Something to Contemplate While Waiting on the Returns Tonight… Tomorrow… Next Week… Next Month… 2020

“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” — Ecclesiastes

That was impossible to stop watching. Yay, bears.

  • Casey Klahn November 6, 2018, 8:44 PM

Grizzly bear cub ice axe arrest practice begins tomorrow at 8 am on the Inter Glacier.

    You gotta love a bear..

  • ghostsniper November 7, 2018, 4:20 AM

Admit it, you grinned from ear to hear when it cleared the crest and started running after Mama.
Sometimes you just have to realize your approach is wrong and come in at the challenge from a different angle. There are no questions, only answers.

Sheer pluck and determination. I noticed that although Mama bear kept looking back at Baby bear, as soon as the cub reached the top, she headed off and Baby followed. Just another difficulty overcome. We humans would embrace, praise, and tell the world. The bears just went on with their life.

    Busy this AM. Update later.

I noticed the twatter account, “im (pic of a peach) him.” You can’t escape these creeps.
    OTOH–
    Bravo for the bear.

The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that’s the way the smart money bets!

I shamelessly stole this off the innertubes someplace:

“attributed to the Comte de Bussy-Rabutin (1618–93), ‘God is usually on the side of the big squadrons against the small,’ and Voltaire (1694–1778), ‘God is on the side not of the heavy battalions but of the best shots.’

The video has been removed … someone complained that the bears (mother and cub) were OK until the videographer “harassed” them with a drone, causing them to flee

  • Vanderleun November 8, 2018, 8:47 AM

    And it is back.

  • Phillipa Crawford November 8, 2018, 9:27 AM

Clayton, I saw a story to that effect, too. They added that mom and baby were “terrorized” by the drone. They way they ambled away once baby reached to the top belies the claim.

  • ghostsniper November 8, 2018, 10:26 AM

Did you see the drone shadow on the snow?

  • Casey Klahn November 8, 2018, 10:35 AM

I’ll look again; thought that was bird shadow. The changes of zoom made me think this was filmed through a telescopic lens – not a drone. Might be wrong…

Slightly off topic but someone going elk hunting recently asked me about shooting an elk. I started to tell the story then I could tell some gal from Purchasing was trying to discretely overhear the story. Heheh. I told the guy that the cow elk herd I suddenly came upon was startled but one cow elk couldn’t run away because it was nursing a yearling, and that was the one I easily shot! By the look on her face I could tell that the Buyer was horrified!!! I couldn’t hold back my laughter.
