Joe, you fuming heap of fetid brain porridge, it really is just you.

The government sent me a check for eight grand? Who knew? $8,000, you don’t say? Eight THOUSAND dollars deposited in my scant bank account? I’m going to have some strong words for the manager down at my Bank of America come Monday. What about you?

PLEASE. . .
AND THANK YOU!

Eight thousand dollars? I would spend it on more high-end audio gear and many more books—though I don’t know where I’d put them. And my new bicycle—my 3rd, a Trek Checkpoint gravel bike—will need some work. I would also drink a better class of wine than Vella or Franzia. And maybe get that Taurus .357 Magnum I have been eyeing.

So Biden: Where’s my dough you lying, demented, pedophilic, rancid sack of shit?

    • ThisIsNotNutella July 30, 2022, 7:47 PM

      High-end Audio Gear you say?

In the spirit of fairness given that I’m wont to kick the dead horse of American Industry almost as much as I deride the syphilitic $2 whore that is USGov, let me put in a plug for a company which bucks the trend: Dan Clark Audio.

Dan the Man is an engineer’s engineer and makes one of the best headphones money can buy: the DCA Stealth. $8,000 BidenBucks should be just enough to buy a pair and an almost peer-less (except for a few less photogenic Chi-Fi products at ~1/3 the cost) American-made Benchmark HPA4 to power them.

      • Mike Austin July 30, 2022, 8:04 PM

I don’t use headphones. I don’t regard them as hi-end audio. Some audiophiles do though.

Look up Magnepan 3,3 speakers to get an idea of how I listen.

        • ThisIsNotNutella July 30, 2022, 9:26 PM

With Hong Kong real estate prices I’d have to take up organ trafficking to afford the space to go behind ribbon speakers.

          • Mike Austin July 31, 2022, 4:03 AM

I do not compromise in my pursuit of audio excellence. Why should I? My entire “living room” in my small apartment is geared toward my audio gear: the furniture, the walls, the use of audio tiles—everything. My Magnepans are pulled away from the back wall almost to my sitting area. If you would hear it, you would understand immediately. The word ethereal comes to mind.

I have been an audiophile for 45 years. My audio philosophy is simple: tubes, bi-amping, vinyl and Magnepan. Case closed.

I am the same way with books, bicycles, bread baking and gourmet cooking. If a man is going to pursue something, go all in or don’t go at all.

It is the same way with women. And with God. All or nothing. Take it or leave it.

Lukewarm is for children. Half-way is a waste of time.

            • Dirk July 31, 2022, 7:02 AM

Speakers are an acquired taste, I’ve got Maggie’s, their stored in the back room. Great speaks when set up properly. I can’t get two albums to sound the same out of em.

Head phones, again an acquired taste. Not knocking em, have very high end sets from back in the day. I’ve owned lots and lots of speakers, I seem to al2ays migrate back to Klipsch Cornwalls. It’s all in ones ear.

Your “ rig” is really nice.

              • ghostsniper July 31, 2022, 8:19 AM

We all like what we like and we each believe our stuff is the best, and it is. To each of us. I’m sure I’d like Mike’s rig, and yours Dirk, and you guys might like mine. But we’d all still like what we have and go home to the same.

In the 70’s I got into a headphone groove and bought up everything in sight and have most of them still. Mainly Koss, mainly high end. My Koss Phase 2+2’s are the cream of the crop (I have 2 sets) and I believe they are still the finest headphones ever created. Why? Take a look at this pik:
                https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0525/9608/0813/files/Phase2-2.jpg

                Notice the remote controller?
That little device has the power to transform how you listen to music and does what all speaker systems strive to do. It will put you in the picture. That’s right.

You will stand on the imaginary stage where the vox is, and you will be surrounded by all the other persons making the music. The drummer will be behind you, the vocalist will be right in front of you, and all of the other players will surround you. And, you can change them around as you see fit. It’s uncanny.

If, say, you are listening to a familiar song and there is a spot where the bass player shines, you can hit a button and he takes center stage and you will hear his playing with such clarity that you never heard before. When his part is done just hit the button and he goes back to his normal place. Or, let him be and enjoy his fingers squeaking on the slide notes, that you never heard before in your life.

The Phase 2+2’s will also act like “normal” headphones if you want. But once you cross that line I described it is difficult to go back to normal. 2+2 is just so much better. Think of the first time you experienced, not just heard, a high end set of speakers connected to an equally high end system. Going back to one of them all-in-one rigs is almost impossible.

Having said all of that, sitting here with my Pioneer RT1020 10″ reel to reel and Pioneer SX1250 receiver running through the full tower of accompaniments and ending up in those 4 Pioneer HPM100 speakers (1st Gen) is pure nirvana to me and it just don’t git no better’n that. Period.

With some downtime for maintenance and repair (new caps, resolder cracked solder joints, blown dash lights, etc.) every 10 years or so this has been my go-to method of stress relief for more than 40 years. I’ll own it all til I die.

                • Mike Austin July 31, 2022, 10:56 AM

A properly set-up reel-to-reel provides an astounding audio experience. Problem is that the sources for them cost upwards of $50 and up—way up.

              • Mike Austin July 31, 2022, 10:53 AM

Magnepans, like beautiful women, take a long time and a large infusion of cash to set up properly. They enjoy power; one hundred watts per channel will not cut it. Mine run on 600 watts from solid state monoblock amps for the lows and mid-range, and a 100 watt tube stereo amp for the highs.

