Stand and Be Recognized
THIS MORNING I am both pleased and grateful to find that my essay, On the Return of History , has been recognized by The Watchers' Council as the best non-council essay of the last week.
This is especially gratifying because the council is an association of pages that, alone or in aggregate, consistently deliver facts and opinons of the first water. Here's a brief selection from them:
- The Sundries Shack pleads for mercy in America: "Is there no one who can stop Jimmy Carter from opening his yap in public? ...."
- Gates of Vienna looks at those who sing, I'm a Terrorist Groupie, Hear Me Roar! "In Hollywoodistan, gays admire the beauty of the Koran. In real life, gays are physically attacked in increasing numbers by Muslims in Europe...."
- Dr Sanity in NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED looks at the perversity of "peace activists: "Not only do they shirk their own responsibility for events, but these champions of the oppressed, have enabled and protected those who casually murdered and tortured one of their own (and undoubtedly will do the same to future captives)."
- The Glittering Eye examines American foreign policy in an age of proximity.
- Rhymes With Right suggests we treat our illegal aliens in the same way that Mexico treats theirs.
- New World Man in How not to deter terrorists asks: "What does deter men who want to kill themselves committing terrorist acts against the United States? It wouldn't be the threat of death.
- ShrinkWrapped extends the series Shame, Aggression, & Demographic Suicide
- Right Wing Nut House looks at forthcoming films in DREAMS AND MYTHS: HOLLYWOOD AND 9/11 "Ultimately, the success or failure of U-93 will hinge on the ability of the American people to embrace the tragedy as a part of our history and not shun it because the memory of that day lingers in the shadow world of nightmare."
- Joshuapundit sings The Immigrant Song: the USA, abortion and the debate on illegal immigration "The problem here is that an entire subculture has been allowed to flourish that has everything to do with the further balkanizing and racially splitting American society and nothing to do with mainstreaming and integrating people.... "
- Education Wonks in "La Raza" In California's "Imperial" Valley - Thoughts And Ideas Freely Exchanged finds it interesting, "that the students seem to always insist on doing their protests during school hours. I imagine that there would be much less interest in marching down a hot desert highway on a Saturday morning."
- At Done With Mirrors, Callimachus says 'Yes,but...:' -- "Yes, there's much to criticize here, in our government and our culture. But when you reveal your complaint is more about some sort of personal psychodrama than it is about political consciousness and a desire to improve the world, then why should I take you seriously?"

Gerard's writings are wonderful free lessons in the art of words, and testaments to the superiority of the english language.
The periodic recognitions he receives are great, but the most remarkable thing, and a tough one to properly reward, is the sheer volume and pace of his work. No one else is turning out stellar pieces so consistently or so fast. It's hard to decide if I love him or hate him for his talent, but easy to appreciate and applaud the hard work and dedication showcased here.
A pleasure to see a virtuoso performance. A privilege indeed to be able to count on it. Nice going, Gerard!
