So long Glenn. See you a little further down the road. We’ll know where to look for you on the main road.
“I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main road
Searchin’ in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin’ in the wire, I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
I know I need a small vacation but it don’t look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south won’t ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line”

Meh. Too square. lol
But RIP, sorry it went like it did.
He’ll have his feet up in the A list lounge of R&R Heaven. And Country. And Pop.
I think when the poll is taken of surviving musicians, his name is spoken in reverent chords. Even I could see his talent.
Thanks,Glen. For playing that guitar with such love. We heard you then and will forever.
Absolutely the BEST. Sad at what took him out. So avoidable. Grateful I got to see him perform. This past year Jimmy Webb did a tour honoring his musical relationship with Glen. It was outstanding!
The worst of it is that he knew it was coming. He wrote one last song while he still had his faculties called I Won’t Miss You. Knowing what it’s about, if that song doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, you are a heartless, soulless bastard.
Thanks, Galway Boy, that made me go a-YouTubin’. Found it:
Glenn Campbell’s last song
OMG, it’s 1968, I’m in love with Joanna and we are listening to that song and Clouds by Judy Collins over and over again. Is it 50 years already?
For anyone that cares, the city of Wichita is not in Wichita County. OK, nobody cares.
Like Kansas City is actually in Missouri. Curve ball to keep the confusion at the proper level.
I blame the tornadoes, all that spinning.
With the exception of two years in Asia, I have lived near Xenia OH (massive devastation in ’72) or Wichita KS all my life. I have seen only one tornado in all that time. Yes, it was about a mile wide and ripped up everything for about 20 miles, and killed over 20 people, but only one.
There is a Kansas City, KS, but not the same town that hosts the mighty CHIEFS!
Mediocre guitarist, decent vocalist.
I have about 8 of his songs.
