Daylight Savings Time Sunday Sunrise Sermon: Some of It

When I think of all I didn’t know then and compare it to what I know now I’m disappointed to see I haven’t made much headway at all.

Beer don’t keep
Love’s not cheap
And trucks don’t wreck themselves
Mama ain’t a shrink
Daddy ain’t a bank
And God ain’t a wishin’ well
Money ain’t rich
Everybody sins
And nobody wins in a fight
And sometimes wrong is right

Some of it you learn the hard way
Some of it you read on a page
Some of it comes from heartbreak
Most of it comes with age
And none of it ever comes easy
A bunch of it you maybe can’t use
I know I don’t probably know what I think I do
But there’s something to some of it

Girls like to laugh
Tears don’t last
And scared’s what praying’s for
If it’s close, swing the bat
Everybody’s gotta past
And love’s worth living for
When you dance, hold her close
‘Til it breaks, go for broke
Be the first to reach for her hand
No, you don’t get to do some things again

Some of it you learn the hard way
Some of it you read on a page
Some of it comes from heartbreak
Most of it comes with age
And none of it ever comes easy
A bunch of it you maybe can’t use
I know I don’t probably know what I think I do
But there’s something to some of it

When you can take it slow
‘Cause time sure won’t
What really makes you a man
Is being true to her ’til your glass runs out of sand

Some of it you learn the hard way
Some of it you read on a page
Some of it comes from heartbreak
Most of it comes with age
And none of it ever comes easy
A bunch of it you maybe can’t use
I know I don’t probably know what I think I do
But there’s something to some of it
Some of it

Sometimes, somebody says it just right. Thanks for posting this.

  • Missy November 3, 2019, 5:29 AM

    Yeah.

  • Red in OleVirginny November 3, 2019, 7:15 AM

Nope- this guy slammed the NRA and people like me. He said we are the problem and we shouldn’t own that many guns and ammo. Look it up.
He’s a punk – I wouldn’t listen to him for free in my backyard.
No compromise with commies Eric – you ain’t learned that boy? FOAD

    Nice song,heartfelt words.

But I’m with Red on this guy. Church was at the Harvest Festival in Vegas, two days before the lunatic/patsy Paddock murdered so many. I can understand him being shaken up,but blaming the NRA,bumpstocks, and gun show “loopholes” is embracing commie talking points.

Country boys are generally smarter than that.

  • ghostsniper November 3, 2019, 12:56 PM

    See it yourself:

Though Church is a gun owner himself, he argues that automatic and semi-automatic weapons fall outside the parameters of what the Second Amendment’s freedoms allow.

“[The Second Amendment]’s in the Constitution, it’s people’s right, and I don’t believe it’s negotiable,” he explains. “But nobody should have that many guns and that much ammunition and we don’t know about it. Nobody should have 21 AKs and 10,000 rounds of ammunition and we don’t know who they are. Something’s gotta be done so that a person can’t have an armory and pin down a Las Vegas SWAT team for six minutes. That’s f–ked up.”

So he’s pretty good at making music – thanks, Gerard.
Being good at that gives his emotional half-baked opinion no more weight than that of anyone else, and less than those who actually make sense on the pro 2A side. Pity about that. He’d have done better to keep it to himself.

Real art tends to come through the man regardless of the man.

  • ghostsniper November 3, 2019, 5:32 PM

If you read the whole thing at the link you’ll see the dood is a simple parrot.
THAT is his core. His art is secondary to that. Yes, he should have kept his yap shut, but arrogancy will have it’s way.

  • Nori November 3, 2019, 7:18 PM

Precisely. He’s simply parroting what his handlers have provided him. He’s a very successful artist. He’s awash in more $$$ than most will ever see.

    His art Will be Televised.
Buy it. Now. Along with his opinions.

It a purdy song & while not the deepest well of wisdom, worth sipping from.

  • Vanderleun November 4, 2019, 9:47 AM

The back story to the way the song actually got into the world.

Some Of It by Eric Church – Songfacts

The song almost didn’t make Desperate Man album, but with the encouragement of his wife, Katherine, Church decided to cut it at the last minute. He recalled:

“I was playing the album for a dear friend of ours, and my wife was with me… This person loved the album, but my wife said, ‘But let me play you what didn’t make it.’ The first thing she played was ‘Some of It.’ And I hadn’t listened to it in a while, and it was always a favorite song of mine. It’s why it was the first one we took in, and I listened to it that night and I’m like…I’m gonna regret if I don’t record this song,”

So Church called his manager that night. He told him even though the record was essentially done, “I gotta do this. I gotta cut this song.”

I laugh at the occasional media display of guns and ammo when the cops arrest some thug. Why Church or anyone else would worry about the number of guns someone owns or how much ammunition they have is absurd. A person can effectively shoot one gun at a time (with the exception of Hollywood) so if they have two or 100, it matters not. Similar thing with ammunition. Try to carry around more than 500 rounds of most any caliber (besides .22LR) and you are going to have a very heft load.

    I want me an M-60.

  • Vanderleun November 5, 2019, 9:11 AM

Now that’s a sane point I’ve never seen articulated that way. Of course when you think back on the Vegas shooter and his days of moving trunks and suitcases into his room it all adds up, don’t it.

  • ghostsniper November 5, 2019, 12:50 PM

@Snake, as far as the 60 goes, I liked shooting it but didn’t care much for carrying it. Pushing 600 rds a minute down range invigorates your blood pressure.

If you know something about guns and read the write up on wiki about that vegas shooter you’ll quickly see that none of it adds up. 14 .223’s with 100 rd drums? Why? As Snake said, you can only shoot 1 at a time. Bumpstocks? Why? They inherently make any gun they are installed on almost worthless due to inaccuracy. The bumpstock causes the AR15 to simulate full automatic shooting, emptying a 30 rd mag in less than 10 seconds. I never owned nor fired a bumpstock but I have fired an M16 on full automatic many times. I was army qualified as an Expert with the M16 but was never able to hit a human size target at 100 yds in full auto mode. In semi auto mode I could hit the same target at 300 yds 75% of the time. The media has caused people with little knowledge and/or experience to piss themselves as they’ve been trained to do.

A standard ammo can holds about 1000 rds of loose .223 and weighs over 20 pounds. How many ammo cans can you get in a standard trunk, 10? So that’s 200 lbs. How do you get that trunk out of your vehicle? And then up to your hotel room on the 7th floor? Fork lift? That supposed shooter was older and portly so 200 pounds was very heavy to him. 30 yo gov’t agents can handle that stuff much better. Once again, the narrative doesn’t match the available facts. Blatantly and obviously but that put that stuff out there knowing full well almost all of it is complete fabrication.

Hey its your BBQ and darn good free feed too, G.

I could care less what some artist thinks about politics, but defend my right to say “shut up and sing, dixie chick” in jest.

That dont mean I’m pissin’ in yer beans, sir…
