Colluding Internet Titans Move to Shut Down Conservative Voices

This is obviously a raw political move to collude in influencing the November elections.

Glenn Reynolds notes at Instapundit on DAVID FRENCH ON THE UNPERSONING OF ALEX JONES: There are reasons to be deeply concerned

A few points: (1) This is absolutely the first stage in a coordinated plan to deplatform everyone on the right. It’s not really about Alex Jones at all. (2) Aside from its free-speech* implications, which are serious indeed, this also looks like an antitrust violation: Media companies, which compete with Jones for eyeballs, colluded to get other media companies to shut him down. Were I Jones, I’d file an antitrust suit. This is more than arguably conspiracy in restraint of trade (and possibly a conspiracy to deprive him of civil rights). (3) This is proof that we need to break up these big tech companies, which exercise way too much power via their near-monopolies. That they coordinate in the abuse of those monopolies only makes it clearer.

Roger Simon notes: InfoWars and the Rise of the Tech Fascists

Nevertheless, the group censorship of Mr. Jones, led by our friends in Cupertino, the makers of the ubiquitous iPhone — I’ve had a half-dozen myself and am typing this on a MacBook — is one of the scarier developments of our time, if not potentially the scariest. Apple is one hypocritical organization banning the puny Jones.  They — the first trillion-dollar company — are the people who are genuflecting to the Chinese, kowtowing (that is definitely the proper word) to Xi Jinping and Co., and making all kinds of accommodations to that totalitarian regime for access to their giant market.

What little I know about Alex Jones is that he is a phony and makes cheap tabloids look good. I have heard him a little and read things he said/wrote a little but I don’t know much about him. But to say he is a “conservative” seems odd. He may from time to time agree with good solid conservative principles but I’m just not sure he is what most would call “conservative”. Perhaps he is more “independent” or somewhat anti-liberal and that is where the confusion comes in.

I use apple products, facebuhk, Goo Gull, and YoobTube for business, and am searching for ways to counter them. It’s not the same as boycotting StarBux.

Yes – truly the evil of our day and we saw it happening years ago. GoooGull once had a book cover where the name wrapped inside the dust flap, and appeared in a quick glance as if it were titled: “God.” That is some shit. Does anyone doubt that GooberGull does not see itself in the status of God? They feel that they own morality, and it ain’t your morality, Mrs and Mr America. It’d be one thing if they had an argument for their teleology, but “the argument is settled” for them. They are right, and fuck you! If this is the case, then it becomes incumbent on the new correct to fight those not like them. Deniers. Heathens.

I’ll propose an experiment for you. Have an investigative reporter interview the heads at GooBull. He can ask them to describe their ethical guidelines for condemning AlexJones. I think that’d be revealing. Too bad it’ll never happen. And that, right there, is what ought to give you pause.

    Powder: dry.

That’s how its done, One. You start with somebody on the fringe that not many know or knowing care about… then you move in.

Paraphrasing Martin Niemoller, “First they came for the disturbers of those in power …
Then they came for me…” And now THEY have grown humungous among us!
When the laws and traditions of decency are rejected we all become infected.
Curious that Pastor Niemoller died in 1984. Orwell weeps for all who missed his
“1984” message. Try the youtube digests of ‘Vendetta.’

By the way, The Authorities Have Been Alerted.
THEY smile approvingly of their accumulating stack of cone-shaped power chips; more compact and stable that way.
While, we are madmen most, running mazes in our minds, wondering, wandering, blundering blindly but still too kindly. Different context, but Melville comes to mind, ‘Beware the People in their weeping when they bare the iron hand.’
Uh-oh, THEY are coming up the hallway stairs now. It’s a good thing I’m a nobody.

  • John A. Fleming August 7, 2018, 4:27 PM

We need a new Law. I’m not pithy. But I see the outline. It’s based on the well-known network effect, that the value of the network and its ability to attract new users scales at some power law.

All networks have a utility value threshold at which proggros leftoids will switch from use to cooption and pwning it. The reason is that proggro leftist theory only works in theory, never in practice. In order to survive, proggro theory must parasitically colonize any and all word-based propagation mediums. There’s probably an optimal inflection point of proggro parasitism, in between the network feedback effect going non-linear positive and the network congestion limit. By kicking off non-proggros, that is a signal that the congestion limit is being reached, and the parasites are competing for a shrinking pool of uninfected victims to conquer and infect.

