Boomer Dancing: Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress — The Hollies

Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high
Bootlegging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the DA man
When I heard this woman singing a song
A pair of moneybags made me open my eyes
My temperature started to rise

She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5’9″ beautiful ‘n’ tall
Just one look I was a bad mess
‘Cause that long cool woman had it all

Woo!

I saw her heading to the table
Well, a tall walking big black cat
Charlie said, “I hope that you’re able, boy
‘Cause I’m telling you she knows where it’s at”
Suddenly we hear the sirens
Everybody started to run
Jumping under doors and tables
Well, I heard somebody shooting a gun
Well, the DA was pumping my left hand
She was holding my right
Well, I told her, “Don’t get scared
‘Cause you’re gonna be spared
I’m gonna be forgiven if I wanna spend my living”
With a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5’9″ beautiful ‘n’ tall
Just one look I was a bad mess
‘Cause that long cool woman had it all

She had it all, she had it all, she had it all
She had it all
You got it all, you got it all, you got it all
You got it all, got it all, got it all, got it all
Pretty long cool woman had it all

uh, that isn’t the song they used in the film. sooooo, they are not dancing to the song in this video. not sure what the point of over dubbing a different song into a dance scene is?

    • Carter Duchesney January 7, 2022, 4:56 AM

I agree. People put any old crap on Youtube and think they are being creative.

      • LP January 7, 2022, 3:43 PM

Oye vey. I like the song, it seems to sync with the dance, and I think Travolta is pretty agile there, but they both kind of creep me out. Especially her. I’m not sure why Travolta creeps me out less. Whatever.

he put the moves on a co-worker of mine, to no avail. handsome kid.

I was grossed out by that movie. I didn’t understand it’s theme or anything about it. It struck me as odd that anyone would write and direct such a thing. I’m honestly asking; am I wrong? Was there a purpose in this that I missed?

    • Boat Guy January 7, 2022, 7:51 AM

Purpose? Money for a Hollywood dweeb.
Loved the song the first time I heard it. And every other time since

Tarantino films leave me cold. I would guess that they are an acquired taste. One either enjoys them or not. Tarantino himself said in an interview that he had “issues”. What those were he did not say.

I thought Salma was screamin’ hot in DTD.

…Tarantino himself said in an interview that he had “issues”…..

One of Tarantino’s “issues” is that he has a thing about women’s feet. I can’t think of any of his recent movies (as illustrated by that scene from Pulp Fiction) that doesn’t have a barefoot woman somewhere.

        • Mike Austin January 7, 2022, 11:23 AM

Dick Morris—once a bosom buddy of Bill Clinton—also had a thing with women’s feet. I thought he chose the wrong part of a female’s anatomy. Anyway, media guys and politicos often reveal in public far too much about themselves. It is embarrassing—or should be.

        • gwbnyc January 7, 2022, 11:57 AM

John Ford had a thing for Ward Bond’s keester.

        • Gordon Scott January 7, 2022, 12:35 PM

Foot fetish, eh? Had not realized that, but now that I know, I can see it in other movies.

Tarantino makes some great movies. Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is a great movie. Inglorious Bastards is pretty good also, while being utterly a wisttul splatter movie with Nazis instead of teenagers.

Tarantino himself has . . . issues. But so does Woody Allen, and I like most of his movies. And even Spielberg, a golden child if there ever was one, is capable of such clanging anchors as the remake of West Side Story with long scenes in Spanish. No subtitles, because that wouldn’t respect the integrity of the culture or some such shit.

          • JustMe January 7, 2022, 12:51 PM

I have a “knee” fetish. I like a womans knees up around my armpits rocking back and forth to the beat of the song “Staying Alive”.

          • Mike Austin January 7, 2022, 12:58 PM

Woody Allen seduced his own step-daughter when she was a teenager and collected nude photos of her. That kinda-sorta turns me off about him and all of his “art”. And Spielberg? Research what happened to Heather O’Rourke. She died at 12 years of age. What killed her? Take my advice: Do not go there. And why did Spielberg want to imply pedophilia into the first Indiana Jones movie by making Marion 14 when she was first seduced by Indiana?

There is more—much more. But again: Don’t go there. Remember Hamlet: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

            Don’t go there.

            Tarantino and feet….
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2PffQHud7Y
Yeah, I can kinda see where some might think that this is kinky-weird, but that said, a woman possesses all sorts of beauty, and if Tarantino has a thing about women’s feet, then so be it. I do know that no one wants to look at men’s feet. That just ain’t right.

While this is more of a movie-maker’s trademark than a fetish that makes it onto film, Speilberg films have their common “tics” too: He almost always has a scene where the action is filmed in a mirror.

Sam Fuller always had a character in his films named “Griff” that got killed.

    • gwbnyc January 7, 2022, 8:13 AM

Ringo: “Is that what I think it is?”
      Jules: “Um hmm.”

For those who like the Hollies and beautiful women in a black dress without the dancing go here:

This one is not a feminist. The real . . . thing. An exquisite example of two legged beauty.

    • Mike Austin January 7, 2022, 9:23 AM

Stunningly beautiful. High maintenance—obviously—but worth it.

  • Doctor Septimus Pretorious January 7, 2022, 4:42 PM

The British band, the Hollies, did a fine pilfering of John Fogerty’s Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 1969 version of “Green River” .
Fogerty got 1/2 proceeds in a latter plagiarism lawsuit from Hollies.
Thus methinks this vid would equally be interesting to the Green River track.

I thought it was a pair of 45’s.

    • gwbnyc January 7, 2022, 9:36 PM

she burst through the the doors with a pair of fourty-fours …and a gun in each hand.

  • Nori January 7, 2022, 7:21 PM

Wonderful tune, and very danceable. Uma and John seemed kind of subdued, but maybe that was the intent. Not a big fan of Tarantino, but he does have talent. He wrote “From Dusk till Dawn”, and played the skeevy Richie Gecko. Superb vampire flick, with a terrific cast. Salma Hayek’s snake dance as Santanico Pandemonium could revive a dead man;the look on Juliet Lewis’ face during the dance is priceless.

“Working for the FBI”. Our taxpayer dollars;paid informants, then and now.

    No matter,it’s a great,great song.

  • James ONeil January 8, 2022, 9:53 AM

Song brings back memories, sorry, not sharable.
