ProgLibIsm: They Hate the Church More Than They Hate Life Itself

Modern liberalism is an acid that burns through everything it touches. The Church has shriveled in proportion to its exposure to it. Now those who have long sought its death present themselves, carrying more of this acid, as its healer, and even, as Thomas Cahill wrote in the New York Times, finger Pope John Paul II, who resisted it, as the Church’s enemy…. He then proposes a “solution,” which amounts to trading the teachings of Jesus Christ for modern liberalism.
St. Peter’s in Chains By George Neumayr in The American Spectator

NEWMAYR’S OBSERVATION that “Modern liberalism is an acid that burns through everything it touches” is of the moment. Today’s progressivism/liberalism (ProgLibIsm)  is as dark as the various icons it worships with an almost perverted frenzy.

Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St. Paul
Give me Christ
Or give me Hiroshima
Destroy another fetus now
We don’t like children anyhow
I’ve seen the future, baby: It is murder

– – Leonard Cohen

As a one-time card-carrying member of the Culture of Death, I’ve felt the acid burn out the soul and replace it with the dead-end secular totems of possessions, fashion, sexuality, and ego-uber-alles. There is no faux-Randian “virtue of selfishness”  when the ProgLibs wield it.  I’ve used selfishness to “enhance” my own life and I’ve had “selfishness” used on me in turn to enhance the lives of others.

Money and things drive the ProgLib elites and their unAmerican culture. Vows have zero meaning to them. Truth, less than zero.

In ProgLibIsm people are traded for houses much as a fresh bottle of wine is picked up at the grocery store while the drained ones are hidden in the trash.

Commitment and duty have no place in ProgLibIsm — everything is reduced to “lifestyle” choices in which, since people are only things — only soulless lumps and clumps of cells that have grown credit ratings — they can easily be replaced by other things or other people to be used as things, as draft animals for hauling bloated egos around the landscape, as checkbooks that pay for frantic feminine fantasies and self-fulfillment until at last they are overdrawn. The is no god in this Brave New 1984 World unless it is the god of Get Yours.

I remember when this acid burned strongly on all fronts and seemed, in the main, unstoppable because it seemed to have become ‘the universal solvent’ — something that could dissolve all that it came in contact with. The flaw in that formula was, of course, the flaw that lurks in the ancient alchemical nature of the universal solvent — it will eventually burn through everything, even its container.

What we’ve seen in the last year is the evidence that the container that holds antiquated   ProgLibIsm  is beginning to be eaten through at last. I’ve been struck again and again by just how small, mean and trivial the daily  “victories” of the ProgLibIsm propaganda mills of the media seem to be.

Under advanced demographic attack by the rigid and extreme conservatism of Islam across Europe, ProgLibIsm in those states seems to be falling back on extending its failed policies of bribes and accommodation — as if offering greater “police-safe” zones in cities and ever higher doles will cause the swelling future to live in peace with the settled present. In time these zones will fail and the demand for bribes in terms of benefits will become so high they cannot be paid.At which point the surviving Europeans will become yet another Islamic food source. Instead of perpetuating itself, European ProgLibIsm looks to the small still fungible victories of jobs for life and long vacations. In the end, Europe will get, in the words of the aptly named Grateful Dead, “A vacation for the rest of its life.”

Lacking real electoral power outside of its ProgLibIsm urban sanctuaries, and finding its support among the ordinary people of America waning with every passing election, American ProgLibIsm has had to withdraw into its armed hamlets of urban ghettos, academia, and the media; hamlets where it is existing on thinner and thinner gruel as time goes by.  Any university you care to name is now a poster child for how little ProgLibIst academia thinks of free speech . You can see the acid eating its way through the walls of the containers.

None of this is to say that the  ProgLibIsm   is soon to be a sad historical episode — although its stock and trade seems to be one sad historical episode after the other. ProgLibIsm culture and the people who promulgate and promote it are far too entrenched in the fabric of America — in our schools on all levels, in our media, local and national, in our politics, local, state and national, and, most insidious of all, in our “approved” national arts and entertainment. Like parasites the nation is lousy with them. They are far too embedded to vanish like a choking fog at break of day.

It is to say that the American demographic, at its roots, has changed and that, in time and perhaps not such a long time, this increasingly sad ProgLibIsm hodge-podge of half-baked new-age nostrums, impoverished politics, and intellectual insanity will prove to confirm its own well-worshipped social Darwinism and, irrelevant at last, travel down the path to   extinction.

