A Comment from Maggie’s Farm: My local grocery store sponsors a charity that gives a free lunch to people in need.

They give some of their own money/food and they encourage donations from shoppers. A good deed and a community-minded company. But I live near the building where the free lunch is served and the reality is a little different from what is claimed. Most participants drive there. That means they have a car, buy gas, pay for insurance and of course repairs from time to time. Some of the cars are worth thousands not just clunkers. Many of them show up early and sit outside having a cigarette. At $6 a pack they can afford to smoke but can drive their car to get a free lunch made possible by donations from people who work to pay for their own food. Looking at the freeloaders it would appear that they enjoy a drink from time to time, as in every day for most of the day, but they can’t afford a couple of dollars to buy something to eat.

This is more or less what all Welfare/charity in this country amounts to; i.e. paying for the food and housing of poor people so that they can smoke/drink/do drugs and not work.

That applies to the free school lunches too. A friend of mine is a school lunch cook. She is still working, cooking free lunches for students over the Summer. The school bus drivers take the lunches to the bus stops at a specific time and mom. dad or the kid picks up the lunch. The driver only waits about 5-10 minutes at each stop so this might be the only time in their lives that the kids are on time for something. I see this right in my neighborhood. I live in a middle class neighborhood, the homes aren’t cheap but far less expensive than the nice part of town. Almost all the homes are owner occupied. Almost all of the homeowners have nice cars and jobs, many have boats and trailers parked in the driveway too. But yet the city/county/state pays cooks to cook the food, bus drivers to drive it to the stops and god knows who else to get $3 worth of food to the child for lunch. When this is discussed by politicians or others in authority the implication is that the kids would starve to death if the taxpayer didn’t pay for this. But it’s pure bull shit. I even know some of these people will look at the food delivered to them and if it isn’t what they want that day they just toss it in the garbage. And on the TV they are telling us that we are feeding the “hungry” children. Bull shit. Thursday morning links – Maggie’s Farm

More Golden Moments in the Lives of the “Left Behinds”:

If Liberals Don’t Take on Identity Politics, They’ll Lose Black Lives Matter is just the idiot Marxist grandchild of the Black Panthers partying with upper-crust Manhattanites two generations ago. The liberals who embraced radical chic, as long as it was wrapped in racial packaging, disavowed their movement and the rest is history. Now their children and grandchildren are being canceled as the revolution catches up with them.

Our Changing World This aging will bring tremendous economic stress. We’ve already seen in miniature – during the great lockdown of 2020 – what happens when global demand dries up. The shocks that reverberate through the system. Our global economic model is based upon the principle of growth… what happens when populations shrink? When they age and downsize? When they no longer make large purchases but prefer simple time spent in the family as they realize that they – too – are mortal and begin to count the cost of what really matters?

As soon as the hated Trump declared his side on the virus issue, the Left immediately embraced a set of positions on the virus. Every left-wing and adjacent governor blew up his state to spite Trump.

A Large Regular: Democratic National Convention The DNC probably wants to avoid having Joe Biden speak for any length of time at all costs but at the same time they need a national stage and a big audience to launch the Party’s VP pick. That VP pick may be the DNC’s only hope at avoiding a down-ticket bloodbath in November. At the same time canceling the event makes sense in that the DNC also knows an in-person event will devolve quickly into a BLM, Defund the Police, Green New Deal orgy broadcast on national TV with most likely a sideshow of protests and violence. Chicago 1968 anyone?

Get the popcorn out. This will be interesting to watch.

“When hopes and dreams are loose in the streets, it is well for the timid to lock doors, shutter windows and lie low until the wrath has passed. For there is often a monstrous incongruity between the hopes, however noble and tender, and the action which follows them. It is as if ivied maidens and garlanded youths were to herald the four horsemen of the apocalypse.” From The True Believer, by Eric Hoffer

Glenn Harlan Reynolds “Once known as the Gray Lady, the Times now looks more like a middle school run by the Mean Girls crowd while the administration cowers in its offices. The proper response to a bunch of junior staffers complaining about articles that a paper publishes is something between ‘Go, write a piece explaining why that piece is wrong’ and ‘Fetch my latte.’ Journalism jobs are hard to come by and, for every troublesome staffer at the New York Times, there are undoubtedly at least a dozen candidates out there who would do at least as good a job and with less overweening self-importance.”

Ah but that would require newspaper publishers to have spines.

The Badass Black Cowboys of Compton, California I think we are in somewhat of a Black cowboy renaissance. I also think that every 10 years or so we are moved by the images of black men on horses in Hollywood and popular culture. I think the future of Black cowboys rests on the experiences of the younger generation. The Compton Cowboys, for example, are deeply committed to preserving the legacy of Black cowboys in the city. Their biggest fear is that they will be the last generation of Compton’s cowboys. I think other cowboys around the United States feel the same.

