It’s Okay to Sing White

This one goes out to Emma Jean who saved my life… and then saved my life. And who has managed to put up with me longer than both my marriages put together.

Looks like we made it
Look how far we’ve come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we’d get there someday

They said, “I bet they’ll never make it”
But just look at us holding on
We’re still together still going strong

You’re still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You’re still the one I want for life
(You’re still the one)
You’re still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You’re still the one I kiss good night

Ain’t nothin’ better
We beat the odds together
I’m glad we didn’t listen
Look at what we would be missin’

They said, I bet they’ll never make it
But just look at us holding on
We’re still together, still going strong

You’re still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You’re still the one I want for life
(You’re still the one)

You’re still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You’re still the one I kiss goodnight

You’re still the one

Yeah (you’re still the one)
You’re still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You’re still the one I want for life
(You’re still the one)

You’re still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You’re still the one I kiss goodnight
I’m so glad we made it
Look how far we’ve come my baby

    “It’s Okay to Sing White”
    ======
    Well, yeah, unless you’re not.
Only an idiot would think otherwise.

Strings. Oh, those angelic strings. Harmony. Lyrics.
This is what John C Wright would call “superversive” (the opposite of of subversive).
And I’d note that if all the power went out tomorrow this song could still be performed exactly as is.
    Great stuff.

As long as we are talking the British Diaspora and its music, here are the Rankins, natives of Mabou, Cape Breton back in the old country. The gals from left to right are Heather, Raylene and Cookie Rankin, with the family blend.

My brother, occasional commenter BlogDog, has died of a massive stroke and complications from a fall down the stairs. Posting this here because he was a big fan of American Digest, in fact he was the one who put me on to the Best Site on the Internet. So thanks for all your posting, Gerard. You brought him a lot of joy and wonderment, and thanks to brother, me as well. Ave atque vale.

    Dear Phil,
May God hold your brother in the palm of his hand.

    Yours truly,
    Gerard

How lovely! It makes my heart glad to know you have someone out there to dedicate this song to, Gerard.

Phil, though a stranger, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. May God welcome him home, and may He grant you solace until the day you meet him again, on the other side.

Thank you Gerard. That wonderful performance was welcome home to me in this time of rather bad news, non stop.

Geez, Phil. I’m so sorry. Your brother will be in my prayers every night for the duration.

Phil, I am so sorry for your loss. May your brother enjoy the Presence of the Heavenly Father forevermore.

Gerard, I played this song to my husband when we had reached our tenth wedding anniversary. We celebrated our twenty-fifth last May, and the coronavirus be damned. He’s still the one. Of course, we’re not getting any younger, so… well…

Well, Gerard, Emma Jean’s heart should be filled by the love you display in posting this ode to her care for your life. A fortunate woman, I’d say.

@Phil – My condolences, Phil, and thanks for sharing your and your brother’s love and admiration for Gerard’s contributions to our lives.
