My 16 Y.O. son, who likes to look at Drudge, thought all manner of hellfire would break out now that the government was going to shut down (even for the weekend). I tried to explain to him how it’s a good thing, and will be at least a couple days of not spending largesse on bullshit programs.

We now see the weakest link in government – Congress. Dysfunctional, grandstanding clowns that are incompetent to run a gas station, much less a country. They’ve been given participation trophies by the media for so long that they don’t even know how to govern.
I see the NSA has deleted data they said they’d keep since 9-11. Another bullshit bait and switch by our spooks in Washington. Goddamnsunsabitches. I say place them in the same shutdown order with the FBI. Silent coup is what their doing. How about when we re-open DC on Monday, we somehow unbudget these forkers and see how well things go going forward.
One day our local 7-11 was closed. That was scary. Fortunately they reopened the next day.
Not that I shop there a lot, but there are things in this world that one depends on just to be there when one needs it.

Just went over to the Library of Congress website to look up some bibliographic information. Following notice (hot mess of a red background) at the top of the page: “Notice: In the event of a temporary shutdown of the federal government, beginning January 20, 2018, the LC Online Catalog will remain available to users. Most requests for collection items will not be responded to until the shutdown ends.”
Priorities, priorities. Nice to know the Congresscritters will be book-deprived until further notice (not that they’d miss serious reading matter anyway).

This shutdown is proof that government is the last place to go for help. Don’t believe anyone who tells you “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help”. Trust only yourself, your family, your friends and then your tribe.

If the entire gov’t was completely shut down for a year most of us wouldn’t notice much difference and we’d all be wealthier. Course, the unemployed gov’t criminals might become a pain in the ass but that’s what ammo is for.
A great memory for me was watching the octogenarian and nonagenarian veterans walk over the yellow tape, and visit their WW II memorial, when Obama threw his hissy fit over a govt. shutdown. That was some shit.

It’ll go just like it did the last time. They shut it down for about a week or so. Then one day a whole city in the Southeast of the country, suddenly the EBT cards didn’t work. For about a day. Everybody said, oh that’s just a random weird occurrence. The Republicans in Congress caved the next day, and poof! the EBT system came back online. And everybody forgot.
