An Oasis of Sanity in the Vast American Desert of Dementia

The Essential Craftsman is building walls inside his spec house. Filmed in the lost world of last December it is fresh today. It is is an oasis of sanity, calm, professionalism, and competence in a world that one would say, politely, “Has gone mad,” but in truth is simply that the world is on its ass.
Down tools. Step away from the mouse and quit clicking. Take a breather and breathe deep the remembered smell of fresh pine sawdust. Pause and listen for the chuck and the chink of nail guns.
All in all, you owe it to yourself to simply watch a master craftsman at his work. But watch it all the way to the end for those that have become the real stars of the Essential Craftsman series, his grandkids.
I watch EC to see how things are supposed to be done. Then I go do it my way, which is okay but not going to make it in Better Homes or Sunset or AD anything like that. My excuse is that I started and finished this years’ remodels under the lockdown; everything I’ve needed I scavenged from on my property. I built a shed door, installed a hundred year-old 8-pane lead glass window (2 of them, actually), and I’m about to cannibalize a gate latch for said door.
EC would laugh at my antics, I know for sure.
Don’t pat me on the back. This studio, formerly a single Model T Ford garage, has been in process for 2 winters. Now that my flat files are in it, I can’t let another winter come without that wall or stove.
The stove is an 1898 parlor stove; illegalashell. I’ll say it’s just for looks.

Those things are rare as hens teefs around here and ‘spensive as hell.
I’m hoping to have a barrel stove up and running in the workshop by the time snow flies.
