Long Read of the Day: SJWs Always Double Down

“What is Social Justice? Social Justice is the equal distribution of resources and opportunities, in which outside factors that categorize people are irrelevant.”
—Pachamama Alliance

At last, your long ordeal at the hands of the corporate inquisition is finally over. After six months of being interrogated by suspicious HR managers, defending yourself against false accusations, clarifying all the intentional misunderstandings and mischaracterizations, explaining away the ridiculous exaggerations, and enduring the cold shoulder from half the employees in your office, your boss has assured you that everything is good and you are in the clear. You’re grateful, of course, since he’s been staunchly in your corner since the first time HR descended on you like a thunderbolt for your alleged sins against diversity and inclusion. In the end, it turned out that it was all the consequence of a Dilbert cartoon taped on the inside of your door, to which one of the women in the office took offense; at least, that was the only tangible offense that remained after the six-month investigation failed to turn up any evidence of all the other crimes of which you were accused.

“I really appreciate the way you went to bat for me,” you tell your boss. And you’re truly grateful to him. When everyone else looked the other way, happy that the wolves weren’t out to devour them, your boss didn’t hesitate to tell his superiors that all the rumors were ridiculous, even going so far as to provide a vice-president with your travel itinerary and proving that you were in Canada visiting customers on the day you supposedly lingered at the entrance of your nameless accuser’s cubicle too long and made her feel uncomfortable. You’re pretty sure that if it wasn’t for him, you’d be out in the street looking for a new job already.

“Hey, you’re a valuable member of the team,” he assures you. “I’d hate to lose you, especially over some crazy nonsense like this. All you have to do is attend a one-day diversity class, and you can put this whole thing behind you.”

Diversity class? But you didn’t do anything! Didn’t they just confirm that you didn’t do anything?

“Why do I have to take the class now since they know I didn’t do any of that stuff?”

He spreads his hands and shrugs. “You know how it is. Sure, everyone knows you’re in the clear, but this lets the CEO assure everyone that we take racism and sexism and homophobia and all that very seriously, and keeps the directors off his back. I mean, the official story is that it’s all just a big misunderstanding, right, so they’re having you take this class to make sure there aren’t any more misunderstandings in the future.”

“But there wasn’t any misunderstanding. It was all just a pack of outright lies!”

He winces. “Hey, I know that, and you know that. Hell, everyone in the executive suite knows that. But they can’t come right out and say it either, can they?”

“Why not?”

“Because if they did, they’d have to fire the woman who brought the accusations against you, and nobody wants that kind of trouble. Look, we all know there is something seriously wrong with that woman. But if they fire her, we’re talking a wrongful dismissal lawsuit at the very least, and probably other employees getting upset and threatening to quit, other whackjobs manufacturing sob stories about how they were harassed or offended or whatever, and HR going nuclear. And if word got out to the media that we fired a black woman, forget about it! By the time it was all over, we’d have to rehire her and promote her to department head, set up a scholarship fund for disadvantaged youth, and sponsor at least three Women in Tech conferences.”…..

I used to be in the work force, in Seattle. In the late 80s-90s and early oughties. It wasn’t quite this bad, but I can only imagine the current state of the job force in America. How does anything get done? Instead of ingenuity, they have fear. If I were sentenced to diversity training, you can bet that there’d be empty tires, and sand-filled carburetors on some teacher’s vehicles…

OK. That’s childish of me. But push-back has got to happen. We can’t live in a civilization like that described in this piece, can we?

Nearly identical thing happened to a good friend, Casey. In the 90’s. After just receiving as high an annual performance rating as you could put on the form, he was accused of creating and fostering a hostile work environment by a female subordinate. It’s been a while, and my memory isn’t what it was. He was assured management could make it all go away. All he had to do was submit to a PIP, Personal Improvement Plan, requiring attendance at mind bending sessions and counseling. He asked for time to think it over, and then told them to pound sand. Shortly after he began a new career, and never looked back. And the single Dilbert cartoon on the back of the door? We had our offices literally papered with cartoons that would make Scott Adams blush. I could not survive in that place today.

    Nor would I want to.

Employment is like putting all your financial eggs in one basket and letting an idiot carry it.

If you like what you’re doing, do it for yourself and have lots of employers (clients) rather than just one like you have now, that way if one employer (client) goes insane you have plenty of others to rely on.

Employers steal a portion of your money before they give it to you, clients can not do that unless you allow them to.
Having been self employed for the past 31 years, that concept is nothing but criminal to me.
Why do people continue to play that upside down game?

I’ve read the first book, SJW’s Always Lie. I expected it to be a polemic, with lots of stories. Instead what I got was a survival manual that has been useful more than once. I’ve learned to spot some of the warning signs that the SJWs are coming after me, or an organization of which I’m part.

I’m three chapters into this book now. The author’s writing is timely–so timely that his comments on the NFL debacle run right up to the moment of publication. Both books are easy reads, and hard to put down. They can save your career, business, organization and possibly your life.

Casey, heh. . .I look back on some of the stuff that went on in offices where I worked, as recently as 1992. Oh, man. I am so glad that I am self-employed.

The image that comes to mind is Madame Mao. Mike Obama did a mediocre imitation of the same scowl.

About 30 years ago I worked for a company where a black female key punch operator applied for a position as a computer programmer. Of course she had no skills as a programmer, no training as a programmer and no clue what the job actually required. She wasn’t even considered. BUT the head of the programming department that rejected her application and subsequently hired and actual computer programmer from outside the company was a white male. So when the woman made a discrimination complaint the manager lost his job, he was demoted. Everyone agreed that he couldn’t possibly have hired her for that position but no matter, he lost his job and the hired a female manager to take his place. Problem solved!

Sabotage is one way and an early way and needs to be implemented. If that doesn’t work, one hates to think of the next step.

The central problem in all of this is that today bullshit and bullshiters like this suffer no consequences. Time to bring back “Truth OR Consequences.”

“Social Justice is the equal distribution of resources and opportunities..”

Nobody should care about opportunity when there’s an equal distribution of resources.

Burial in a unmarked hole in the middle of a state forest comes to mind as the safest course…

Did I say that out loud?

  • Howard Nelson October 12, 2017, 8:31 AM

I’d add to the Pachamama Alliance definition of social justice, “to achieve equal outcomes.”

It’s tripwires and trapdoors every day.
    Horrible.
    Feminist management!
