Doubtful that thing is inside, most likely on the other side and you're experiencing an optical illusion. We have several "squirrel resistant" feeders like that. The lid is such that it is slid up the wire to install more seeds. It has to be lifted by 2 sides at the same time. The hole in the top is only slightly bigger than the wire and if it's lifted at one side it will bind and resist moving further. IOW, I'd be surprised if a squirrel actually lifted it and got into it.
What they normally do is get on one side and rock it back and forth and since the thing is gravity fed, as they eat the seeds in the hopper more seeds will fill it as the thing rocks back and forth.
That is one of the better feeders of that type as it has metal hoppers and the squirrels can't chew thru them. We had one that was green plastic in those areas and it didn't hold up too well.
We keep our squirrels fat (tasty) and lazy (easy) cause they may come in handy in the future.
