The Swedes like their 6.5 on moose. Once/twice a year a hunter will get the hell kicked out of him by what he mistook for one in denouement.
In my experience of one meal lousy eatin’.
Magic
Always run away downhill from a moose. In trees, if at all possible. Cut the direction closest to a climb able tree once he/ she piles up.
Moms with calves make bears look mild, especially if you surprise them. Like stalking close enough to use a disposable camera. And forgetting to disable the flash.
Downhill. In trees, not brush.
We’re I to stumble onto a White moose or, well anything animal in the wild, I’d truly feel blessed. Some ass hole will shoot it.
Somewhere I saw a pic of two white killer whales swimming together yesterday. Amazing. God truly does magnificent work.
The 6.5mm is a fine caliber and it will kill anything but it’s still comparable to a .270. It’s strong and quick and sure, you can use a 6.5 on moose, but it’s more of a deer and antelope cartridge that will shine at longer ranges.
I’ve never hunted moose or elk but if I did I believe that I’d prefer, at the very least, a .30-06 with 200-220 grain Partitions because they are much more humane and you might bumble into an aggressive bear.
As for the albino moose, nope, I wouldn’t think of killing him. Moose of Color (MOC) deserve special treatment.
Jack, absolutely agree with your observation on the 3006. Ideal for the man/woman who only wants one gun, capable of doing it all. Quit hunting years ago, prefer observing wildlife in their habitat. Don’t disagree that hunting’s needed.
Here, between the bear coyotes and wolves, we’ve seen a marked reduction in deer antelope and elk. But then isn’t that how it is.
I got a kick out of watching a moose appear in the filed, and 500 yards upfield the bucks jumped up and ran like hell. Moose=authority. I one time had a cow moose in the same field as I, about 300 yards away. She did that thing where they stop, and regard you from one side of their head.
Don’t mess with moose. Tmj Utah knows.
