"The message is clear: You had six air bases, Now you have five. Do you care to try for four? Or fewer?"

Apparently all 50 Tomahawks struck home. Assuming that to be true, several deductions are possible.
First, those are slow missiles. Top speed, about 500 miles per hour. They are very accurate, but they are slow. They were in the air for at least half an hour. They went past areas defended by Russian missiles of SA-6 and newer, any of them capable of shooting down a slow cruise missile like a Tomahawk. It is unlikely that the fleet of 50 Tomahawks, fired in a time on target pattern, were not observed; but so far as I know, not one was intercepted.

Second, the attack was limited to a single military installation which was presumed to be the base from which the chemical attack on the Syrian civilians including children. While limited to that base area, the attack was massive: over fifty Tomahawk missiles, each carrying 1,000 pounds of high explosives, in a time on target attack by highly accurate missiles fired from ships who we may assume took a carefully controlled course during launch. We may assume the base was entirely destroyed. - - Chaos Manor

Your Say

At $1.2mil a piece.....it's good to be king.

Aren't there bazillions of more important issues right here in the US that require address, that are negatively affecting the lives of millions of citizens, than dalliances in distant lands that have zero benefit to the citizenry?

Didn't take trump long to fit himself into the politicians mold did it?

Maybe the comm-progz were right.....

Or to put it another way, from over at WRSA:

Trump is blamed for the deaths of 50 Americans, for whatever reason, and Assad decides to launch 60 missiles on an American air force base to punish the US for (so called) crimes against humanity. Would we be outraged or what?

Who in the fuck are we? Karma’s gonna’ get us, one way or another, sooner or later.

Gee, ghost, you think he did it on a whim?

Pertinent to the OP, quoting Jerry Pournelle, "First, those are slow missiles. Top speed, about 500 miles per hour. They are very accurate, but they are slow. They were in the air for at least half an hour. They went past areas defended by Russian missiles of SA-6 and newer, any of them capable of shooting down a slow cruise missile like a Tomahawk. So what is Jerry saying here? That Putin told his guys to simply let the attack go through unabated? That is interesting.

Scott Adams has an interesting take on this: http://blog.dilbert.com/post/159300836386/the-syrian-air-base-attack

Actually, the base was not destroyed ... the lack of damage is so obvious. That's what you do when you get fake intel on a poison gas attack, you fake a retaliatory attack. Smoke and mirrors, kids!

Trump is doing multivariable calculus while the rest of you people are still trying to figure out how to do addition with those fat pencils in your stubby little fingers.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that he pulled off the attack while sitting across the table from the Chinese President.

That, my friends, is what you call "The Art of the Deal".

My 1st reaction was WTF,followed by anger, then feelings of betrayal. Reading thru the day after info, including DailyMail pics of the aftermath,I'm going to jump into the boiling cauldron. Yes,PDJT may be listening to Jared&Ivanka and their sadzness over the Children! He may also be listening to his Generals. Not the perfumed peacocks of O's admin. This was an opportunity to send the most phallic of symbols,60 of 'em,right up Assad's tailpipe. This is imagery that is HUGE in the Arab world. Not only that, but watching Nikki Haley taking on the sputtering Syrian mook at the UN today...she has some serious LadyNutz. Do not think this is some neocon takeover of PDJT,he's rich, but still a DirtPeople. This was also a bowshot across one former POTUS,gheyly writing his memoirs in French Polynesia.

ghostsniper, I pretty much never agree with Michael Savage, but I do think he's on to something here.

If there is anything that bomb-damage assessment has taught us since 1943, it is that air raids render only temporary destruction. Trump launched an extremely limited strike that can have, if Assad decides, short-duration effects on the operation of the airfield.

If he so decides, he can answer, "The message is clear: I had six air bases, then I had five. In a couple of weeks or so, I'll have six again."

And the rebuild will be much more hardened since the Russians will see to that.

From the comments section under Sensing's link above:

"But how do you demonstrate of our military strength and our willingness to use it to China or Russia without starting a world war?"

==============================

See it?

Does not the mere presence of a military automatically convey the willingness to use it?

To some it seems, not.

What other purpose does a military have?

Bring it down to the individual level.
A person carrying a concealed firearm is willing to use it, right?

But according to the bankrupt thinking above simply having the firearm is not enough, the gunner must also do other things to convey their willingness to use said firearm.

Other things such as pulling said firearm and shooting a couple shots across the bow, for example. Maybe even shoot a couple innocent bystanders to let everyone know he's serious.

If you're packing and sitting in an eatery and another gunner comes in and decides to show everybody he's serious about dispatching ne'er do wells so he yanks his heater and starts shooting, is that not an open invitation for someone else to blow his head clean off?

One does not have a "little" grace. You either have grace or you do not.

People that see grace in this hillbilly extravaganza are lacking in grace themselves.

TR said it best: "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

He didn't say to go around the planet arbitrarily whacking people with it.

Keep it where it belongs until such time that it is required and when it is used do so with authority, method, and complete.

If he so decides, he can answer, "The message is clear: I had six air bases, then I had five. In a couple of weeks or so, I'll have six again."

Yes he does in the sense that he has patched the holes in the runways and repaired a few hangars. But without the planes and all the equipment to service them, he has nothing. And I don't see him getting new planes any time soon.

The more important point has been driven home. Gas your people and you will pay. Next time it will be two airfields and a fuel depot. Third time, presidential palace.

Apparently this is a signal that the negotiations between Trump and the Deep State are over and he agreed to war.
