Where the Sidewalk Ends
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

The People Yes
The steel mill sky is alive.
The fire breaks white and zigzag
shot on a gun-metal gloaming.
Man is a long time coming.
Man will yet win.
Brother may yet line up with brother:
This old anvil laughs at many broken hammers.
There are men who can’t be bought.
The fireborn are at home in fire.
The stars make no noise,
You can’t hinder the wind from blowing.
Time is a great teacher.
Who can live without hope?
In the darkness with a great bundle of grief
the people march.
In the night, and overhead a shovel of stars for keeps, the people
march:
“Where to? what next?”

And thus, there is the stupid, “I don’t understand”: Understand. They hate you. They hate everything about you. They want you dead. You are in the way of their Marxist Utopia. That is ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND about them.
I can almost envision it, Americans lead to the box cars, put up against the wall and shot, loudly proclaiming, “I don’t understand!”
FFS.
Charles and other people of good faith, from all races, colors, and walks of life, want allies in the pursuit of equality and fairness. The people he is scolding do not want those things. They want power, nothing else.
Charles is a Democrat, but he definitely talks some serious common sense to the black community every once in a while. I’ve always liked him, and I especially liked his big black ass back when I was a 76ers fan. Guy could box people out like nobody’s business.
What is a semite?
Good on ya Chuck. Well stated and compelling.
For several years now he has been one of the few people in the entire sports world — players, coaches, media types, ownership and management— whose opinions are worth a warm bucket of spit AND he has a platform and isn’t afraid to use it. That’s a hero in my book.
Re: “And thus, there is the stupid, “I don’t understand””
In common usage, people use that phrase to mean many things, only one of which is an actual failure to comprehend the situation in front of them.
More likely he means “this makes no sense” or “I need you to explain in more detail”, or something alomg those lines.
I do this myself and have realized over the last couple of years that other phrases would really be more accurate. Still, I suspect the larger message gets through more than not.
