Aww, how sad. She was down with the cause when it was all about punishing and controlling those other icky people who cared nought for her. And now, finally, They have come for her and she’s all butthurt. The revolution eats its own, you useful idiot bint, and it’s your turn to get in the train car. You should have learned from history, but no, you thought your decades of service to the cause and your membership in the hollywood/music pantheon would earn you enough credits to keep you out of the lagers. And They will say, no, sorry, there is one thing more We require of you after your years of service you good and faithful servant, get in the car.

I enjoy watching these cannibals throwing each other over the rim of the pot. Next!

Bette Midler? Couldn’t care less. Took an immediate visceral dislike to her when she emerged decades ago. I knew what she was then, and my intuitive sense about her has been proved over the intervening years. That said, any day the Left is eating it’s own; it’s a good day indeed.
Finally, there was a time when the ACLU and other elements of the illiberal Left at least gave lip-service to the following:
    Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller:

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me