Everybody says “get off T***er, to go to gab.ai”. The day will come, when FANG’s are a fully-infected senescent population, that gab.ai will start up its own “Trust and Safety Council” or some such rot.

(Aside: I could use a more universal and succinct term for “proggro leftist”. These filthy parasites have been with us for a very long time, all of recorded history. And will always be with us.)

“Didn’t you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?… There ain’t nothin’ more powerful than the odor of mendacity… You can smell it. It smells like death.” – Big Daddy, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof

  • John the River August 7, 2018, 7:19 PM

Dr. Jay, if you look up the definition of Mendacity you should see an image of Burl Ives. Great scene, good choice.
    This is mine.
    The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

    We live in interesting times.

The innertoobz will become irrelevant, it almost already is.
You just don’t realize it, human habits, etc.
An event will occur, and you’ll step back and evaluate, you may even revolt.
I’ve been “online” since 1988 and I’ve seen it all, and lately it is becoming more and more useless.
The best was from about 1998 through 2008, and then downhill since.
One day I just won’t show up any more….

  • Casey Klahn August 7, 2018, 8:28 PM

    Best thread and comments.

  • jwm August 7, 2018, 8:37 PM

    Ghostsniper:
That made me pop a memory. I remember in ’03 tuning in to what Hugh Hewitt used to call the blog-o-sphere. I remember when LGF was an unmoderated free for all. Damn, that was a lot of fun.
It occurred to me then, that we were in the Wild West of the internet. Maybe the day is coming when we’re going to need a Tor browser, and dark net access to hear anything outside the cathedral.

    I posted this elsewhere:
Substitute Jew and Non-Aryan for Infowars and Alex Jones. Declare their words as dangerous HateSpeak ™.
But you must speak in dramatic German to a large, enraptured audience.

  • ghostsniper August 8, 2018, 4:57 AM

    “Declare their words as dangerous…”
    ===============
    Blow us.
    Whiney piece of fuk.
The speaker, not Dan, is requesting armed thugs to infringe on other people’s NATURAL rights.
That speaker needs to dood-up and confront whomever they are addressing directly if they have an issue with what has been said. Otherwise, take that ass whippin’ that they deserve.

  • Dan Patterson August 8, 2018, 5:21 AM

ghostsniper: Agreed and thanks for excluding me from the reflex.
DeBlasio, O’Donnell, Chris Murphy, (Any msm contributor), the entire democrat party, Pantifa, etc. are ALL in it up to their balls. Makes for a very interesting social anthropology study where tribalism and a dna-level need for power drowns the instinct for peace among men. Cuba circa 1959, Russia 1915, Japan war lords pre 1930, Europe pretty much since the first sun rose. Common themes with a common outcome.
“But SOME speech is BAAAD!!1!” they screech – “they” being women and the men who fear them – “and we have to have common-sense control of (X) to make things FAIR”. Control of money, access, energy, food, transportation, alcohol, weapons for defense, you name it they (“they”) want it. All of it.
    So f**k “them”.

  • Fred August 8, 2018, 5:25 AM

ghostsniper, Yes! The Internet was way better. It used to run on DNS before goolag took over search. Everything got commercialized and then people bought their way to the top of the results lists. I much preferred simply searching what was out there. One could actually and truly educate themselves on any topic for free because massive volumes of science, history, technical studies and the like would come up in key word searches. Now all we get somebody hocking something on amazon about the topic. For a while you could use Yahoo search to specify domains and eliminate .com there was much value in the .edu .mil .gov and .org searches with DNS back in the late 1990’s and early oughts.

  • Marica August 8, 2018, 7:29 AM

I’d like to offer a recommendation. Think about what you routinely use the internet for. Apple pie recipe? Buy a cookbook. How to snake a toilet? Buy a handyman DIY book. Why do the Romanians hate Ceausescu? Buy a set of encyclopedias. (Actually, I’d recommend three sets: one from earlyish 20th century, another from the early ’60s, and a third from the aughts– but that’s just me.) Keeping up with family & friends? Get their freaking phone numbers and give them a call.

