Boomer Anthems: Summer’s Here and the Time is Right for Dancing in the Street

Yes, yes, yes… I was loyal for many years to Martha and the Vandellas, but then….. along came Atomic Kitten and there was just something about them — especially on the left.

Then again, if you are a classicist and a spoilsport, there’s always the original…

Very nice video. You, Sir, are a giver.

  • Schill McGuffin June 27, 2019, 9:30 AM

In the *true* spirit of diversity, I think we all gain from the merits of both versions.

  • Casey Klahn June 27, 2019, 9:33 AM

I see your Kittens, and raise you a Thunderpussy

  • Anonymous June 27, 2019, 9:53 AM

I’d she wanted attention that bad, she should have gone topless. Martha & Vandellas needed none pof that to be attention grabbers…take that from someone who saw them live.

  • David Smith June 27, 2019, 9:57 AM

    Milinials drech.
The Vandella’s White girls audience had more hip grinding koolness than the sub atomic kitty litter on the stage.
This remberizing moment from first wives club is sickening.

  • Walter Sobchak June 27, 2019, 12:11 PM

“It doesn’t matter what you wear”

    I think she disproves that.

  • Callmelennie June 27, 2019, 12:23 PM

Ah don’ always choose voices over breasts, Gerard, but when ah do …. I prefer Martha Vandella.

  • Walter Sobchak June 27, 2019, 12:26 PM

Forget cultural appropriation. If you close your eyes, that old Motown recording is miles ahead. Martha has incredible pipes. And their band. man, they could cook.

To wax nostalgic: Nothing ever came near those old Motown records. A jug of wine and a stack of that wax and you had a great dance party in your living room.

  • Walter Sobchak June 27, 2019, 12:28 PM

And that was Boomer nostalgia. Those parties were definitely in the late 60s. And no, nothing but Motown would do it. Play the Beatles, and everyone would sit down.

  • Vanderleun June 27, 2019, 12:54 PM

Oh my well of course I take the point about the Martha version being far far superior in dancibility and musical miraculousness ….. I was just having the leetle yoke (and enjoying the view.)

And THUNDERPUSSY???!!! Well, high marks for concept and B for execution (says he who once upon a time was an editor at Penthouse.)

  • PA Cat June 27, 2019, 2:55 PM

I’m waiting for Miss Olive’s editorial: a house panther (black cat, for you non-cat-rescue folks) is the true Thunderpussy. Do not diss Gerard’s editor! (Whether she styles his hair, I don’t know, but some house panthers do.)

Casey; I see your Thunderpussy and raise you a Heart:

Another excellent bit of proof that there are differences between the sexes. And these gals had no tattoos or other garbage showing. Just sensuality in the he-man attracting method.

Any guy who did not dig that has his single testicle locked in his fly. Most likely a democrat as well.

  • Anonymous June 27, 2019, 11:08 PM

Sideboob never fails to attract attention. She sings nice, and extra credit for no tats.
Gotta go with Martha & the Vandellas, for music, sweet music.

    “Sub-atomic kitty litter”. 💀

I become more and more convinced every day of the old saying that deep down every woman wants to be a stripper. There’s not a You Tube genre out there that’s not full of couples flying planes, building houses, farming, boating, you name it. The guy is always dressed appropriately but the women are in string bikinis. It saddens me that so many men will do readily whore out their wives and that the women so readily agree. I would add that the women don’t have to be anything special, they just need to show as much T&A as possible.

  • Jack June 28, 2019, 6:56 AM

Barry Gordy’s Motown produced great artists, get songs and even better performances but I do enjoy watching pretty white girls perform those old songs, too. It’s probably not fair to critically compare them though, I doubt these lovely lasses are trying to compete with anyone in this genre.

  • H June 28, 2019, 7:15 AM

Yeah, well, visually appealing to be sure, but Steely Dan said it best:

    “Hey Nineteen.
    That’s ‘Retha Franklin.
    She don’t remember,
    Queen of Soul.”

  • Callmelennie June 28, 2019, 8:47 AM

I attended a concert with Atomic Kitten as the headliners and Thunderpussy on the undercard
They got the crowd so stirred up that A Pussy Riot broke out.

You had to have been there

  • John the River June 28, 2019, 3:00 PM

Boob tape. Lets find the d*ckhead that invented that and kick his ass!

  • Snakepit Kansas June 28, 2019, 4:12 PM

I respectfully disagree. I am middle aged plus and have a daughter of 14. I certainly would not appreciate her dressing in such a manner at any age. The other two gals singing were quite attractive and respectably dressed. I’m still horny as a nine dick dinosaur and married for 16 years, appreciating how feminine and sexy my wife still is. The thing that I found most attractive about her when we first met, was that she was so pretty, especially while modestly dressed.

  • Nori June 28, 2019, 7:10 PM

    So,Lennie,it was a mish-mash?

  • jwm June 28, 2019, 8:37 PM

Never could care for motown, R&B, or jazz. Didn’t like them when I was a kid, and I still don’t. Wouldn’t want a date with Martha or any of the Vandellas, either. But if I were a third my age I’d adopt any one of those kittens. Who cares if she sings?

  • Nori June 28, 2019, 8:37 PM

    Damn auto-correct.

  • Lance de Boyle June 28, 2019, 9:09 PM

Smoke Lucky Strike. LSMFT. Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco.
In addition, Loose Straps Mean Floppy Tits.
See, it has the same first letters. Therein lies the joke.

  • Casey Klahn June 29, 2019, 12:01 AM

I dunno. I’ve watched the Atomic Kittens videos a few times now, and I cannot figure out what they’re singing about. Scratches head…
