What can one say except that Scott Wadsworth and his friends are damn good men?

They’re lucky they got away with arboricide without the usual suspects showing up to protest that chainsaw massacre of two innocent cedar trees. Oldie but goodie video of hippies in the forest mourning tree deaths:

Covet is perhaps too strong a word but I wants that chain saw.

Those “old guys” are younger than any of my six kids.

It is so satisfying to watch people who know what they’re doing going about their business.

Dropping trees is not for the faint-hearted. We usually do our own work at our homes, and have taken out a number of big and small ones, with careful consideration of the direction of the fall. It impresses the young men helping us no end.
This, however, tops anything we have ever attempted, and the craftmanship is solid.
I liked the lumberjack’s comment at the end, that there are newer and more efficient ways now, but this is what he knows how to do and the tools he has.
For sheer heart-stopping chutzpah, however, there is this tale of Dropping the Tree Between Two Buildings, which is readily available on the web; I saw it some time ago, and picked this link for the back-ground music added by the poster.

We had to have about 8 pines removed from around our house last year. I hired an arborist to do the work, but had to help him because his helper laid out of work.

We couldn’t get a truck behind the house, so we used the same block and tackle set up as the one used in the video, except we used a “come-a-long” to pull the trees where we wanted them to fall.

He didn’t raise the trees because they were too small to climb, so he had this large sling shot that he used to shoot the pulling string so we could get the cable up into the tops of the trees.

It was very interesting watching and helping get all those trees removed.
