Who Am I? by Carl Sandburg
My head knocks against the stars.
My feet are on the hilltops.
My finger-tips are in the valleys and shores of
universal life.
Down in the sounding foam of primal things I
reach my hands and play with pebbles of
destiny.
I have been to hell and back many times.
I know all about heaven, for I have talked with God.
I dabble in the blood and guts of the terrible.
I know the passionate seizure of beauty
And the marvelous rebellion of man at all signs
reading “Keep Off.”
My name is Truth and I am the most elusive captive
in the universe.

Take It Where You Find It
Men saw the stars at the edge of the sea
They thought great thoughts about liberty
Poets wrote down words that did fit
Writers wrote books
Thinkers thought about it
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
Many’s the road I have walked upon
Many’s the hour between dusk and dawn
Many’s the time
Many’s the mile
I see it all now
Through the eyes of a child
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
[Chorus]
Lost dreams and found dreams
In America
In America
In America
Lost dreams and found dreams
In America
In America
In America
And close your eyes
Leave it all for a while
Leave the world
And your worries behind
You will build on whatever is real
And wake up each day
To a new waking dream
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
[Chorus]
Change, change come over
Change come over
Talkin’ about a change
Change, change
Change come over, now
Change, change, change come over
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I see my light
See my light
See my shining light
I see my light
See my light
See my shining light

That man’s affect – so tightly-wound and overloaded with anxiety, the soft-spokenness that masks a raging temper which is nevertheless completely ineffectual, the complete inflexibility of mind and thought – seems to be the prevailing physical and mental state of a lot of young people today, regardless of where they stand politically.
It’s a miracle more of them don’t go on shooting sprees, they are clinging onto sanity by their fingernails and all-too-often losing the battle.
The whole thing was retarded.
No kidding Ghostman!
I’m proud to just have a high school education from the 90’s. I have more knowledge about our country than any other college kid. My secret- I can read and can sniff out manure.
It seemed kind of sterile and staged. The boy had a bad case of restless leg syndrome (meth?, gay bowel syndrome?) What the hell is a U-Haul lesbian?
If it were the only way, I’d give my left leg (failing anyway at 69) to keep the rich decaades of pleasure, joy, and beauty to which Johann Sebastien Bach and his many talented devotees have introduced me.

I am guessing that this clip is from: Tár staring Cate Blanchett
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14444726/
How did it get past the censors?
I downloaded the clip from Kaching’s site, but the quality is low. I couldn’t find it on YouTube. If anybody can find a good quality clip please give us a link.
BTW, I probably need to see the movie.
Try this one:
J.S. Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988: Simone Dinnerstein on the piano

It was my experience that the script dialogue in the clip was pretentious, attempting to sound serious and deep by mashing together random sentences and buzz-phrases, e.g. U-haul lesbian, good grief tmi, what a narcissist. Good dialogue in a movie or play should be accessible and meaningful on the first hearing and in the moment. And then on the second or third hearing, even more meaning is understood.
Not so for this clip. It took me three tries to start getting a clue what she was talking about, and even then the action and scene still didn’t match the words. And I still can’t figure out what she was meaning to say about Beethoven. The screenwriter is trying too hard and not hard enough.
I think she was talking about what we here have discussed numerous times: how to love the Art despite knowledge of the flawed and sometimes despicable artist.
