Not Man Apart
Then what is the answer?– Not to be deluded by dreams.
To know that great civilizations have broken down into violence,
and their tyrants come, many times before.
When open violence appears, to avoid it with honor or choose
the least ugly faction; these evils are essential.
To keep one’s own integrity, be merciful and uncorrupted
and not wish for evil; and not be duped
By dreams of universal justice or happiness. These dreams will
not be fulfilled.
To know this, and know that however ugly the parts appear
the whole remains beautiful. A severed hand
Is an ugly thing and man dissevered from the earth and stars
and his history… for contemplation or in fact…
Often appears atrociously ugly. Integrity is wholeness,
the greatest beauty is
Organic wholeness, the wholeness of life and things, the divine beauty
of the universe. Love that, not man
Apart from that, or else you will share man’s pitiful confusions,
or drown in despair when his days darken.

Where the Sidewalk Ends
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Saw a recipe this week for chicken fried steak, which I will be making soon. I don’t know when she posted the video originally, but the price of beef takes it far beyond her estimated 50 cents per serving. It would be nice to be able to do a beef shoulder, but it would have to be an extremely special occasion at this point.
FJB.
Take a look at Cowboy Ken’s take on CFS, blows the other one away.
Plus, she takes half an hour to say 10 mins worth of stuff.
Thanks Ghost, I will check it out. I had pretty much forgotten chicken fried steak was a thing until somebody linked that video. She does spend an awful lot of time talking; I watched it all the way through because she had some helpful info, but having seen it once all I need now is the recipe basics.
Chicken Fried Steak is the Holy Meal.
I can’t believe the dog all preoccupied with a stick when that beef is right there. Most dogs would be slobbering all over the place for a taste of that.
JWM
However, the dog was full. Chef just completed and fed Fido a deep fried cat.
Two extra eternities in the flames for that image, Snakepit.
Spoon licking hound. He’ll get his.
Transcaucasian wife is not impressed
I just saw a piece of meat like this at the grocery store for $38. Will wait until the butcher can’t sell it–he will grind it up for burger and I will buy hamburger for $6.00/pound yippee what a deal!
I know what you mean but so far the butchers in Chico, CA have no trouble selling steak at that price. Just not to everybody.