Yes, they hate, Hate, HATE America as it is. They want it to be the USSR.

  • Terry January 27, 2018, 11:25 AM

Sam, they hate their own existence more than anything. They have no soul. They are acidic vapor.

Nice post – academia and the education industry have indoctrinated a generation or two to the irrational sentimental and all intrusive government point of view. That can be reversed and it seems to be underway. Do not give up hope.

  • ghostsniper January 27, 2018, 1:22 PM

    It’s a media creation entirely.
I have only seen it in pixels.
I have never seen it with my bare eyes.
Turn off the media and the ProgLibIsm vanishes.
It doesn’t exist out here in reality.

    Dr. Jay-
Courage is something you can’t be afraid to have.

Reading this makes me appreciate more than ever that I chose to spend my productive years manipulating things [which could have killed me if I didn’t do it right] rather than people.

Yowsah – although it’s pretty easy to believe right at the moment. This morning I was a paid bass at the San Francisco Mass for Life at St. Mary’s Cathedral, the kickoff event for the later March for Life right in the faces of the leftie baby-murderers.

You all shoulda seen it, an enormous cathedral packed to the walls with maybe four thousand believers, standing, sitting, sitting and kneeling on the floors, there to worship and be addressed by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, a young man just every bit as Sicilian as that name implies. Cordileone doesn’t piously announce his support for Life, he powerfully never lets anybody forget that we’re here as Catholics because we wish to end abortion and all its miseries.

Just beautiful, and enough to make you feel optimistic.

As long as there is greed in this world, power over others will be sought to express that greed.
As Lord Overu would put it, “Greed corrupts and power to coerce paves its way and maintains its sway.”
Forever, the counterforce must come from men of honor, self-respect.
There can be no final victory; we live and die on our knees or on our feet.
If we care enough, we will teach our children why and we’ll.

A good read, as always. I want to have some hope that libshits are about through, but can’t quit get there. They took an epic trouncing in the pres election, and do not hold the houses of congress. But, their bureaucracy is deep and strong in the halls of power.

  • bob sykes January 28, 2018, 4:17 AM

You’re not paying attention. ProgLibIsm will not disappear unless society itself collapses into a new Dark Age. I don’t mean recession or depression. I mean collapse, where institutions, morals and traditions disappear and are replaced by chaos and savagery. Venezuela is the shining example. Even a collapsed economy and mass starvation do not dissuade the Venezuelan communists. They actually believe more of the same is needed. Insanity indeed.

    ghost,

I know, sounds like a mercenary fish, doesn’t it? Actually, after a 20-year hiatus I’m once again trying to reclaim my life as a singer in San Francisco. The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption is a very high-level musical situation reading and performing Renaissance motets and Gregorian chant. Substituting there as a section leader and sometime soloist pays me enough for a voice coach, and a little left over after expenses, for two hundred-mile round trips a week.

There’s no business like show business.

  • Snakepit Kansas January 28, 2018, 6:05 AM

    Mr. Sykes,
Liberalism/socialism and its bankrupt set of values that go along with will almost certainly bring on a new dark age. At some point the huge amount of debt this nation holds will need to be repaid. Before the Chinese and the rest of the world completely quit buying American debt, the price of it will sharply rise. That should be the start of major political upheaval. Government spending will likely not get cut, vendors simply won’t get paid. We will become a much larger scaled version of current day Venezuela or Greece. Once our government cannot pay its debts and cannot fund everything from military programs and construction projects to food stamps, THEN it’s going to get ugly.

Ghost thinks I do not have enough ammunition. Heheh.

If we want to reestablish our Judeo-Christian-Greco-Roman civilization, the most successful attempt at creating at least a purgatory, rather than a hell on earth to date, we need to understand it’s roots and be able to explain and justify to the God fearing atheists and agnostics (Why yes, almost be definition, most agnostics and atheists are afraid of God.) on both the left and the right.

Jordan Peterson’s biblical lecture series provides a strongly rational approach to this. I recommend watching and sharing at least his first lecture, therein he provides a logical sequence postulating the earliest biblical concepts were/are the necessary seed of the world’s most successful civilization and notes the hell on earth the post-moderns are creating if this seed, root is abandoned.

Wassup, Rob? You know, the other day I actually paid for a bass.

They delivered him to me on a plate, and I consumed him with some fava beans and a nice Chianti

  • Ten January 28, 2018, 12:23 PM

Dr. Jay asked, ‘Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me’?

