Your Say

Is there some gateway to Hell in Chicago? Seems to be a toilet bowl of grotesqueries, for some time now.

Yes, and it's on the 5th floor of City Hall.

I don't like the thugs but the thugs like me.
Hat tip to MM.

Funny, but all the guys in the picture shooting the Thompson's were left handed.

That pic may be reversed. Notice the "feather" in the hat, it's always on the left side.

If he were to fire that weapon while holding it that way, I guarantee you it would be the last time he ever does it.

Ghost,
Your wisdom is always timely. I should have realized the photo was reversed....

David,
You are absolutely right! I work at a gun range and we commonly see newbies shooting an autoloader right handed with their left thumb perilously over the back of their right hand. When the slide recoils into and across the top of the skin on the left thumb, we call those "railroad tracks". We have band-aids ready for such situations. Most shooters appreciate our pointers, but some do not listen. One gentleman of older persuasion was about to cut himself when I politely tapped him on the shoulder and suggested a different two-handed grip. He dressed me down, advising me that he was a 20 year Air Force Veteran and did NOT need the advice of a whippersnapper (I am 50+). I watched as he pulled the trigger and proceeded to peel a large chunk of skin off the top of his left thumb. My giggle became uncontrollable and I had to have someone relieve me from the line

The other semi-common blood letter is the case of "Ol' Scope Eye". We have a 100 yard indoor rifle range here in Wichita. It is not good when someone looks too close into a scope then yanks the trigger on a 7MAG, 30-06 or other high power cartridge. The ocular of a scope can cut you deep!

@Snake/David, I embarrassingly have to admit to doing that long ago, with a small automatic. .32 Iver Johnson. My right hand was placed properly (I'm right handed) but my left thumb was wrapped up and over the right thumb. The railroad track pain was severe enough (I guess because the gun was so small the trenches were very deep) that I almost dropped the gun. Obviously shooting was terminated for the day and a valuable lesson was learned.

They ain't toys, though hollywood would like you to think so.