What worries me is the utter dependance we all have on the stupid internet. Counter it as best you can. (My personal project is “preserving Western Civilization one book at a time!”)

  • ghostsniper August 8, 2018, 8:32 AM

Marica is probably right for the most part.
I’ll also add, all of the things Marica mentioned can also be had from other people.
What about your neighbors recipe on Stuffed Cabbage Rolls?
Maybe your uncle has a plumbing snake you can borrow.
Remember that set of late 90’s encyclopedia’s you saw at that garage sale for $10?
And rather than “gadgeting” your fambly and frenz, get off the couch and walk over there, or use a bike, and talk to them in person.

Using electronic devices to “connect” to others is bullshit and you know it, if you’re honest.
Compare the diff between texting someone or fakebooking them to sitting down with them over a cup of mud or a brew or 4. Admit it, there is no comparison. One you do with your weak assed fingers and the other you do with your whole capable body.

If you like your blobby out of shape ass than keep doing it the new technological way but if you want that lithe and powerful frame you used to commandeer then the choice is clear. Little by little enact the change you want to see in yourself. Or not.

Me? Well, Shannon’s sitting right there like she always is, ready to do whatever I want to do, and right now I want to walk up to Chad’s house and drop off the eyepiece and user manual for the 300X spotting scope he’s camouflaging for me. Maybe we’ll sit out on the porch and consume a Stella while Shannon and Riley frolic in the yard. On the way back maybe we’ll traipse along the bank at Pond’s Edge and glare at the black sail cats scanning the surface. Note to self: Take a pocket full of dog food to get them cats frothing the surface. That always gets the hair standing up on Shannon’s back and she’s ready to jump right in the middle of it.

Since I have no TV, and I’m certainly not going to subscribe to the LA Times, the internet is my sole source of news and information. And with no smartphone, my internet access is limited to the desk in the den. My media are well contained. I choose what I want to see in the stream. And yeah, I’m aware of confirmation bias, preaching to my own choir– all that stuff.
I’ve never seen Alex Jones’ site. Nonetheless, watching this go down, watching the utter arrogance with which the NYT blows off criticism of their new poster gurl for the diversity really makes my gut drop.
    It’s war.
It’s a natural impulse to ask, “What can I do about this?”, or say, ” I should do something.”
    The first question is it.
    One word, “can”.
As in “Grant me the serenity to accept…” you all know the rest.

Maybe frantically posting stuff on line is doing something, “changing the things you can”, and all that. Maybe it’s just yelling in a barrel. Hard to tell.

I have heard mutterings somewhere about another, other internet. Not the dark web. Something unconnected. I wonder if its possible.
Buying online and all this kind of connection might be the domain of the old and infirm. I know without it I would be up a crick, as they say.
Yeah, LGF was fun long ago.

  • ghostsniper August 8, 2018, 7:23 PM

“Something unconnected. I wonder if its possible.”

Well, I still have my old Worldgroup BBS software (3.5″ floppies) around here somewhere.
Now where can I find an old 286 and a couple 14.4 modems?
Does anybody have landlines any more? Got rid of ours about 10 years ago.

  • John the River August 9, 2018, 7:18 AM

Yes, I still have a landline. Though retired if called on by a friend to work on one of the remaining legacy phone systems; they have control ports on analog lines and dialup modem (most are 2400 baud).
Secondly, I use it to call out when the number is an 800 or toll free number. When calling a toll-free number, they can harvest your calling phone number even if you have your number blocked. On a toll-free call since they pay the cost the true billing number will always be sent.
Third, there is no ringer. Only an answering machine. Since I only give out my land line number it serves as a ‘honey trap’ for all those “Congratulations! ” BS calls. I never give out my cell and I don’t answer unknown numbers on it. Waiting for a vendor to offer cell phone service with ‘Whitelisting’ and that will be perfect.

Alex Jones, loony*or right as he may be, was at the front of the stalwarts supporting Tommy Robinson and criticizing, embarrassing the Brit government, on YouTube .
Did the Brit government promote the silencing of Alex Jones by pressuring his internet carriers?

    * his conspiracy hoax theory about the Sandy Hook School massacre.

  • ghostsniper August 9, 2018, 2:43 PM

@John, nice bend in the river.
If you do fakebook once, they do you forever.
