What is that wonky Alaska map trying to say?
All that comes to mind is “How to lie in pictures”.
Yeah, that Alaska graphic is totally false. In reality, Texas just barely fits inside.
The Alaska picture… (also has Alaska in the pan handle area, but) it isn’t about the size, it’s about the oil… I’m guessing.
Just flew over Alaska two days ago! The plane had a bottom side camera so you could see (kind of) what was below from ~40K feet or so. It looked cold. The only thing cold here is the San Mig in my hand.
From the Philippines – Snakepit
If Texas “barely fits inside” there’s a LOT left over:
Alaska 663,300 sq mi
Texas 268,597 mi²
But yes it is how to lie… in pictures… with a twist.
Look at the lower right-hand side of the graphic. Look closely.

United Kingdom; Alaska.
Je me don’t get it.
Alaska fits inside Alaska. It’s a graphic joke about infinite recursion. Not sharply done but it has a point even if it is a dull point.
Like Snakepit, and many here, I have had the absolute awe of flying over Alaska, both at high and at low altitudes. It. Goes. On. Forever.
When the tide goes out in Alaska, more land is revealed than in all of Texas.
Tall tales, told dirt cheap.

Oh.
Must be an in joke. I live on top of the world (Alaska) & I got it right away.
Ok Jim, let’s have it….
Because I have stared at it for 5 minutes and read all of these comments, and I am categorically at a loss as to what the schmuck point it is supposed to be making.
And me rilly smart!
A.X., if I may. It’s hyperbole! Alaska is so big that even Alaska fits inside of it!
When the giant lumberjack Paul Bunyon was logging Alaska and the Northwest, his fingers alone were 2 axe handles wide, and twice as long.
Gerard calls this graphic “infinite recursion”. I call it an Ouroboro tale.
The Alaska meme plays off the whole “Alaska is soooo big …” that all theses countries and states can fit into it. It’s a state ego thing.
