We are already in an actual, not analogous, civil war now,

by which I refer to Clausewitz's dictum that war, to be war, requires two thing:
1. Opposing forces that are trained and armed with weapons of war, or between one force so armed and another that is not, and 2. Killing. "Without killing there is no war."
Well, we've got both going on now, although thankfully, the killing is very low. For now.
See:"America's low-intensity civil war" "January 20: "Fort Sumter Friday"
Marco Rubio said the other day, "I don't know of a civilization in the history of the world that's been able to solve its problems when half the people in a country absolutely hate the other half of the people in that country."
I have tried to be a serious student of American history, and what I hear and see today seems frighteningly similar to the national polity of the 1850s. That did not end well. And the outlook is dim since secession is breaking out all over. - - - Don Sensing on This is an actual civil war.

Your Say

Feels a bit more like Vietnam, than the US Civil War. I say this because the enemy is not neatly bulwarked away across state borders, but is all around us and in many ways the govt. is a force majeure.

The court's almost coup d'état in stealing the president's authority on immigration makes me see red. What began in San Bernadino, when we all realized that the war had come home, is now being reinforced at the judicial, and bureaucratic, level. How's that feel? Like Vietnam, to me. Everyone above platoon level is conspired to get you killed, and the best move is to keep your head down, and the rust out of your barrel.

No, this is not civil war. Don't fall for that. The leftist establishment and media would love for you to believe that, and it's just not true.

We won the election. We vanquished them. End of story.

This current outburst of emotional incontinence is the 'gnashing of teeth' and 'wailing of women' most of us were expecting. We just didn't realize that so many corrupt Establishment interests had so much to lose by giving us back our Constitutional rights, or that so many men on the Left really identify as women.

Between the exsanguanated media, the castrati in Congress, and the thrashing, severed tentacles of George Soros, the Left is trying to create an illusion of being more powerful than it really is---like a Frilled lizard puffing itself up to look more imposing when under attact. Bear in mind that it's only an illusion. If any of these Marxist morons set foot out of the few counties they represent, they'd find themselves standing virtually alone. Most Americans love their country, their culture, their personal autonomy, their prosperity, and their enlightened body of law. Remember, we won 95% of America's counties, probably more, less the fraud.

The Leftist establishment is mortally wounded, almost out of ammunition, pinned down by the SWAT team, and has set the building on fire. In order to stop them from hosing accelerant on it, and fanning the flames until it devours every house in the neighborhood, we must continue to hold fast to our confidence in our vote, stand up for President Trump, and absolutely ignore the media---pretend they're your three year-old having a tantrum, and don't be afraid to let them turn blue, or purple---or croak. They can no longer win the day, as in the past, by being the loudest---or only---voice in the room. We repudiated them in November. We rejected them. We showed them the door. We gave them the heave-ho, the hook. We prevailed despite decades of their irrational plans, their machinations, their deceiving narratives, their villainies, their repeated lies, and the corrupting power of their dirty, dirty money.

We won the election, remember? We won. Keep you shoulder against the door and hold tight. We won, we expelled them, we left the imprint of our boot up their ass, and we don't ever have to give them the power to brainwash us again. We can once more be free Americans in a free America.

This is certainly an ugly episode, but it is one that will, over time, come to an end. It will take a lot of courage and work on our parts, but it will come to an end.

ahem, I hope you are right. I fervently wish for it. But I think you are suffering from what the Imperial Japanese Navy self-described after Midway as "victory disease."

"We won the election. We vanquished them. End of story."

Sir, that is simply not facing facts. In what way is the Left "vanquished?" They have confirmed the president's nominees at the lowest pace in the history of the republic. Their judges have set aside Trump's executive order on the basis of the judges' personal political convictions, totally ignoring the Constitution and the law.

Colleges and universities, already deeply indoctrinating students in way-Left Marxism and contempt for the country, have only redoubled their efforts.

The commercial media, with rare exceptions, have even more stoutly become what Glenn Reynolds calls, "Democrat operatives with bylines."

You wrote, "The Leftist establishment is mortally wounded... ."

If there is anything that history teaches, it is that it is impossible to kill the Leftist beast. Jefferson knew it, which is why he wrote that "Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom," although the Left as we know it now had not formed in his day. Yet his counsel remains.

Here is a peek from my draft of an upcoming post about this:

Understand that demands from destructive persons cannot ever be satisfied. For their real goal is not an actual solution to the putative issue, for as the old SDS slogan explains, "This issue isn't the issue." The real goal, very cleverly concealed behind aggrieved tones of voice and claims of how moral/spiritual/right minded/self-denying/unselfish (the list goes on an on) they are is always the same: "I must get my way, all the time."

But that's not the heart of the issue, either. These persons simply must have an enemy, someone or some group who opposes them. For the "my way" that destructors must get is inextricably linked to triumph over an opponent. That's why anyone who does not agree or assent to their demands is a target: the issue is not the demands, but the opposition.

Every issue is personal for destructors. It is not possible to hold a reasonable, contrary position. To resist a destructor's demand is not mere disagreement. It is to oppose the ordering of the world itself in some sense.

