Call it Information Laundering:

Each step along the way, the dirty, unverifiable information is cleaned up just slightly enough to get the next laundromat in line to pretend to clean it up just a little bit more. Easy-peasy: If you can't verify the story itself, report the rumors of the story -- see, the part that this is "rumored" is verifiable. If you've heard it, it is, inarguably, a rumor that's going around. So just shift the narrative frame of the story from "These are the facts" to "The fact is, people are spreading this rumor, which is very important, if true." Always throw that rhetorical hedge in there: if true. You can add a smiley-face-wink emoji to indicate "And man, you better believe this is true, baby!!!" Ace of Spades HQ

Your Say

Marketing, marketing, MARKETING!!!
All the time, right up in your grill.

Thing is, there just ain't that much "news" going on out there and never was. Marketing has made it *seem* like there's enough news to keep a dozen news services online all the time. There ain't, so they pretend.

Is an amber alert over a wayward teen in Tulsa news to me? Of course not, so why is it scrolling across the top of my TV screen?

A possible ice storm might happen in the near future so 1/3 of my TV real estate is sacrificed and Alex Trebek be dammed.

The world of *fake* news is vast, probably 90% or more of todays news is of the fake variety, and the varieties span the spectrum.

For the most part I instinctively started migrating away from the new about 20 years ago because most of what they were showing was irrelevant to me, and the rest was questionable in it's truthfulness.

Anonymous sources, allegations, etc., just bore me. Facts with no, well, facts. A lie of omission is still a lie. Maybe people are getting tired of all the hype, specially the fake shit. How long can you put up with a whiny brat in your face screaming?

They killed themselves. They require me to be their victim, but instead I am their tourniquet.

Release the pressure, let em go.

Unfortunately out of print, but I highly recommend Mute Evidence to see how this sort of thing works. It's pre-Internet so the investigative journalists involved had to work hard to track the transmission chains and info laundering. But brilliantly researched and helps you the understand the psychology and techniques behind this stuff.

Of course, Greenwald is one to talk about fake anything. Ask his good friends Rick Ellensburg and or Thomas Ellers...oh wait, never mind.