Every day in north Minneapolis there are free groceries being handed out. This is made possible by guilty white suburban folks. No one has missed a meal or even had fear of that. The grocery store half a mile from me that was looted? The grocery company is providing free bus rides to the nearest open store, door to door.

And yes, a large percentage of the free food is wasted. One sees it with the bums cadging money at the freeway exits. There’s a box from the giveaway. The chips, meat and easy to consume food is gone. There’s a gallon of milk spoiling, along with all the produce. When his shift at the corner is over, he’ll fold up his sign and walk to his car to drive home, or to the liquor store.

A recent trend is for “families” to bum money together. The father looks sad, holding a sign saying he can’t find work. Mom is watching the kids in their folding chairs. Tugs at the old heartstrings, it does, unless you’re there at shift change and see them leave in their late-model car.

Oh, and the Malt-O-Meal plant just down the road? They’re paying $21.35/hour to start, and all the benefits too.

    “the Malt-O-Meal plant … paying $21.35/hour ”

Don’t you have any Soylent plants nearby?
    I hear they need people.

  • Anonymous July 18, 2020, 3:30 AM

The Soylent plant gives out generous hiring bonuses. But you have only 24 hours to spend it.

The Minneapolis city charter specifies a certain number of police per capita. The number is around 840 right now. The current budget allows for 888, but there are about 850 actually active.

The lawyer that specializes in PTSD disability claims says there are now 200 Minneapolis police in the filing process. He also says he has appointments for “dozens and dozens” more. The PD does not have direct access to such claims, so they’re not confirming. They do admit there are 111 officers on some sort of medical leave.

If 200 depart, that means there are about 33 fewer officers per shift, all day, all night, every day. That’s out of about 125 per shift. So instead of the 130 or so that are supposed to be out there, there will be fewer than 100.

No wonder the gang bangers are shooting up the neighborhoods and driving like maniacs. They can.

About the free food give-aways and the people who mooch off the system… I once resented these people and the drag they have on society, not to mention my tax dollars. Then one day I realized something, and I came to appreciate these people for what they are. They have effectively taken themselves out of the competition for jobs and a better life, and left the playing field to those of us better equipped to play on the field.

My life might not have been so cushy, successful, and prosperous if all of them had been competing for the same jobs and a piece of the American Dream. But bless their hearts, they found it easier to drop out and live on the crumbs from our tables, and I will forever be grateful to them for making it easier for me to succeed. Yep, it took hard work, discipline, setting long-term goals, and saving money instead of spending it all on payday, and putting something back for the future.

AND IT WORKED! It worked for me and a few million other Americans, but it would not have worked if every single one of the downtrodden had also struggled for a place on the field. They managed to narrow the talent field to fewer participants and thereby allowed me to succeed where I might not have if everyone played.

Diana West called Biden out for his Marxist/Communist ties some time ago.

Here’s her first post on the matter on June 25th:

While I’m at it, buy her book, “American Betrayal” and don’t listen to the idiots who try to bring her down like that prick Radosh and others like him. She has end-notes up the wazoo and even wrote another smaller book to rebut the naysayers.

Our village police have a winter coat drive every year for the less fortunate children in our community. The police department social workers coordinate with the school district social workers to identify which families to invite.

One year, my husband, who is with the fire department, was asked to help out and our family went with him. These coats were not designer brands, but were very attractive, heavy-duty new winter coats from a company that sold them to the cops at a steep discount. There were not only coats for the kids and babies, but for siblings and adults, even grandma.

The families began arriving and I began to notice that many of them were wearing brand new designer coats—nicer than my family’s coats, which were a number of years old. I felt angry. Here my family was passing out new winter coats while dressed in old coats to people who evidently could afford to buy new designer coats every year. These “poor” people nevertheless took the brand new coats along with the scarves and gloves, often grimacing with disappointment that they weren’t designer brands.

It was the last time we volunteered to help out.

I also provide therapy to toddlers with developmental delays in their homes each week. I have worked with a lot of impoverished families through the years who live in the worst apartment complexes. I have never seen one of these families who didn’t have brand new designer clothes, a giant 72” flat screen TV, every cable channel known to man, internet, brand new iPhones—even the toddlers had their own phones-tablets, etc. The adults and kids were always decked out in the latest sport star tennis shoes, even the babies.

