Welcome to Kipling's World.
N.B.: My little bro, an army officer, has used the phrase 'Kipling's World' to describe things - pirates and frigates, borders on paper that really ain't borders, the bloody wars of peace - and he has gotten reactions from his fellows. It seems a lot of the military knows Kipling, starting with "Tommy", and going on.

An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!
The R.A. knows 'Tommy'; the saviour to be praised, the dog to be beat. It is a wonder that 'Tommys' keep stepping up. When they cease to do so, then it is truly over.