Maybe simplistic is a better word. Consider the facts:

    1. ProgLibIsm is self-evidently psychotic. Nope, I say that not as rhetoric; it’s a plain deduction that simply observes that the left’s tenets are The Lie and appearances-centrism, hallmarks of clinical dysfunction. They postmodernistically invent reality, frame any narrative pursuant it, reject objective reality, invent new moralities, steal from others, defraud everything, project onto The Other, and morally split like crazy. No pun; they’re apparently, evidently, religiously psychotic. They’re racist, sexist abusers and they’re way inside the house. Have been for half a century, rent paid.

    2. The right, being ostensible, is all but completely codependent on #1. The right simply instinctively says and does the binary, polar opposite of the left. The right does not operate from principle or position but from its own mob’s instincts and from dumb cultural inertia. The right has no idea what conservatism is and by now actually actively rejects much of the founding structural architecture, preferring a list of statism a mile long.

In no particular order: Federal “social security” and MediCare/Aid medicine plus prescription drug plans; the nearly $1T welfare state as some permanent, arbitrary, political, “safety net” percentage of all expenditures; central schooling, the two-income household, and the resultant progressive national morality as a component of the former; a NASA fetish – which is socialism for scientists; personal income tax as “skin in the game”; untaxed corporatism and the central corporate oligarchy that studies show has nullified the individual’s voice in Congress in favor of laws actually written by its lobbyists; overt congressional graft and campaign recklessness- calling it “free speech”; central banking and the casino bank – the “investment bank” is its sanctified, pro-“capitalism” title; the holy primacy of the stock market, which really is stock buybacks and incredible Fed subsidies, along with algo trading, HTFs, and elite market access; the utter, cross-linked abyss of financial derivatives built thereon; progressive monetary policy, fractional reserve – because “there’s not enough money” – fiat reserve currency, and monetizing everything; the petro-dollar; endless foreign entanglements; militarism and military expansionism; the industrial war complex; military and war culture fetishism; veterans culture and its socialized expenses; militarized police, the surveillance state and sacrificing 4A for “safety”; and instinctively identifying about half of tax-funded public servants as HEE-roes because they wear a uniform. There’s probably more.

    3. Given this, the ultimate horror is pending: Give the ostensible right the reins of all three branches, which we have, what will they do? They’ll forget entirely the national debt and will pump markets to bursting thus beating the dollar down to a literal penny, ending it, at which time the next collapse will justly have them alone in the national crosshairs. Then they’ll rummage around looking for a leftist to blame, all the while yelling hoorah or semper fi from their rec room or their pickup truck or something while waving a weapon of some sort and shrieking about 2A.

I don’t think it’s explicitly, inherently solipsistic in the cavernous rightist echo chamber (no disrespect to our erudite and artistic host whatsoever because it generally isn’t in here), however in there it is typically poorly reasoned, historically narrow and selective, jingoistic, smug, ignorant, arrogant, defensive, and not up for correction. The right, having assumed all the reigns of power only about a year ago, will proceed to do absolutely nothing to reclaim what it never should have lost.

The Current Occupant is therefore an accidental gift. He is an accidental gift the likes of which the ostensible right will first squander and then never, ever, ever see again. The psycho left will now proceed to encroach and encroach and the ostensible right will chortle and point and then go order another triple bacon combo death meal with super-sized Goliath fries and the four quart gulpie, run over some vegans and a windfarm to show he really means business, and finally capitulate into a smoldering heap while the American press JFK warned everybody about – before they ignored him completely – gets out tankers of ink and starts shoveling an entire nation over. When the right finally goes extinct, which it is hellbent to do, it won’t have a single valid defense to hang around its own neck. It did this to itself.

The American right is wholly incapable of being the American right.

@Ten, when the thief is picking your pocket it doesn’t matter which hand he uses, you are left without regardless. Is the left/right paradigm anything but a divergent to cause people to herd to one side or the other, but to the side none the less? Thieving is OK as long as it’s MY thief. In many ways man is still a very primitive creature so keep that in mind when you point your crooked finger at the sand fleas. Maybe AI will save man from himself. Maybe.

God is the starter, setting the human race [and whatever else] on its way.
The Starter’s pistol unfortunately has been adapted to the human’s piss ’til until you drown your disagreeing and disagreeable opponents.
Everyone’s bibles cover the world story, its glory and gory, differently, offering and ordering guidelines for all. To know what you or others believe, observe what you and others do and what the explanation for the action is and whether or not embarrassment occurs.
