I don’t write the headlines I just report them.

“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don’t know we don’t know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones.” — Donald Rumsfeld

I have owned multiple Volvos, though not driving one now. I have loved every Volvo I had and was unhappy finally to have to say goodbye to each one. One of them we passed down to daughter as her first car, so at least it stayed in the fam. She drove it to more than 200,000 miles before, alas!, it too had to go away.

I traded in my last Volvo, a 2005 S-60 Turbo, on a new 2016 Honda Accord. The dealer sold both Hondas and Volvos (next door to each other). Wanted another Volvo but a new top-of-the-line Accord cost no more than a 4 y/o S-60 with 60K-70K miles. Decision got finalized when a Volvo mechanic at the dealership told me (very privately) that Volvos had been heading south in a hurry since the Chinese bought the company.

Civil War? Now? Good to see the rest of the commentati catching up. From mid-November 2016: “America’s Low-Intensity Civil War

What these harassments and the post-election riots are about is control of the central government – and the insurrectionists are using violence to achieve their goals. Don’t think that just because the electoral college will vote and Trump’s inauguration will take place that all this will suddenly fade away like magic.

Everywhere in history, any time the Left has lost, it has turned more violent. Violence always underlies their means.

If Jareth wants greater acceptance, at least among the SJWs, all they have to do is call themselves an undocumented alien.

    Donald;

Best car I ever had was a ’73 144 WOWO, lowered about 4 inches, hotted up (though still agricultural in spirit) engine, beau coups go-fast suspension and brake parts from IPD, stark white, so something akin to a high velocity refrigerator. A “Q ship”, I delighted in blasting by the placidly unsuspecting pilots of ostensibly high performance autos…looking at you, drivers of “the ultimate driving machine”.
I have heard similar rumblings about the falloff in quality, as well. Pity…

“She keeps naggin’ at ya’ night and day/ Enough to drive you nuts…”
OK, so your married to one of these. How in hell you gonna’ get her to put that thing on? I’m thinking about Mark Twain’s comment about picking up a cat by the tail.

Does it include any idiot congresswomen?

In honor of International Women’s Day (today, apparently) I suggest we open our hearts and wallets and send 99 Scold’s Bridles to the Imperial Capitol.

    Nori for the win!

    Donald Sensing’s words: always wise.

Are we in a hybrid civil war now? I was never fooled by the Russian invasion of Ukraine/Crimea even for a second. The whole thing read like the Field Manual of Spetznaz Ops. Plenty were fooled, however. I had people say to my face that it was not a Russian invasion. Nothing new happens in war – not in the theoretical sense. There is open war in the streets. BLM in Texas gunned down a handful of cops, and the BLM was stood up by whomst? Antifa riots, and the mayors and police pat them on the head the whole time. Busloads of migrants arrive at the Rio Grande. Connect the dots on that shit.

    Stay safe, my friends.

Same snarky expression we see on almost all teenage girls nowadays. Although fashions change, some things never change 🙂

    (Is snarky a word? What’s a better one? I can’t think of it…)

Gerard, thank you for the Petel statue. I get it. I won’t be able to possess it, but it is now mine, nonetheless.

Of course I read the story about the art thief, wondering what my work would elicit. Anyway a wonderful phrase was when he realized what/when the pinnacle of his life had been. And how, when he was actually living it, he hadn’t known it.

I sold my last home in CO in 2011 and intended to move to southwest NC. To check out the area I had rented a cabin on the Nolichucky River in east TN. Every day I’d drive down to NC, sometimes as far away as Murphy, and check out listings and then return to my sparse accommodations on the river.

Did I mention I had my 2 GSD with me?

I’ve had many a happy moment during my time here on earth and few regrets, traveled all over the world, sailed the Carib for years, scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef, flown & jumped out of all manner of airplanes, seen Roger Federer hit, loved my time with my daughter and so much more but those two months I spent with my dogs on the Nolichucky were really quite the slice.

They’re long haired Shepherds and we’d go swimming every afternoon when we got back. As they dried off, they would fluff out and appear huge, people were like, Those dogs are gigantic! Then a nice BBQ and some beautiful star gazing.

Lord, that would be Heaven to me. Even without my studio.

Now they’re both near the end. My male is nearly blind and down to 3 legs. He was so bad several weeks ago I had dug his grave but he pulled through and I savor what little time I have left with him. My female has also lost a step or two, haven’t we all? Kills me they’ll both probably die in w Texas.

I still have much to be thankful for and let the Good Lord know every night how much I appreciate it all but man, that summer was wonderful.

And in the case of Rumsfeld there are unknown knowns.
Things he knows that just aren’t so.

MM – enjoy them while you can, and let them enjoy you all they can.
That’s about the best you can do.
