“When Men Get Bored: ” Forging A Pizza

Carpenter and master blacksmith Scott Wadsworth, one of my favorite Americans and a most Essential Craftsman, has this little diversion on his shockingly good You Tube Channel: The Essential Craftsman.

The forge in question runs up to around 2,100 – 2,200 degrees. Pizza Hut needs to just Sit. Down.

Alert the Authorities!

I think that a homemade pizza would’ve been a more appropriate pie for that forge/oven. Ready made store bought pizzas are the epitome of awful.

Boredom is the mother of invention. Back in the last century, when I used to work for a living (damn, that phrase has a nice ring to it!), at one time I was assistant fireman (dogsbody) at a coal fired 20 Megawatt power plant burning over 200,000 tons of coal a year. I open an inspection port on the fire box of a 3 story tall boiler, set my foil wrapped hoagie on a fire brick inside, shut the inspection door, count to 3, open it & turn the hoagie over, shut the door, count to 3 again, open it, take out the hoagie & enjoy a very very hot, toasted lunch.

I guess a dinky little forge is OK if you don’t have a real fire handy. -grin-