"The issue isn't the issue." Demands are only a pretense to evoke the fight. The fight itself is the goal. It is the only goal. Destructors never consider any issue closed for which they do not achieve total victory. They die in every ditch. Every fight is to the death because their very concept of self is woven into it.

They will never stop. Leftism -- which I often refer to as totalism, is the Terminator enemy of freedom and liberty. And I both fear and am certain that they have only just begin to hit us.

Below is my very slight edit of part of Lincoln's famous "house divided" speech. He was, btw, referring not to the US House of Representatives (though it really was divided over slavery), but was referencing Matthew 12.22-28.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half Marxist and half Jeffersonian. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved—I do not expect the house to fall—but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other. Either the opponents of Leftist tryranny, will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward, till it shall become alike common in all the states, across all the country. Have we no tendency to the latter condition? Let any one who doubts, carefully contemplate that now almost complete legal combination— piece of machinery so to speak—compounded of the Ninth Circuit's judges overturning, for no stated reason but their own personal preferences, the power that the Constitution and longstanding public law have delegated expressly to the chief executive.

The world would be a safer place.

Casey, you make an excellent point. But the Vietnam war was a civil war, nonetheless.

I didn't say the Left was mortally wounded; I said 'The Leftist establishment is mortally wounded...' (I should probably have said 'The Leftist _establishment in the US_ is mortally wounded.')

Of course the Left will undoubtedly persist, but in a different, and--God willing--much-diminished capacity. Perhaps it will go back to existing as an obvious aberrant philosophy, as it was in the 60s. Yes, even in the 60s it was viewed as a crackpot utopian ideal most naive young adults would outgrow. There are fashions in thought, and Leftism is fading out of fashion.

As for the regrettable actions of the 9th circuit; it ain't over til it's over. I would recommend you to an analysis at Conservative Treehouse, which has been on target for the last several months, 'Ninth Circuit Court Now Demands It Be Protected From Itself':

"Their judges have set aside Trump's executive order...", when they have no constitutional authority to do so.

Trump's congress, now, has the authority to impeach those judges.

Posted by: ghostsniper at February 11, 2017 9:26 AM

Donald Sensing, that is my understanding of the left also. Kind of demonic, isn't it?

Posted by: pbird at February 11, 2017 9:37 AM

ghostsniper wrote, "Trump's congress, now, has the authority to impeach those judges."

Well you are correct in fact but, really, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahha!

I am not laughing at you but at Congress.

In all American history, a mere 15 federal judges have been impeached, of whom eight were removed from office by the Senate.

No wonder Thomas Jefferson called Article II, Section 4, of the Constitution (which authorizes impeachment) a nothing but a "scarecrow" when it came to judges.

My take-away from last week is the incredible obtuseness of liberal bench-warmers. I'm seeing red at my grandstanding governor and state AG, but the courts are the 3 year-old bawling form of tyrants I have now met and deeply despise. The effect on me is to gun up, because there is a class of government and NonGov Entity that are hellbent on seeing terrorists in our communities.

I'm not being whiny or alarmist. I am gathering intell.

Elsewhere, I wrote:

I'd like to ask Gov Inslee and the courts for a list of foreigners that POTUS cannot ban from immigrating or seeking refugee status in America. Of course, they can't do this, because the president can stop any class of person or group from our borders. In arguments concerning specific types of immigrants/refugees denied entry, all of these can be shown in history to have been successfully banned. Game. Point. What will the grandstanding governor and judges say when they are overturned at SCOTUS?

Don, what I hope you & I can avoid is any of the Vietnam Syndrome that plagued the military and the country in the 70-80s. For those who don't know what VS is, just take a look at Ron Paul. He's riddled with the whole cancer of VS. He must've caught it while doctoring fallen soldiers in the war.

So, Don, your writings here are brilliant, but I must protest the Vietnam as civil war argument. In the context of global communist expansion, the civil war part was beneath our level of vision. The VC did not take Saigon, as you'll recall.

ahem also writes very well @ our potential alarmism and the smoke screen of the Left. Understood, sir.

Where we are now. How will the courts balance against Trump's agenda in the near future? Will POTUS actually rewrite his EOs to side-slip the court's invectives?

Congress, as Don says, has been the tits on the bull to us for as long as good memory recalls. Just because it has become a GOP majority, is no guarantee of anything other than exasperation for us. Back to Vietnam: that night op where half of your Mike Force is suddenly grafted on from another unit. There is no SOP, and no operational integrity. Night falls inky black, and you form a perimeter on your bellies....

I understand, DS, and I laugh too.
But there has never been a *Trump* before.
He's used to getting stuff done, no matter what.
We'll see.

I'll suggest that the mere threat of impeachment will have the crybaby judges soiling their diapers.

BTW, do you think Trump has a *dossier* on each of the congress critters?

Posted by: ghostsniper at February 11, 2017 2:41 PM

"In all American history, a mere 15 federal judges have been impeached..."

The judge in Washington is exceptionally deserving of being the 16th. To encourage the others to respect the Constitution.
