxist/communist world and is a very talented Jewish theologian.

care to be more specific about the objective, verifiable statements of truth you disclose, that they refuse to acknowledge? who knows? it might come down to a simple misunderstanding about the meaning you intend to convey with the words "faggot", "treason", "communist", or what have you.

Excuse me, but who or what are you addressing here?

Posted by: vanderleun at August 22, 2010 6:24 PM

Oh, Gerard. Our friend the misanthrope is just trying out irony. See, unlike the normative left ("in contradistinction to Republicans, we don't believe children should go to bed hungry at night" - Howard Dean; (AP) Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid called President Bush "a loser" during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school), it is really the normative right which is known for name-calling and vulgarity. You know, like "teabagger" (Anderson Cooper et al) and the Buck Fush bumper sticker.

He's right about us. When I'm "gently" addressing my leftish friends at my Catholic parish, I'm always sure to throw out terms like "faggot", "traitor" and "communist" because I find it really helps convince them of my argument.

Shout it out now! - Give me a "V"! Give me an "A"! Give me an "M"! Give me a "P"!... get the picture.

One of the best and quickest ways to make to make a commie-lib appear foolish is to ask them to explain the conservative view on something. Commie-libs live in such a tight bubble they don`t know what an opponent is arguing. It holds true for any topic. Our snail-like commenter posting the faggot comment is exhibit A. We do not want Epa regulating CO2 because we have secret air supplies. We do not like minimum wage laws because we all have sweatshops in our garage. We do not like freeing felons because we are racist. Because commie-libs have no ideas based on reason and argument. neither does anyone else. Because commie-libs decide all issues based on emotion and race\gender\class then everyone does. They do not know our reasons because they haven't received permission to listen to anyone outside the party.

Oh, they look foolish and think themselves wiser for it. They have conservatism boiled down to one trait: Hatred. If you question anything, it's all intolerance and hatred. That's how they used to shut us up. It doesn't work anymore. We realized they have been shooting blanks. Really loud blanks, but blanks, never the less.