My DAC is tube, my pre-amp is tube, and I have two turntables, one of which is a horizontal tracking Rabco ST-8; the other is a Rega Planar 6.

                Audio Nirvana.

                • Dr. Jay July 31, 2022, 1:51 PM

Mine’s a full Denon integrated Amplifier, CD, Cassette, CD recorder system . . . toped off with a Fluance turntable. Custom speakers (I have a friend in the business).

On another subject: If You Haven’t Seen This You Must Watch Now… Trust Me. https://twitter.com/anogy/status/1553225233670307840?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1553225233670307840%7Ctwgr%5E2006edeba997e2f383c88538e44ae3b342a294de%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fiotwreport.com%2Ftrust-me-if-you-havent-seen-this-you-must-watch-now-trust-me%2F

Dr. Jay: Denon amps and Fluance turntables are works of audio art. Simply beautiful, form and function together.

I loved the video. Damn right.

                • Dirk July 31, 2022, 6:09 PM

Require power, agree, I have several of both Tube amps and Pre amps, and non tube units Amps and pre amps. I’m just a tube amp guy, many of my tube amps are 40 or less watts per Channel. A couple are -20 pure magic.

Ghost your rigs an outstanding rig, I’m not knocking anybodies kit,,,,,Mike and me have had this chat before, I’m Not a DAC guy, he is. Right on.

I’m not wanting computerized music, I want the true intent of the individual bands music.

Dac’s a hell of a system can be wonderful. End of the day we’re all wanting awesome music, some of us have gone to great lengths, and large amounts of money to achieve our goals.

I have Conrad Johnson high end gear, the amp and pre are in boxes I have Macintosh gear, on loan to our neighbors.

I have David Berning tube gear. Set up wired to Klipsch Corns, “stacked”. Klipsch corner horns, four ft tall, three ft wide,140/150 pounds each. Like your Maggie’s speaker placement is critical, power is king.

The charming Mrs.Williams isn’t going to let me place em in the center of the living room. When you find the sweet spot,,,,,,,,o my god magic!

I listen to a couple Scott 299c ‘s,,,,,,and a Harmon Kardon Citition I, II, III. “ needs some love right now”

I’ve got four Delquist 10s, another amazing sets of speakers.

                  I’ve got six Warfdale 90s,
6 Warfdale 70s, out of England. Other then the 90s, in my garage, I’ve never seen Warfdale 90s. Rare birds indeed.

Stromburg Carlsons integrated amps, another low watt magic.the however the turntable outputs weak, I’ve had em upgraded.

A rare unit, a Pilot, tube integrated amp.

Listen to what you have, make it work for you. I’m having a set of Dynaco Mono Blocs being upgraded right now.mk3/4s.

have several Dynaco tube amps and pre amps needing some love. Vintage stereo has gone stupid expensive anymore. I saw this coming, I spent 20k, call it investments. Now I don’t want to get ride of this stuff, it’s amazing stuff.

Gerard, I promised you a tube stereo, five years ago,,,,,after you lost everything. That offer still stands.

I actually had to go thru the closet and garage stereo sections, Fun conversation for me.

                  • Mike Austin August 1, 2022, 9:04 AM

Dirk and Ghost: You guys know your audio stuff!

With speaker placement, if the wife says no, it’s no. The “wife acceptance factor” is very low with audio. Being a confirmed bachelor, I set up my system in any way that pleases me. My last girlfriend was an audiophile herself. We lasted longer together than any wife or other girlfriend I ever had. She recently got married—to another audiophile!

As a foreigner and PRC Shill, I demand precedence over mere US Citizens and Tax-farmed Cattle.

    So where’s my $8,888 please?

  • jwm July 30, 2022, 7:40 PM

    So wait.
I’m getting eight grand from dear Uncle Joe?
What a swell President! I take back all the bad shit I said about him.
Unless I don’t get my eight grand.

    JWM

  • Nori July 30, 2022, 8:49 PM

“We were able to send them a check for 8 grand, beyond that by the way…”

Joe’s spongiform brain blathering reveals interesting threads. He and his ilk are so accustomed to no consequences for their actually revealing the truth, they have no fear of telling it.

Gee,I wonder who got those $8ooo beyond that by the way checks?
Certainly not the American tax slaves who funded them.

  • Snakepit Kansas July 31, 2022, 6:07 AM

    With $8K I’d buy 16K rounds of .223.

  • John the River July 31, 2022, 6:58 AM

I’m more concerned about five figure losses in my retirement accounts since the beginning of the year.
If I’m lucky I won’t live too long and run out of money.

  • Bill in Tennessee July 31, 2022, 6:59 AM

If I HAD received $8K, I would have immediately exchanged it for $4K in silver bullion and $4K of ammo. But seriously, folks…. I’ve talked to many people suffering from dementia over my lifetime, and they were no different from what I see in this video.

  • Dirk July 31, 2022, 7:04 AM

Fuck, he thinks 8 k will buy my loyalty. Shit his kids and brother are raking in billions with a B. Fuck that clown.

To add to the conversation about federal payouts, are you aware that Montana’s newly elected R governor withheld the last series of payouts? You can read about it here:

How does a state gov, hold back Fed bribes? Interesting article.

Another pantload, like we’ve come to expect.
