Cooking for Him [Bumped]

What interests me more is that its men who seem to be doing most of the cooking.
Recent research actually showed that men like cooking more than women; probably because it appeals to the male tendency to like goal-oriented tasks and building. But its also possible that a generation of women raised to think any traditionally female role is demeaning, oppressive, and inferior have been trained to think of cooking as bad. A generation? Any girls born since 1960 hit puberty getting taught they were victims. Can't none of 'em cook worth a damn, and California girls are the worst.

It's simpler than that, I don't do dishes, so I would rather cook.

We eat 1 meal per day and I always prepare it, for the past 30 years. Thurs is "Nothing But Fruit Day".

I can cook up a storm. What I didn't know before, Vietnam improv taught me. But my wife is a better cook and loves it, so she does it. I've done dishes ever since the last kids left home 30 years ago. She can't stand the after dinner mess, so she skedaddles, and I'm rewarded with some quiet time.

My brother is a better cook than I, and we had the exact traditional upbringing, since we're only two years apart.

So, I'm reminded of Madeline Kahn's line from Young Frankenstein: "Excuse me darling. What is it exactly that you do do?"

Men are not cooking more than women yet, although they are closing the gap.

It's possible women like cooking less than men because it's a daily chore for many of them. Something done daily of necessity and under time constraints can cease to be a joy.

It's also possible women enjoy cooking less than men because they do more of it, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Well kids, I have been cooking starting sometime in the 60s until now and I am tired of it.
I notice some of the young kids my grandkid's ages are interested in making food. Its a thing. Like an arcane art of some kind.

Cooking is relaxing. I live alone so I have to get my own grub.

Cooking food you want to eat is as simple or complex as you want to make it. Much prefer to cook my own.Tastes better. My hands are clean and everything is prepared by me.Don't make the time to grow my own ingredients, nor grind, butcher etc,but I appreciate the people who provide them for me. A can of beans on a camping trip is great, but a simple pot of Anasazi beans I cook myself at home is real food. With a large, sizzling, steak. Rare.

Plus, we're just better at it.

I disagree. Just as "there are more stupid men than women but many more genius level men than women"...so there are more male bad cooks than female bad cooks but many more genius level male chefs than female.

It's a generalization but through my life I've always met more men that know what they want to eat than women. What I mean is that not only do men know what they want to eat but they know how it should taste too.

Don't agree? Take your lady to a new restaurant and look at the menu. Men will know want they want to eat in about 5 minutes and women can't make up their minds.

My parents were both born in '22 and mom did almost all of the cooking. She was good. When mom couldn't cook, dad did. He was bad. I've been married for 33 years and I do over 90% of the cooking. I'm very good, started experimenting when I was 7.

Dad taught me how to sew. He was in the Air Force for 32 years and believed a man should be self sufficient.(still he was a bad cook but never complained)

Speller, we have something in common, it starts with a 3, and ends with one too.

I know what I want to eat BEFORE I go in the facility. My wife almost always gets a chicken quesadilla. If they don't have that she'll tolerate a burger. Like tomorrow when we go to Montana Mikes for my retirement party and she'll wolf down that giant 1/2 lb BBQ slathered onion ring ensconced monstrosity. It's something to behold, when that 100lb gurl skarfs down 1/4 her body weight at a single sitting, then moans for the rest of the day, and refuses to eat for 3 more. heh
