Bill Nye, The Not-A-Scientist Guy

1mkou1-1080x675.jpg

While Nye is an old white man, he is not a scientist.
He has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University, and worked at Boeing in the mechanical engineering department. His entry into TV was not because of any science expertise but because he won a Steve Martin look-alike contest and began moonlight as a stand-up comic by night. Eventually he quit Boeing and became a comedy writer and performer on a sketch comedy television show in Seattle, Washington, called Almost Live! The host of the show, Ross Shafer, suggested he do some scientific demonstrations in a six-minute segment, and take on the nickname “The Science Guy”. That’s right the Science Guy persona began in a comedy sketch and now he’s joke. I Anti-Trump "March For Science" Protest Has Problems W/ Bill Nye Because He's A White Guy

Your Say

Our son used to watch this guy on the toob 30+ years ago and I thought he was a nitwit then. Nye never grew up, but thought he could shove adults around.

Look at the anger in his eyes. He wants to cut you deep and shit in your neck and cackle like Manson the whole time.

A clever person should gift him a loaded .38 from the pawn shop.

Just another Leftist fraud.

So, how much longer will it be until we start seeing the "No white people or dogs allowed" signs? I believe some university student groups are already making that demand.

Yeah I remember him on that show. Pffft.

"He's an engineer, not a scientist." What is this, an episode of Big Bang Theory?

No, the problem is not his credentials, it's that he is making unproven theories sound like holy writ, and the credential argument won't hold against people with the "right" degree espousing the same bullshit.

Since the "I'm an expert so you should do what I tell you" is the essence of most Climate Change, nee Anthropological Global Warming, arguments, taking up credentialism as a weapon is a losing proposition.

Yes, I have a MS in engineering, and I'm convinced the the whole CC thing is mistake that got turned into a scam. I have enough experience with computer simulations to be well aware of how inadequate their models are, and enough math to recognise nonsense disguised with del operators.

Besides, as an engineer, I don't care how pretty a theory is, it's just mental masturbation if it has no predictive power, and all of the chicken little predictions have been not just wrong, but spectacularly so.

So, now tell me that I'm "just an engineer" so I can't possibly know what I'm talking about. You won't be the first (and most of them never got through high school algebra, either). :-)