The kids would make fun of my older generation phone and the parent would ask why I didn’t go buy a new one. I explained that in my family we saved our money and made do, so we could pay for our home, help our kids with college, put some money aside for retirement, pay our bills, and take a vacation once in a while. They just laughed. Our tax dollars at work. Now get out there and work a second job. The poor need more free things.

I just cut out all “charities” as the middlemen they are and give directly to those whom I personally deem needy.

  • Gordon Scott July 18, 2020, 8:36 AM

Anonymous, you’re pretty spot on. There are some families that struggle, and I welcome them as neighbors. I’ll help out where I can, carefully. I watch the Mexican family across the street. Every year their house gets nicer and nicer as they upgrade and landscape and build playgrounds and a garage. The patriarch, a nice old guy, is always out front shoveling *the street* clear of snow, or wielding a blower in each hand to get the leaves out of the street gutters.

Our front yard vegetable garden gets us an interesting amount of respect. We get lots of folks stopping to complement us. I am always amazed when a black grandma stops by, looking at my wood frames that hold the strings my tomatoes climb. She tells me she will tell her son to come by, so he can build her some like mine.

Now she’s forgotten about ten times as much as I will ever know about growing tomatoes. And those frames were just cobbled together out of the lumber I had on hand. Still, I am fully amazed every year that the youth have not gone after the tomatoes for mock street battles. Gardens are respected, I guess.

Very little in life causes me to worry and the well being of blacks is buried somewhere in the footnotes of my ‘don’t worry about it’ list. There are ba-jillions of them on welfare and other rolls and multiple generations of these essentially useless parasites have been carried from the cradle to the grave by the white tax payor who gets nothing for his dollar. They are a parasitic tax and I wonder what our tax rates might be and where the US economy would be, were we not burdened by these non-deductible dependents but other problems loom larger.

When the US government runs out of money (and I believe that we are very close to that day) I am curious to know what programs will be curtailed or shut down completely. Will welfare allowances and other State and Federal programs for our parasites be hit or will the Fed hammer the Social Security and Medicare programs?

  • ghostsniper July 18, 2020, 11:19 AM

Jack sed: “They are a parasitic tax…”
    ======
Jack, you ignorant slut. ALL taxes are parasitic. I don’t care what the thief does with the stuff he steals from me, only that he does steal it.

Then he asked rhetorically: “I wonder what our tax rates might be…”
    ======
Somebody hasn’t been paying attention. The amount the gov’t steals from you is not based on need but rather want. IOW, if every current welfare recipient were to drop stone cold dead right now your tax obligation would not change at all.

Then he wondered: “When the US government runs out of money (and I believe that we are very close to that day)…”
    ========
The gov’t has not had any money since the day it was born except what it has stolen from other.
It creates no wealth of it’s own, though it could, but steals everything it ever possessed. And that isn’t enough by way of it’s $200,000 trillion dollar debt. Long form: $200,000,000,000,000,000.00.
That number is more than the value of everything on the planet and it will never be payed back. When this thing crashes it will create a crater that will consume 80% of everything on the planet.

One time a few years ago I had the idea that I would help out at the local food pantry. Well, it was staffed by all whites women, suburban, chubby, older, karenish. On my first day I realized 90% of the clients who came for the freebies were black. So I says to myself “come on look past what they look like”. So a black guy walks in and loads up his two carts and I help him to his car, which is part of the service. What is he driving? A white lexus with gold trim, spotless. I help him load it in his trunk and he drives off. I didn’t even finish the day, left right after that, never to return. Every night here in Chicago we get to see ghetto moms crying about their dead kids caused by racism. But the food pantry is gifted by whites and white companies, are they racist too. So I have come to have nothing but contempt for blacks bordering on total indifference to their deaths.

A few years ago in Denver, I took the exit to my hotel and was about the third car back from the stop light at the bottom of the ramp. There was a guy at the bottom, standing by his back pack and holding a “homeless anything helps” sign.

Before the light could change, a van pulled up in front of him on the cross street, the side door slid open and another guy got out. He dropped his back pack next to the first guy’s back pack and they exchanged the sign. The first guy grabbed his back pack and got on the van, which was full of people, and the van left.

    Shift change.

    Jack,
Gubmint raiding Social Security and Medicare to support more welfare programs? No, those are working off IOUs or deficit spending already. Take it from pensions, state and private? Many of those are underfunded also. My concern is that 401K accounts from folks that have saved their entire working life are going to get an extra tax or clawback. You paid your house off so you could retire? Nice, well your property tax just went up sky high for the common good, you racist and rich POS.

Ghost mentioned it sometime prior, but think about what is likely to happen when the EBT cards don’t get recharged with money and are worthless at the grocery store. We have already seen the reluctance of the local governments to stop mobs of rioters. It is going to get fugly.
